I gave this company over 4,000 in business since 2024 with two major jobs. I'm due for a small claims court case in May, 2026 and I asked their manager if they could review the photos of the water damage they took and give me a rough estimate of how long the damage occurred. It might help my case. I gave them two weeks and three phone calls for them to get back to me and they never did. Although they did a decent job, their estimates changed three times over the course of the last job, causing confusion. The short version: While the crew was nice, our experience with J. Brian Day was frustrating overall. Poor communication, surprise charges, and a lack of transparency made a stressful situation even worse. The long version: My partner and I's unit and another in our condo suffered water damage after an upstairs neighbor left their water running. Since our neighbor hired J. Brian Day Emergency Services for mitigation, we decided to use them as well. Unfortunately, we were assigned a different project manager, and the team began tearing down walls, not knowing our neighbor had similiar mitigation work completed. They knocked a ton of drywall into our neighbors kitchen and created an open gap between our unit and our neighbor's.Two months later, the wall is still torn down as we wait for insurance approvals. Looking back, we wouldn't have rushed the mitigation process if we hadn't felt pressured by our project manager. Yes, we signed a contract (in a hurry) and we've definitely learned from that mistake. If this ever happens to you, please read the contract thoroughly and ask questions. The crew doing the physical work was friendly and communicative, but communication from the project manager was lacking. I was also unhappy with how our belongings were packed. I reached into a box and almost cut myself on a knife that had been carelessly thrown in. Multiple glass cups were poorly packed as well. Weeks after the mitigation work was completed, a worker from J. Brian Day called from outside my condo saying he was there to pick up equipment. There was no equipment left behind, another example of poor communication. We were eventually sent an invoice and asked to pay, though we had expected our insurance to cover everything. We had to request a breakdown from J Brian Day, as one was not provided. We learned our insurance didn't cover "content manipulation." In other words, we were being charged for the packing service. If you're in a similar situation, I recommend packing your own boxes and confirming what's covered with both your insurance and the contractor. We were also charged a storage fee for damaged, unsalvageable cabinets that had been removed from our unit. We had to call and ask that they be disposed of and that the invoice be updated. I'm pretty sure this is the project managers job, not the customers. Finally, I was disappointed to find out there were no follow-up mold tests. With the walls still open, it would be simple to conduct a second test for peace of mind. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I understand that J. Brian Day is a business, but they need to be more transparent, communicative, and compassionate, especially when customers are going through an emergency, a vulnerable time. We tried to fight the charges but had no luck and ultimately had to scrap up money to pay J. Brian Day as they couldn't wait for subrogation. read more

They get one star for how quickly they responded to our phone call. Had a bathtub leak into our dining room and they were able to come out the next day. However, it took 2 weeks and constant emailing and phone calls (on our end) to get an estimate for the work they did and for future work. Outrageous doesn't even begin to describe their pricing. The prices were so outrageous, I'm wondering if this company is legit. Wanted to charge us 14K for a clean up of a 10 foot by 9 foot room and that DID NOT INCLUDE the rebuild. I was out of the state when my daughter called to tell me she had lots of water in her 2nd floor bathroom. A pipe ruptured and in a small amount of time, damage was done to first floor and basement. I contacted J Brian Day and they quickly dispatched Tim Gauvin, project manager within a few hours. The mitigation was robust! Set up containment/ protect contents/flooring. Remove affected materials: tile floor, carpet, drywall, baseboard and insulation. Set up equipment. Treat all affected areas with antimicrobial. Haul debris to off site dumpster. Tim was in contact with my daughter and I quite regularly. He was so calming, supportive, patient and really made us feel secure with the process. read more

Brian Day and a crew was at my house within an hour. Water mitigation and clean up was quick, the project manager Mark made me feel informed and comfortable with the process from clean up to the repair work. I was told it would be about three or four weeks till they could start repairs as an estimate would need to be sent to my insurance company. Once the crew left after clean up I was prepared to wait a few weeks for estimate and insurance to square itself up, well about 4 weeks had passed and I never heard from Mark on the estimate, Heck I even saw Mark the project manager at a local store and he told me he had the estimate ready and would send it me, it never arrived, and I gave it two weeks. after numerous calls to the company I finally l spoke with the owner himself. he promptly came out the next day and gave me an estimate. Well that accomplished nothing. Initial date of loss was September 5th, I was left in the dark for MONTHS, told from the start it would be 4 weeks and its been THREE months. Well thankfully I had a contractor over for a separate issue on December 11th and informed him about my basement during small talk. He immediately gave me a quote and started the following Monday. The only reason I gave two stars and not one is because the crew was out first thing after I called. But I wouldn't expect anything after that unless your job is going to be six figures to repair. The project manager that responded told me how they performed high six figured claims and while mine was estimated to be roughly $10k, apparently they wont give me the time of day. If you call them for issues, don't expect to hear from them after the clean up unless you live in a million dollar house. * My wife and I also called the company this past Monday and spoke to a representative explaining that we found someone else because of their lack of response despite SO MANY ATTEMPTS BY US and what awful service we received, we were told the owner would call us back to apologize (shocker, he never did) and that largely contributed to the need to write this review. I called J Brian Day fora water leak that did damage to my home. 4 men showed up, one spoke broken English and they stood for over an hour waiting for boss to show up to tell them what to do. They did their thing, left machines running g to dry place out. I had to call to get billy fans and barrels removed. Their bill submitted to insurance was outrageously high. Once regular adjuster came in it was much less. When inquiring about an estimate to help rebuild, I got an estimate with no costs on it and it was extremely high. Great news they showed up and ripped a hole in my ceiling and set up a humidifier for three days Then came and removed the humidifiers and told me that they would be bCk to repair the 8x4 hole in my ceiling and wall . When you have emergency service you just want someone to help and take over and clean up the mess with little hassle to you. These guys did that. I was happy with the result of the work. Weird neg review. Yes, its expensive when a pipe breaks in your basement and someone has to be there right away and stay all night to fix it. Seriously people get over yourselves. I had a major basement flood with water pouring in in just 15 minutes at 7pm at night. I immediately called J Brian Day and they had their operations manager Mark call me and dispatch trucks to begin removing the water. They arrived within 45 mins of the water coming in and they ran two trucks to pump out the basement and drying the carpet with 4 commercial dehumidifiers and 15-20 blowers. The next day Mark sent in his team of 4 guys to move all my belongings, raise them up and steam clean and treat for bacteria in the entire basement. They were top notch workers and took great care and pride in their work. They had the entire place dry in 48 hours and there is no smell at all. A couple days later Mark stopped by to follow up and ensure all the work was completed and I was satisfied. I am extremely happy with their service and would definitely recommend J Brian Day again. Total A-holes. I wish I could give Zero stars. Had mold in a dryer vent soffit, discovered while trying to upgrade the dryer vent. Dryer vent company recommended this company and I called them immediately on the same day which was a Saturday, was put in touch with the owner John who said since I didn't have an active leak it wasn't emergency and he would be here between 9-11 Monday. Monday after 11:30 called got a very nice woman who apologized profusely, put me on hold to speak to the owner, who it seems forgot but was on his way! Hour and 1/2 later called to to tell me he was going to 'pass' on the job. Never saw the job, but based on my location he was going to pass. He said there was no place to park. Well in the immediate there were 2 spots in front of my condo, so you're a liar telling me that you are at my office and there is no place to park and yes we are in the city but you knew that Saturday when you took the job. So I'd say thanks for nothing because that's what they did but really thanks for wasting my time and pushing my project back, because that's what people need when they are dealing with a stressful situation... an entirely self absorbed unprofessional idiot who happens to be in charge of the company..... keep looking for another company!! read more

Our water heater blow 12/28/2015. We called J Brian Day immediately. Greg the Project Manager came out within the hour and assessed the damages and was able to get someone out the next day. The next day!! Not only was his crew professional and polite but very quick. All within hours my carpet was removed, fans installed and wall removed. We ran into a small snag with J Brian and the carpet with a manager whom was to call us. I was the one calling and hounding them, but after a few attempts the owner got involved Not only was John awesome he did what he could as an owner to still keep us happy and the ball rolling. Now, what I do NOT blame them for is the insurance and condo association slowness on their ends. However, J Brian Day got involved as much as they could for us and helped speed up the process a little (better than ins and condo dragging feet). Remember, everyone is busy. Everyone has issues. We had our issues. Gave the necessary chances on the delay after the fact. Be professional about it without screaming or getting mad. I was going to get mad but when the owner got involved he realized the experience was great until the stop. He fixed it and was completed within a week. FIND SOMEONE ELSE! I'm an interior architect and this was a ridiculous process. My landlord hired these guys to fix a water leak that damaged the floor and wall of the apartment bedroom. And they were quick to get a contact signed with my landlord and rip the damaged areas out but VERY SLOW to replace it back to original condition. It took them 9 WEEKS to repair about 9' linear ft length of wall (about 4' high) and 8'x5' of floor. What dragged out was the floor but it took them 3 weeks to come up with a solution what to be placed, 2 weeks to give suggestion, 2 weeks to order the floor. Meanwhile they would tell us that there has been other urgent jobs that they have to take care of first due to weather and they couldn't come fix the room. You expect a team like this would plan ahead, and although some unexpected event like the weather may happen that cannot be used as an excuse for 3 plus weeks. This is a sign of BAD business management in my opinion. It felt like working with a 2 year old to get things done. NOT PLEASANT. They also tried to take advantage of the situation that my landlord was not in the state and able to come check on things. 1. They did not present my landlord with the right kind of options - first they tried to talk her into replacing the whole room (15' x 13') floor. Then they tried to tell her if she wants to only replace the damaged area it would have to be a different material (Vinyl, carpet or engineered wood - Original floor is parquet wood tile). ---- My landlord asked for my suggestion and I rejected these options since I was able to find parquet floor similar to the original floor online (homedepot) 2. Wall installation took 2 tries. The first time the guy did such a terrible job there were so many bumps! It took another week to fix this. 3. Workers would sometimes arrive later than the promised time (like 1-2hrs) - Traffic may play into this but at least call and let us know what the plan is. My roommate had to be late to work a couple of times. 4. Haven't heard any follow up. The floor installer finally came on week 9! Woohoo! Never Heard from Scott the PROJECT MANAGER to find out about how the job was done, nor did he come to check it out. 5. PROJECT MANAGER probably only came to the field twice during the 9 weeks. 1st time was to give estimation, 2nd was the first day of construction when they ripped everything out. All in all, I was not able to occupy my BEDROOM in a SHARED apartment from Jan 22 to April 29th. I had to stay at friends places. I did ask my landlord what the incentive for these contractors are to finish the job as fast as possible since she had already paid up most of the work before it was finished and she said she had nothing. Always review the contract and make sure you are holding something back from them that they need so they would actually do the JOB. read more

Stay away. Horrible service. I try to stay away from the "big guys" and this company is a perfect example. I don't think I've been so infuriated with a service company in a very long time. I was in the middle of a stressful home purchase and needed to get a mold assessment of the property. Black mold was uncovered during the home inspection and the home owners were too strapped for cash to resolve it themselves. I needed to get someone in to get a quote. The result of which would mean I would walk away or proceed. After calling several companies, I settled on J Brian Day. They seemed competent enough. Conveniently, they were the only ones available on short notice and assured me for a mere $149, they could come out and give me a quote. I scheduled the visit and I figured we were good to go. I even received a confirmation call from their project manager. They never showed up at the specified time. I called their office and I was told the Project Manager was in the area and should be there by 3:30. 3:45 rolls around and I call back. I'm told the guy will be there by 4. Now, we're an hour late and the home owner has returned. We told him we would be in and out by 4. I call back and I'm given a revised estimate of 4:45 because the PM is stuck in traffic... Who gets stuck in traffic for 2 hours? Not even close to any city? I informed them this is unacceptable and my agent has other appointments that he needs to keep. Well, needless to say, no one is happy. The home owner rescheduled his day. Apparently, for some idiotic reason, he took the day off and was becoming an ornery old coot. I had gone into work 2 hours early to take care of this. I was tired and cranky. My agent was stuck waiting for over an hour. He had re-arranged his schedule to meet us. And the best part? The home owners are really only available to let us into the house in the evening because they have a large dog that needs to be removed from the house. Try getting a mold inspection done after 6:30... Well, to my surprise, J Brian Day does evening inspections... but they charge $300 for said inspection instead of 150. And they were unwilling to budge of this extra charge, even after wasting all of our time. Stay away. These guys don't know the value of good customer service. I would have been more than happy to pay the 150 if they had been willing to bend their policies even a little bit. They even admitted it was their fault and were unwilling to help. read more

After being stood up by another grout cleaning company, J. Brian Day saved the day! I had just received the Val Pak mailer to my house the day after I'd booked service with another company. Luckily I put the J. Brian Day coupon in my handbag "just in case." When the other company (JS Carpet Cleaning -- see my review) blew me off, I called J. Brian Day and they were able to schedule me for the next day. I'm a landlord in between tenants with a short time window for getting this work done. The office staff who answers the phone could not be more polite and professional. They were able to accommodate the time schedule I needed, and when I had questions (for example, how long it would take for the floors to dry), when the receptionist was unsure she went and asked someone else rather than making up an answer. The morning that the work was scheduled they called to confirm the appt. Then, as promised, when the worker was on his way he called to say he'd be there within 30 minutes and then arrived on time. When there was a question about the coupon from the ValPak, I called the office and they resolved it immediately. We had the bathroom and kitchen grout cleaned in a below grade apartment, which can be mildew-prone. The technician did a very thorough job and the grout is a significant improvement. I could never have done this work myself. They specialize in mold and mildew mitigation, and the tech was very knowledgeable when we asked questions about another property. If we ever need to have this type of work done again, or for future grout cleaning (I don't have carpet or else I would hire them for that, too). read more

Would not recommend. Did show up as promised but only worked for a half day. Never saw anyone working my disaster for more than a half day. Things were done is a really weird order and the project manager was never on site at the same time as the workers. Got many conflicting reasons why things were being done. They are currently doing rebuilds now, got a bid from them to rebuild my home and answers to my questions are ridiculous. When moving my furniture they had in storage back into my home, they broke two pieces. Once they are going to fix, the only was not discovered until after they left and seeing that it is just a piece of particle board I will take the hit. I also had my 150 gallon fish tank take a walk, it was taken by a subcontractor they hired. I will never see that again and no reimbursement for that either. read more

A place to call for emergency service and left a message on there answering machine an hour and a half ago and still have not received a call. I got my carpets cleaned in June 2014. Overall, it was a fantastic service. The guy showed up on time, ready to work. The house was not ready to be cleaned so he helped clean up, no complaints! He did an amazing job on getting the carpets looking like new again. He was also very helpful and flexible in cleaning specific pieces of furniture and area rugs - all for an incredibly reasonable price. They are also very honest about their work. I had wanted my dining room chairs cleaned, but there was a chance that their equipment would damage the wood stain of the chairs. Rather than going ahead and working quickly to try and make an extra buck, the guy called me over and explained what he thought would happen and recommended that he not try to clean them - that I would get better overall results if they were cleaned by hand. I could not recommend them more highly. read more

I spent 3 months trying to get these guys to mitigate mold in my walls from ice dams over the winter. I got an insurance estimate and initial settlement and thought they were specialists in the kind of work I needed. They sent out an estimator who went all through the damage and I was initially impressed. As he left, he promised me he would have his estimate done by Friday, but if he "forgets" to get back to me to email him because he sometimes forgets to respond....red flag #1. So he forgot to get back to me...as promised. I email, I call repeatedly, no response. 4 weeks go by I get nothing. I finally get in touch with a woman who answers the phone and she apologized up and down, said she would have the guy get in touch with me ASAP, and she promised to call me back to confirm one way or the other...he never called, she never followed up. I finally respond to their general email on the web site saying I guess the job is beyond them or beneath them as no one will return my call. I get an email from John Day right away saying he was sorry I had such a bad experience and he wanted to come out and assess the damage himself, even after it has already been assessed and about 100 pictures taken. He says the pictures where fuzzy and he couldn't tell from them what the situation was. Fine, he comes the next morning and did again what the first guy did. He promised me he would get back to me and they would at least do the mitigation for the mold in the walls and hire a 3rd party contractor to button up the rest. I wait and hear nothing back. I email again and get a response from John Day (president of the company) "Hi Doug, I am waiting for a couple contractors to get back with me regarding an estimate for your home. Everyone has been very busy so please continue to follow up...". I must continue to contact them, they aren't willing to contact me proactively. 12 days later, I write back again asking where things are at, it has been 12 days and no one has responded. The response..."Good morning, I understand, I have not been able to find a contractor or sub that can get right on this, I apologize everyone is backed up. Do you have a contractor possibly? " Now I have to find a contractor to do the work. Seriously? They are too busy? Or is it that they just don't want to do the job, what is it?? I am closing in on 3 months of nothingness and the excuse is the same, everyone is backed up, we are too busy, blah blah blah. Maybe they are busy, but they have no concept of keeping the customer informed. All I can assume is they are not able to do the work, maybe it is beyond their abilities. If they don't want the work, say so! I could have started from scratch 3 months ago, but no, they string me along and so far have taken about 150 pictures, promised a 2 week response to mitigate the mold, but nothing has been done. Their resolution...me find a contractor to do the job. Don't waste your time with this company. I went with them because they were a big company. I assumed prompt response and to fix my home back to what it was prior to the damage. If you do go with these guys, good luck. Don't say you weren't warned. read more

We called J Brian day around 9 pm on a Saturday night when water was pouring into our basement through an egress window (in our home we had just purchased a week prior) They had someone at our house within 45 minutes and a clean up crew was there until the early morning hours to make sure we didn't end up with a mold problem. They checked in multiple times over the course of the week while they left their dehumidifiers and blowers running- and were extremely helpful. Hopefully I never have to use them again- but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to call! If I could give 10 stars, I would! I cannot say enough good things about these people! We had a flood from a pipe in the kitchen that caused serious damage to the house. A good portion of my house was destroyed, including my kitchen. We called them immediately, around 7am, they were here by 8 ready to work. They came in & cleaned, dried, tested everything! Once they knew what walls, floors, ceilings, etc were a loss, they tore everything down & moved all our furniture. Sure, there was a big bill, but that went right to the insurance company to pay...people shouldn't complain about the expense considering the amount of work they do. They tested for mold & did microbial preventatives. Naturally we are having a hard time with the insurance company but J. Brian Day has been working with us every day helping us deal with Commerce. The owner of the company came out himself & did moisture level readings. Every single person we've dealt with at J. Brian Day has been amazing. You don't see customer service like this anymore. And no, I do not work for them, nor do I have any personal relationship to any employee there. Awful company and owner. My wife and I are currently suing them for a mere $250 because their workers broke the lock on my door bringing a couch into the house after cleaning. Despite personal conversations and promises to pay for the lock, Mr. Day never did. Even after being sued in Concord District Court, he defaulted and a judgement is now entered against him. Save yourself A LOT of hassle and frustration and DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE. HORRIBLE. I will simply say this...unprofessional with a less than desirable outcome of the project. At first glance, looked promising with all of the prep work and anticipated clean up post-demo. First problem, crew showed up minus the "boss", Project Leader (whatever his official title is), who was expected to arrive with the crew, per the crew. We were told that they would be only inspecting areas for potential further water damage, not actually starting the project, as to work with the insurance company and finalize cost. But they just started tearing down ceilings and walls, again, without ANY SUPERVISION WHATSOEVER. Fine. At least it's getting done right? WRONG. When asked about replacing the drywall, patching, mudding, painting, etc, post-demo I suppose you could call him the team leader considering the actual boss failed to EVER show up, informs me that they do NOT do such work anymore because they're so busy with this past winter's damage and anyway, the crew who DID (does?) such "finish work" is currently and has been on a state job and they're not available. GREAT. In retrospect I should've halted the production at that point, but being confused as to this entire situation, I did not and they continued to rip and tear walls and ceilings down, exposing the interior of 2 bathrooms and a master bedroom to the outside air. To which I was told oh well, "open some windows" or "go to the beach!" when I objected due to the impending high heat and humidity that is forecasted for our area. We have a household FULL of allergy riddled people, including 4 young children. Opening windows at almost every time of the year, let alone in the middle of a completely obnoxious allergy season, is simply out of the question. This "team leader" did agree to cover the gaping holes and missing ceilings with plastic and tape. Awesome. Bet that doesn't leak much precious central A/C now does it? Now, had the real boss been there, he could've told me what we later find out is the truth and that is that they DO in fact, do finish work (timeframe to do such work though was unsure because the team who does that kind of work is currently unavailable). But he never showed up. He only offered that information later that day, via phone, AFTER they made all of these holes in the walls and ceilings. And that was only because he was called with complaints about the situation. I could go on and on...I was never called back when I called the "boss" to complain (and to cancel their return appointment to assess materials needed to do the "finish work" as we now have a competent and PROFESSIONAL contractor on the job). Please save yourself the time, hassle and aggravation and call someone else. Maybe they're great at carpet and upholstery cleaning (but I'll never know because we will NEVER call them again for ANYTHING), but not so great at this or establishing and maintaining even decent customer service. read more

When we had ice dam damage I called J Brian Day because I had a great experience with them twice in our new home,once to clean the carpets and the second time was to get mold off a couch in our finished cellar. On those two jobs I would give them a 10. On The ice damage,they sent an estimator on April 7th and my husband and I were so impressed. He told us to find alternate living arrangements so they could get in the house every room including the garage has damage. We looked into having a travel trailer in our driveway and since were told we could have one in a days time we waited.Thank God we did. After many phone they finally came while we were on vacation The fourth of July for one week and removed all the damage walls,ceiling and rugs in all the damaged rooms, I was told not to worry they would move the furniture and take care of everything. They did a decent job of being neat and moving the furniture, but there is a large gouge in my nightstand and my bedroom door from them moving stuff, my Macy bedspread is ruined as are my curtains that they just throw on the floor,I should not have listened and done it all myself I was gullible that for sure. . Well here we are seven weeks later and phone call after phone call and the promise that Mark will call us I am fed-up and ready to scream. I am sick of hearing we are too backed up we are to busy,then why did you take the job we could have gotten someone else. The winter is on the way and all my rafters are open.
