Stumbled upon this place on a pretty warm day in Santa Cruz, and wanted to give it a try. There were a few people in front of us, but it did not take too long for it to be our turn. I tried a scoop of strawberry and a scoop of their coconut flavor. It was very delicious and refreshing. They also have pizza on some days, but we were not able to try. Cute and locally-owned shop in downtown Santa Cruz. There are a number of Italian ice flavors and some coffee selections such as Affogato. Owner was helpful and shared the story of his father behind the name of his shop. We ordered a large that comes with up to 4 flavor scoops. The kids enjoyed the mango a d pineapple flavors. The affogato with a small scoop of salted caramel just didn't hit the mark with an underwhelming scoop of Italian ice that doesn't do the same as a scoop of traditional vanilla ice cream plus a disproportionate amount of bitter coffee. Prices are average. An okay spot if you need a cool treat and can't get to the local premium ice cream shop. read more

I tried their Italian ices at a food and wine event benefitting cancer research last year that they so graciously contributed towards. Their staff are SO friendly and they didn't mind when I came by to try a few samples of their ices. They actually prefer it so you truly figure out what you love and want to revisit! I just saw that they offer soft pretzels and pizzas now some days at their storefront and will update with pics once I get those days down! read more

Stopped by on a random stroll for a refreshing treat. The guy was rather weird and not very welcoming. He seemed bothered that we asked for samples. I'm sorry that I don't know which flavor of something I've never had I want? Anyway, finally ordered and asked for my two scoops to be put into a bigger cup because I personally don't want to have to finish one full scoop before getting to the next flavor. Didn't think it was a big deal but he made it seem as if I had asked for him to chop his hands off. The texture was nice but the flavor was whatever. The sample tasted stronger than the scoop I had in my cup. It just tasted like ice. read more

It's more like shaved ice than ice cream, and by the time I finished my small serving I was bored despite being an ice cream fiend. It was $4.50 for the smallest size. The service was good, and the reason for the second star. Prompt and helpful, though I would've appreciated the courtesy of some fake cleaning or something while I was making my decision. The ambiance was bleak, frankly. The white on white was full on hospital-minimalism. On top of that, there were a bunch of flies inside which is just a bit gross. A word to the wise: this pizza is only available two days a week and in limited quantities, so I highly recommend placing your order in advance to avoid missing out. The flavors here are amazing! Seriously. Try the Pina Colada. The sour apple and blueberry were also delicious. I'm a huge blueberry fan but never had blueberry sweets that I've ever enjoyed aside from pastries, so this place is doing something right. I'm already thinking of my second visit. And the owners are very nice people. Love to support small businesses. Skip the desserts at the grocery store and instead hit up places like Izzy's. If my parents decide to visit me for college, I'm taking my mom because she's a huge pina colada fan. Gotta try it! read more

Review has been long overdue for Izzy's. I've been a fan since day 1 when they opened. The amount of flavors they have for NY Italian Ice is incredible. So if your an East Coaster your probably pretty familiar with Italian Ice, Me I'm a West Coaster and had only tried it once before. Let me tell ya, doesn't matter where your from, your gonna love Izzy's Ices! In addition to the plethora of flavors, they offer GF, SF, and Vegan options. They also use Agave as a sweetener in their sugar free selections, vs using a non-food non-real zero calorie sugar substitute that tastes like crap. Went in yesterday for their "Slices and Ices" pop up, and OMG! No joke, seriously the best damn pizza I've ever had! Authentically NY thin style pizza dough with amazing taste. We had cheese and the pepperoni/cheese and were immediately bummed we didn't preorder a whole pizza pie! I could go on and on, go get some.. Now! You won't regret it! read more

Happy to see they finally put the space here to good use - just in time for the end of summer but perhaps a bit early for the fall/winter. Nonetheless, shaved ice sorbets are a definite plus any day of the year. They have a variety of options to choose from - many of which are vegan/gluten-free, which makes it more inclusive of all diets. Their vegan chocolate based items are made with agave and coconut milk, so it's a bit flakier than dairy cream shaved ice. However, I still appreciate having such an option. I got two small scoops for my visit and they were great. Only thing is that they actually were quite small compared to what I'm used to at other shops. Their small feels like a kid's scoop in other places. Service was very friendly and not busy when we went. I imagine their busy season will return when the next heat wave arrives to town. read more

Visiting Santa Cruz and saw a sign for the place. I liked Rita's Italian Ice, so I wanted to try the place out and I think Izzy's is better. Izzy's has a lot more flavors available compared to Rita's which I'm glad for. Definitely was hard to choose, but the owner let me and my bf try a few options to narrow down our choices. He was super friendly and nice. If I lived in the area I would definitely be a frequent visitor. The location is a little hidden as it's not on the main busy street of downtown. This. Was. DELICIOUS. And I absolutely loved the texture -- like a frozen icee that you can scoop with a spoon. After a strangely hot and windy day, I wanted something refreshing but not heavy. My boyfriend and I could not have been happier to find this place. I had tangerine, lemon, and watermelon. He had pineapple and banana choc chip. We tasted several other flavors as well (the owner was helpful and generous) and we were amazed at how yummy they all were. We are both ice cream freaks, and we did not expect to find such a satisfying dessert that didn't leave us feeling gross afterward. Also way more affordable than our old favorite, cold stone. Me and my friend aren't local to Santa Cruz and we didn't know what ice cream shop to choose from. We eventually stumbled upon this store so we went inside to try it out. When we went inside, we were instead introduced to Italian ice. I've never tried Italian ice before. Izzys place had a ton of options and I didn't know what to choose from. The girl there was really kind and helpful towards us, she helped us pick out exactly what we wanted. They let you try flavors so that you can see which ones you end up liking.
