Izgara is a really famous restaurant. They proudly display all their clipings in front of the restaurant. We lived in this neighbourhood for 6 months before coming here and let me tell you it was really good. I came in to this place in sporting attire and it is an upscale place and the servers still were extremely polite to me. I order a Mixed Meze dish of a few sides. It was the perfect size for me. The pilaki (beans in Olive oil) was really, really good, the Cacik was also great. Cacik is sort of the Turkish version of Tszaki sauce. At Izgara, they also do a nice Turkish Apple tea, a real favourite of mine. This is not an inexpensive place, more of a mid-range place and I recommend wearing at least smart casual although when I came in shorts this summer, I may have felt out of place (understatement) but I still had a nice meal. read more

Excellent Turkish restaurant. Great food, service, ambiance and reasonably priced too! In London for a few days to visit family and friends and was recommended to this restaurant. Would suggest you make a reservation as this place is apparently regularly packed. Went to Izgara on a quiet bank holiday Monday in the early evening with my wife and two kids. We ordered 3 starters and some drinks whilst choosing our mains. The starters arrived promptly and we were surprised by the portions which were generous. The reason became apparent later...read on. Mains arrived and were again of a generous size. In fact, there was so much food that we far from finished eating it. When the bill arrived, the generosity of the starters was understood. We had been given two portions of each starter. Unannounced and not requested. So instead of £4.95, it was £9.90 for a starter. A bit of a dirty trick to be honest. Nearly £90 for two adults and two children which is disgraceful. I went there last night with my family. Service is not generally that good in most Turkish restaurants in my opinion. Waiters lack basic training such as how to properly poor wine and how to hold a plate with out leaving their thumb print so lack essential hygiene disciples. 2 stars because both a family member and myself were slightly ill after ordering the lamb mince with yoghurt. My favourite dish. The dish was okay. Nothing particularly special. The bread in the sauce could be better. Tasted slightly stale. The rice was good as well as the chips but that's nothing. I woke up with sick in my mouth, Same as the other person. 100% sure it was the food here. I was slightly reluctant to eat there because they have no hygiene rating outside. Never a good sign for me personally. Would not visit again I am afraid. read more

I like the food, the kebab, unlike many places, is made of sirloin lamb. juicy and perfectly grilled. even their Homus seems to be made in their own way not out of pack and served. the only fault is about the lunch offer, portions are smaller than normal! this is a bit funny. To quality of the food I would give 5 star! I will be there again for sure and recommend to others. read more

This used to be great restaurant and one of my favourite in Barnet...until refurbishment. Since they refurbished this place prices gone up,portions are way smaller and customer service let them down as well. As you got in there is no greet, no smile and waiter was checking on his watch as we got in,that was supposed to be the sign that we got in late, well restaurant was open,and there is no opening hours on the door plus this restaurant used to work until midnight.This was the first time to feel so unwelcome in Izgara,Whetstone.Waitress was the same,no face expression as she brought the food like it's our fault to got in late and restaurant is still open.Well this was the last time to eat in this restaurant, or to even order take away from them.Big let down for regular customers. read more

There was not much choice and the flavours and ingredients are generally the same; lamb,chicken,peppers,aubergine. The vegetables were average and slightly bland. The sides of rice felt not needed and was boring. However the lamb is cooked very well, the Incik (lamb shank) melts off the bone and was very very tender. Basically the meat was seasoned well and was very flavourful. Also I recommend the cold starter selection as the dips tasted natural rather than mass produced. And the bread is some of the best starter breads I've had and it was homemade as well. The meat and bread are the best, the sides and salad not so much. read more

My favourite place to eat in Whetstone and i've tried every restaurant here as its my local area. The staff are welcoming, attentive and friendly. Its very clean and the food is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented and of course, it tastes great! I love Turkish food so i recommend this place to everybody. read more

I have to totally disagree with the other reviewer on their opinion of the Whetstone branch of Izgara. On the negative side the restaurant is quite small and consequently the tables are pretty packed in, however I have to question if this is such an awful restaurant with terrible service then why is it so consistently packed out? Even mid week when many of the other restaurants in Whetstone are sitting virtually empty Izgara is jammed. The reason is they serve simple well cooked delicious food (try the Kuzu Guveç its lovely) and they are very freindly, you are always greeted with a smile unlike the Finchley branch where the proprietors can sometimes come across a little unfriendly. The accusation that it is overpriced is only true when compared to a run of the mill kebab shop but to compare it to that is silly. Basically you can have a starter and a main a couple of beers each and a coffee and 2 of you will be totally stuffed for about £50, to me that is great value. The only thing I would advise avoiding is the mixed veg side which just appears to be boiled frozen mixed veg, hey ho, not everything can be perfect. read more
