The employees at IJL Cleveland are in fact wonderful and seem very good at their jobs, but they are also very pushy salesmen. The entrance fees are honestly quite exorbitant and there is zero flexibility in consideration for changing life circumstances. Within a week on signing up for IJL I had a major family event which caused me to need to relocate out of the state to help my family members and while the staff at IJL was very understanding in a sense when I called to cancel due to needing to move to help my family they were very insistent on me pausing my membership rather than canceling, which was still going to cost me around 50 a month for no services whilst I handled my family situation. After about 20 minutes on the phone we settled on a complimentary pause, but I was in a very emotional state at the time of that phone call as my family emergency was very sudden and I was needing to focus on that. The staff does seem very wonderful and good at their jobs, but you need to understand there is very little consideration of sudden life changes. I had only been signed up for a week when my emergency took place and though I understand based on the contract I signed that I could not expect my deposit back it is honestly causing me much stress and frustration that in theory I paid 2.5k for a single date and now still need to contact again to officially cancel. I understand that it was my responsibility and there is not a special caveat in the contract for emergencies such as this, but still I would have really appreciated a bit more grace on the part of the IJL team in understanding especially given I had only gone on one date with the service. In the initial phone call after I found out about my family emergency while I was clearly stressing over that the team member kept reinforcing that if I don't pay the monthly "pause" fee that my downpayment is simply lost, I really wish given the extremely short term of my membership and the situation that we could have come to a better agreement rather than insisting that if I cancel now due to needing to be out of state that I would have to pay that full amount again if I signed up again. In conclusion I don't feel I have much ground to speak to about the company or team itself because in that brief encounter I had with everyone they were all quite lovely, but you should know that it is a very large financial commitment whether you go on one date or many with them. Update 7/16: I hope to clear up some of the confusion. I do agree that everyone I worked with was exceedingly kind and I mentioned in the previous review that I acknowledge I likely do not have a lot to say given my short experience with this service. My biggest complaint is that given my sudden life circumstances I did only go on one date. I agree with everything you said in your reply and the one date I had was very enjoyable, however given a sudden event I have to be away from the state fairly consistently and I just cannot focus on trying to make this work. On the call when I gave notice I would need to stop this service I was very emotional and had a lot on my mind and the point that was driven home multiple times was that to do this is a waste of money since if I needed to take a break the large deposit was wasted. Unless I was willing to pay a monthly hold fee I would not be welcome back without another 2.5 deposit. And I know it may not seem this way from leaving a review but I genuinely do think that everyone I met was very kind and seemed good at what they do and interested in helping people meet. Don't do it. They talk a great talk, but they have no better match making skills than you do. It's super expensive, though from what other dates have said their pricing is all over the map depending on what they think they can get from you. I had a couple decent dates, but way too many dates with men that did not at all match up with what we had discussed. And a few that I actually felt mad that they even wasted my time with. I'm sure Cleveland has a small pool of people, so maybe in NYC or a bigger market it's worth it, but for me...I'd run and save your money. I have had much better luck with Match.com than I did with IJL. I will say the people you work with are super nice, but watch out during their sales pitch....they will say "oh, I already have someone in mind that I think will be perfect". Started with the service about 2 months ago and thus far it's been phenomenal. The staff are awesome to work with and they listen . The service has kept my calendar full of dates with interesting individuals ! Every date has been different and with my feedback it's just lunch modified their future selections. Three months in, my experience has been decent. Expect the first several dates to be rough, but keep in mind that the matchmakers only know as much about your interests and preferences as you tell them. On that note, the customer service has been very good. After each date, you have a call with It's Just Lunch to provide feedback. It can be awkward to have to explain to a stranger what you didn't like about another stranger that you had a poor first date with, but the staff does a good job of not coming off as judgmental. The process is undoubtedly uncomfortable, but going on a bunch of first dates with complete strangers is inherently uncomfortable. Don't trust these people. They scammed me among others I have talked to. I signed up with them after getting out of an abusive relationship. My abuser left them a negative review and It's Just Lunch tried to convince me to talk to my ex to take it down, which you should never ask a victim to contact their abuser, but I couldn't get it taken down. They refused service from me for it but still somehow charged me $3000 for no service. this is a scam. I told them what I wanted and then they said well you need to open your scope to have more dates which means they couldn't provide me the services that I needed. They did take my money. they talk a great game and make you feel special. The people they set me up with is no one I would ever go out with and that is still considered a date even if I don't want it I suggest you don't waste your money. when I asked to get my money back, they refused to do it and then gave me another date, which was not to my liking at all and then the second one they gave me out of what I asked for. Terrible. They charged me a lot of money, promising to match me up with dates who met my criteria. They did set up many dates, but not one matched the basic criteria. I was frustrated with them blatantly ignoring my requests and so canceled. If only it ended there. For the last FOUR years they have been calling my phone, offering to set me up with more girls. #Run Don't waste you money, literally the worst. I've had better luck on tinder, bumble, hinge than these paid "matchmakers." They ask that you call them after each dates to give feedback so that can "find you better matches". Not true. I went on over 12 dates and they were awful, we had nothing in common and some of the guys were legit rude. The IJL people didn't listen to my date criteria, nor my feedback. Then they called to offer me a "special deal", where they reviewed the feed back that your dates gave about you. It was a ridiculous amount of money, and even after you say "I don't think that's a good financial choice for myself", they KEEP PUSHING IT. Be aware, there is no set price to join. I was told by IJL before I joined, that everyone pays $4,500 or more. That is a huge lie.The cost ranges from a small amount down and making $100 monthly payments to over $4,500 for only 6 months. They did fulfill the contract date quota but they definitely do not care about matchmaking you with someone who meets your requirements, at all. Because they struggle to find people to join, your dating options are very limited. And, a lot of the dates live far away. IJL is a huge con and misleading in every way. IJL requests that you give feedback after each date. Each time I gave my opinion of the date, I was promised that my next date would be better. That did not happen! I'm writing this review because I was so skeptical at the beginning. I thought about all the luck I did not have on all the other online dating sites, then I heard on the radio about IJL. I called in and right away I felt comfortable, because Gina was so personable. She hooked me up with Rebecca and it was as if she was my bff. We hit it off instantly and I always looked forward to hearing her charming voice on the other end. She sets everything up and does it with such compassion and drive. You can actually tell that she wants to find that special someone. My first date was a bit awkward, because you have really no idea what she looks like or how her personality is. I was a bit nervous, but we had a great time. She was not the one I was looking for. I felt that since I was paying for this service I was going to be selective. It took a few different dates, but finally Rebecca found me my soulmate. The service she gives is second to none. She is the best of the best and it really shows when you are on the phone with her. I never met her face to face, but she is my dating guardian angel. I am going to be married this December and I owe it all to Rebecca. Even though I am no longer her client, she still has interest and want's me to send her our wedding photos. I'm going to miss our phone conversations and that sweet voice on the other end, but I will always know that she is just a phone call away. Don't waste your money, time or sanity on what I personally feel is a service with little-to no value for a huge price tag. Sure the ladies who work in the office are nice, sweet and personable. But the company's rigid no-refund policy is sure sign that they don't fully believe in what they are doing--take a look at the Zappos and other companies who actually care about their customers. I don't want to hear how 12 people got engaged because of IJL: this month--I care about my personal experience which from day one has been unsettling and full of financial regret and I have wanted out. But no, they lock you into a $2500 plus joining "membership" fee plus then require another near 100 per month to be in their "system". I knew after the first "meeting" with a guy that was so negative in his outlook on life, I knew the matching was a total joke. I was even told on three (of four meetings I had in four months--2 real in person and 2 virtual) that they were asked to meet IJL ladies my "handpicked just for you" matches were a total bust, because there wasn't a lot of guys to match their clients with--which explains why While the ladies in the office are lovely, kind and nice people, the company in my opinion is completely tone-deaf and unaccountable-and nothing they are doing is tangible --to accurately assess value other than how I feel with the experience and "service" and that does not matter. None of the guys I was "matched" with were any where near what would be a good match for me, I was told over and over how there were "hundreds" of men in my age range. Yeah, right. COVID-19 was perfect opportunity to match clients with people for virtual dates...I had two. TWO? Everyone is home--but when I raised this point the head of the franchise for CLV area said, We have thousands of clients, thousands (sic) so how can you expect us to match you with any more than that. Really? Well for 2300 plus 100 you should be matching at least every 2 weeks--if you can't keep up with volume-that is your issue-staffing issue. Terrible. Happily took my money and told me lies all the way through. Passed me from matchmaker to matchmaker always saying they would send me a match but then I'd never hear from them again only to start again with another matchmaker. I spent 2K and was never set up on a live date, they set me up on 2 zoom dates with men who were not my type at all, did the match maker ever read my profile? When I asked if they try to match people based values they continually ignored my question. I started requesting a refund after 4 weeks but they passed the buck to the person up the line for weeks then said the refund date passed. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone, worst business practices I've ever experienced with any business. The account rep, who misled me and I thought was my matchmaker spent three hours of my time getting to know me and I really felt like she got me hooked me by saying there were three men in my area who were perfect for me. Once I bought in, I never heard from her again and my first matchmaker said there were not 3 men in my area, he didn't know what I was talking about, he called the sales lady and then let me know those men she referred to weren't actually members. When I first joined IJL, I decided to make this large financial investment with the mentality that it would assist me in finding something truly priceless: genuine love. After about a year in the program, I am really starting to regret my decision. Competing methods for finding a lifelong partner, such as online dating programs, were a wreck, as many folks there had poor intentions... thus the reason I joined IJL. I have never had that issue with It's Just Lunch, but now I'm facing incompatibility issues on a regular basis, which is making me feel like I should take a break from dating. Sometimes my matches did not work out because of my own opinions about the other party, but I believe more often than not, my matches found me to be a poor match, often due to lack of shared interests and/or lack of attraction. On the flip side, the people who work for IJL are very upbeat, and I enjoy the staff's warm demeanor and willingness to listen. Sadly, though, my goal has not come to fruition. I am hopeful that will change someday, but as it stands currently, after about 1 year of participation in IJL, I don't feel this program has really been as advantageous as I had hoped. At this point, I've made a commitment that has put me under financial strain without any substantial outcome.
