When you're in the vicinity of an iconic pizzeria from Naples, you better get your backside in…read morethere! If you know me, you already know I was first through the door. Service was attentive, no complaints there. I went with the Bufala DOP, featuring Campana DOP pomodoro for €12.40. The dough was incredibly soffice -- light, soft and pillowy, just as you'd hope. Debbie ordered the Parma DOP, with 36-month Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Prosciutto Crudo di Parma DOP, pomodorini, fiordilatte, EVOO and fresh basil for €13.00. Honestly, hers was the better pizza in my opinion. So, does Sorbillo justify the higher prices? The focus is clearly on the ingredients and their DOP credentials, including that 36-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano. For me, though, part of the appeal is the experience of trying a famous Neapolitan pizzeria right here in Torino. I'm glad we gave it a try, and I think it's worth experiencing once. That said, I can't honestly say I'd be rushing back. Saluti!

We started with the MANTOVA PUMPKIN FLAN WITH SCALLOP AND SHRIMP RAGOUT. It was light and well flavored. The BOLOGNESE TORTELLINI WITH CREAM, HAM AND PEAS was probably my favorite. The MEZZI PACCHERI PASTA WITH CHEESE AND PEPPER CREAM AND LEMON ZEST was a close second. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauces were creamy and delicious. Because I felt as if I need some type of protein with the MEZZI paccheri pasta, we also ordered the SLICED BEEF TENDERLOIN WITH AROMATIC HERBS AND BALSAMIC VINEGAR REDUCTION. Everything was so good. I look forward to returning.

The current owner who is the son-in-law of the original owner took our order. I ordered the pappardelle Raghu with rabbit and my hubby ordered the braised veal. The veal came with a side of pickled zucchini. I ordered a Da Mauro special salad which was radicchio, tomato, and Parmesan shavings. The salad had no dressing. The cheese was the dressing and it was good. The veal was tender and the tomato sauce was tasty. My pappardelle was good not quite al dente but the sauce was good and the meat was tender. Tasted like chicken ;-) For dessert, I ordered the seasonal fresh fruit with gelato and hubby had wanted a port which they did not carry but the owner recommended something similar but better he said. He tried it but at first thought it was sweeter than he'd liked but after the 2nd sip, it started to grow on him. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere friendly with the servers chit chatting with customers like old friend.

Situated on a corner, the restaurant has nice views as well as the interior decor is well done. We could also smell the tasty food smells when escorted to our table This place has traditional Italian fare but also Mediterranean influences. The prices of food and wine are very very reasonable. We had the tzatziki, simply delicious, with guacamole. Next was a very good tuna salad as well as the vegetable spaghetti that had tasty sauces(one on each side of the pasta) Ended with the pork cheek in a Barolo reduction sauce and mashed potatoes. The wine; fantastic! Ordered a 2003 Barolo but it had turned so we went with a 2010. As they say, anything in 2010 for Italian wine is great; this was true today!

The crust is a bit more substantial than you find in most restaurants here, but still not as thick as an American pizza. I really liked the crust and they also offered us spicy olive oil which I love to drizzle on my pizzas. We each got a drink and shared a bottle of water and our total with the coperto (€1 each) was €30 which I thought was about what I would expect to pay for a meal like that. Pizzas were about €7-8 for most of the options. The menu looked fairly extensive, along with the pizzas they also had pasta options and some typical Piedmontese appetizers. I'd definitely like to go back again!

There are sandwiches. There are great sandwiches. And then…read morethere's Master Sandwich in Turin--where Paulo, a man who speaks six languages and somehow makes each one taste like bread and glory, presides over his counter like a god in an apron. This place isn't a shop. It's a shrine. You don't wander in--you make the pilgrimage. The air smells like toasted bread and cured meats, and somewhere behind it all is Paulo, building another small miracle with his hands. He's not slapping ingredients together; he's conducting an orchestra. The bread is percussion, the cheese is strings, the meat is brass, and the sauces... they're the slow, smoky notes that stay with you long after you've walked out the door. I came to Turin for just a few days. I left with the taste of this place burned into my memory like a favorite song. Two sandwiches--different beasts entirely--and Paulo wanted my honest verdict on both. That's not ego. That's the hunger of a man who knows the craft isn't just about being great once--it's about being great every damn time. The bread shatters just enough to let the fillings take over. The flavors aren't just balanced--they're in conversation with each other. And the sauces? They haunt you, the way a great meal should. If there's a heaven for sandwiches, Paulo is there already--smiling, knife in hand, sliding something across the counter that will ruin every other sandwich you've ever known.

As a solo traveller heading home tomorrow I wasn't sure I wanted to head out for more wine and carbs but boy, am I glad I did... Seeking out some decent seafood I turned up on a Thursday night hoping for a table for 1. I was asked politely to come back in 20 mins which was not a problem. Antonio was happy to keep me entertained and I stumbled across some live musicians in the nearby sq. Upon my return I was promptly seated and given the menus (written in Italian and English). I started with the Mussels Marinara and was not disappointed. A generous portion and delicious flavour. The sauce is not tomato based, white wine, perhaps? I also went for the seafood linguine. WOW. Easily the best I have ever had... As it arrived I thought at the table I would never be able to finish the portion, but it was so delicious I literally could not stop eating. Crammed full of the freshest seafood and coated in just enough of whatever delicious sauce it was in. My idea of perfection. All the whilst Antonio and the wonderful waitress were kind and attentive, despite being run off of their feet. I love the old school system of adding the bill total up on paper as opposed to on a computer. Slightly slower but so much more personal. Sad to be leaving Torino tomorrow and particularly sad I won't be back to Il Giglio for a while now (they close soon for a few weeks for their summer break). Simply wonderful. Thank you so much to Antonio and his team - I will be back!!!
