The outside appearance, a older strip mall appearance. Get past that and enjoy some great Caribbean food. For lunch recommending the jerk chicken sandwich. Huge hoagie type bun, fresh, plenty of jerk chicken. Also the sampler platter. I was able to buy some bottles of Calypso sauce, Scotch bonnet sauce. Great stuff. Hard to find. We make this trip again from SSI. Yeah mon. read more

Definitely do recommend Island Jerk Shack. Hubby and I stopped in to get plates to go. Restaurant is nice and big, also has pool tables. Lady who took our order was very nice. I ordered the large curry goat and hubby the large curry chicken. Everything cooked to perfection and island spice in every bite. Meal comes with rice and peas, cabbage and fried plantains. Before we left the cook came out for us to try his house cooked fried chicken. Listen if I hadn't already ordered the curry goat I would have gotten it. The chicken was seasoned and fried very well. No heavy batter, just good fried chicken. Thank you for letting us try it. Can't wait to come back. read more

I wish I could add stars! Everything here is just delicious. The oxtails are the best! Coming from a Jamaican family we know authentic cuisine! The owner George is one of the best people we have met in Georgia. The ladies behind the counter are friendly and super attentive. We live almost an hour away but come up here quite a bit. This place is warm and reminds us of back home. If you haven't tried it you are missing out! read more

I am not sure what this place is trying to be. Looks like a pool hall but they have a stage, and a bar area where the food comes out. Quite a few tables also. I got a large curry chicken. It was good, but the meat was mostly bone, 6 chunks of dark meat, but one had no meat at all, just bone and skin. The rice with beans was a little over cooked, but tasted ok. Also came with fried plantains and cabbage, both were good. I got the wife a budget box (she claimed to not want anything) of jerk chicken and rice. It came with more meat than the large curry at 40% if the cost. She thought it was good. I wasn't as impressed, a little too much bbq sauce for me. read more

The Island Jerk Shack is located in a large strip mall with plenty of parking. The dining area is large with several simple tables on a concrete floor. There is billiard table at one corner and a small stage at the other. The stage was empty when we visited. The large screen TVs were showing wrestling. We ordered the jerk chicken, oxtail entree, and rice and veggie bowl. The food was brought to our table in styrofoam to-go containers and the drinks were served in small plastic cups. The food was okay but not especially appetizing. I was hoping for spicy jerk chicken and flavorful vegetables but both lacked what much flavor. The oxtail was tender but didn't have the spicy kick that I expected. The service was not great. Our server never smiled and was not very hospitable. Our drinks were never filled. Your experience may be better if you get your order delivered or to-go. read more

The Patties, curry goat, ox tail and jerk chicken were all amazing. My kids enjoy take out from here. I enjoy not having to raise, kill, clean, season and curry my own goat - it's just easier to get it from here. Very much a "hole in the wall" type of establishment, food and service is as authentic as if you were in the Caribbean. read more

Great portions, good vibes with DJ. Curry chicken was ok but would try it again when in town.

This place was so damn good. I haven't had some proper Jamaican food since I been to Jamaica and they did not disappoint. The only negative thing I can say was one of the servers was rude. I never been here before and there's no clear indicator where to order. I stood at the bar for about 5 mins, was never greeted, and when I finally decided to wave her down she gave me a stink look like I was bothering her. But another girl came from the back and she came straight to me and was hella nice. The ambiance was pretty chill, they had live music which was good. I live in the west coast and was only here for work but if I lived in the area I'd be here a lot read more

Island Jerk Shack - Beef patty w/ coco bread, tostones, and mango margarita - Caribbean Near Me - Brunswick, Georgia

Stopped in as a fluke because it was in the same strip mall as the nail salon I'd just visited. Place seems simple and unpretentious. Ordered a simple fried fish sandwich with remoulade, lettuce & tomato and it was delicious. Because there was a 15 minute wait, the server brought me some corn bread to start off. Don't usually like sweet corn bread, figured I'd never eat all three pieces, but this stuff just got better and better as I ate it. It could pass for a simple dessert. I ordered lemonade without the slightest thought that it would be anything other than MinuteMaid, but it was clearly made by hand and was actually the best I've had in a restaurant in my very long life. The server, who later told me she made the cornbread and lemonade herself, was extra courteous. She invited me to come for the live music on Wednesday night. Oh yes, I'll be back and I hope to bring friends. read more

I've eaten at island jerk shack one time with my daughter I ordered the rice &pea with oxtail/ fish, and curry goat & roti the rice was good a bit spicy oxtail was a bit spicy also the fish for me was unbeatable just way way to spice I can handle a bit of spice but that was way too much for me the goat ended up being extra spicy because the vinegar got on it from the fish BUT on the flip side of things my daughter loved everything she is a spice queen she enjoyed everything about the meal I will go back and be more mindful of what i ordered I will leave a review the next time I go all the food got eaten just not by me it was also verypricey things came up to $60 plus do for 2 people the pers that sever very, very, very nice. She wanted to help redo my order what my daughter ate it so I just left it the same way but they were very nice people there. read more

Food is aamazing coming from NYC this is fire!!!! Served amazing and fast and polite.

Awesome hole in the wall place with low lighting in a semi-sketchy strip mall. Food is excellent and the service is friendly!! My coworkers and I went here after work on a weeknight and were all pleased with our orders. It was a pretty clean place but had a dingy dj corner - maybe they turned into a club for the weekends!? I know they have a liquor license since I got a piña colada to drink. We ordered conch fritters and shrimp for appetizers. I had the small sample plate with oxtail, jerk pork and jerk chicken. The sides were cooked cabbage, rice and beans, and fried plantains. We also had coco bread which was awesome. This took about 15 minutes for our food to come out. The place has a Jamaican theme and lots of Bob Marley paraphernalia so if that is not your vibe, I recommend ordering your food to go. read more

Perfect taste every time! Great value for your money. Succulent meat, seasoned just enough to allow the savory meat flavor to meld with the herbs. Cabbage is dripping in butter, tender and crisp at the same time; it's not healthy veg but delicious and totally complements the rest of the meal. Even the black bean dirty rice buried under the meat is phenomenal. And those plantains... it's hard for me to dislike any plantain I've ever met, but these are some skillful plantains--golden sweet on the inside, brown crisp on the outside, perfect! Always had the order right, on time, and hot and fresh. read more

Great food and nice service! Really enjoyed the trio with ox tail. Beef cake not my favorite

Great food, for sure. The service the first time my family visited was very good. The last time we went, not so much. Perhaps it was because they were preparing for their evening entertainment and preoccupied. Not sure. We enjoyed the food, nonetheless, but felt like we were a burden and in the way. I'd definitely recommend them if you're interested in some great authentic jerk chicken, ox tail, etc. Also, I will say the chef was very friendly both times and cared about his food being good. For that and for the good food, I'm bumping my rating up to four stars (from my original three). read more

This was a really good find. When we walked in it was slightly confusing as to whether or not we were supposed to seat ourselves, which turns out you do. There are menus already on the tables but they need to be cleaned, especially during this time of COVID. Nonetheless we ordered jerk chicken plate and a jerk pork sandwich. The food was so freaking delicious. I will say my sandwich was room temp instead of hot but it was still really freaking good. It came with plantains which were also delicious but cold. The jerk chicken was steaming (literally) hot and good with rice and cabbage. The plates are also a good size for the money. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

First time ever trying Jamaican food.. all I can say is that I've been missing out... The oxtail bone with rice IS TO DIE FOR HERE!! The meat melts right off the bone into your mouth... the flavor you get from this dish is amazing. The price is super reasonable and you get a good amount. The plantains were delicious and cooked to perfection. You can definitely taste the spices of homemade Jamaican food. I will definitely be coming back often and would highly recommend anyone who is around to try!! read more

Ate here for the first time with my coworkers. I ordered the large sized Sample Trio for $15.50. It's a scoop of rice, side cabbage/carrots, a piece of some kind of fried banana, and 3 meat choices, all covered in jerk sauce. I chose the jerk pork, jerk chicken, and oxtail. I also had Jamaican fruit punch for my drink. My plate was delicious and it was very fulfilling. There's a lot of parking for everyone. This Jamaican place appears to be more of a sports bar or maybe a karaoke bar (because there was a large projector and a sound system set up) than the typical dine in restaurant. There's a billiards table on one side and a section that appears to be a possible karaoke bar with a dance floor. Our waiter (forgot to get his name, I think he was also the owner) was super friendly and provided awesome service. We also had a guy who played some live blues music while we were eating. The large projector was also showing Sundays football game so that was nice. The tables aren't the cleanest and the most stable, but the food made me not think about it anymore lol. If I had more time here in Brunswick, I would definitely come back. Anyone who hasn't tried Jamaican food yet, should definitely give it a try. read more

Based on a recommendation from a co-worker I decided to try the Jerk Shack. When I pulled up I wasn't sure if it was open, but I went up to the door and thankfully found that they were. I got a good recommendation from the lady behind the counter to try the sample trio plate. I could choose any three meats from the list. I picked jerk chicken, braised ox tail and curry goat with all cabbage, rather than rice. I drove back to the hotel to give it a try. The smell in the car ride over was heavenly. The aroma of curry and sweet and spicy flavors permeated the packaging and filled the rental car with deliciousness. I dont know how I held myself back from stopping on the side of the road and just scarfing it down. I remained calm, took a couple of deep curry filled breaths and drove on. I got to the hotel room and could barely contain myself. I ripped open the bag to expose the luscious contents contained within. Ugh, it sounds like a foodies romance novel. I started with a piece of jerk chicken and a piece of cabbage. The flavor of the chicken was good, but it was a little dry. I was also expecting the jerk flavor to be spicy (as in hot), but sadly it wasn't at all. Thankfully the cabbage was soft and moist and went well with the chicken. I went in for the goat curry and was really impressed with the flavor. Both, the goat and the oxtail meat was moist and filled with curry (the flavors combined a bit on the drive back to the hotel). It was very good. The goat was bony, but the meat was cooked to perfection, it just melted in my mouth. The ox tail was soft and flavorful. I grabbed the bull by the horns, actually in this case it would be the tail, and gnawed the meat from the bones. I was really impressed and will return for the garlic shrimp if I come back to town. read more

Absolutely love this restaurant. In the three weeks I have been in Georgia I have come here at least one or two times a week. The staff is incredibly friendly and talkative with their customers. The whole time my coworkers and I were waiting, we conversed with the team, instead it was updated on our order or what we were doing in Georgia. All of the staff has Jamaican accents too; we thought that was cool. The food was fresh and cooked perfectly. I have always been a fan of jerk chicken, and this may have been the best I have had. I did try the goat also, which was also very good. It's great to have a good restaurant close to the base because that chow hall food gets old real quick. The Jerk Shack is a win-win restaurant, excellent staff, and delicious food. read more

The chicken was very good, but the scenery was unorganized. When walking in, your weren't greeted. You had to just realize that you were seating yourself. When asked about some of the items on the menu, the response was "it's all good", which didn't answer the question. The food being good was the main reason it's a 3/5 star. read more

This is a challenging review to write. I ordered the small jerk pork meal. Food came out fast and was very tasty. Portion size was large (small was more than I could eat). On the flip side, the restaurant is not even doing a minimum effort at COVID-19 protection. No masks, no gloves, etc. As a result, I am giving them a 2-star review for what would have been a 5-star experience, if they had done some minimal attempt to protect their customers. read more

So, I've been in Brunswick a week. I have yet to find any restaurant better. I have never had Jamaican food that I'm necessarily crazy about, but this food right here! It was amazing. I loved the atmosphere and even if I had never stepped foot in the restaurant this food is definitely remarkable. My Togo order took awhile because they were pulling fresh goat, so while I waited I got a Jamaican and rum punch. The drink I got was small but it definitely packed a punch. Small strong drinks are definitely a plus for me. I only had one and I still felt the alcohol, not to mention, you couldn't even taste the alcohol and it wasn't even too sweet. The bartender was a sweetheart and the other customers in the restaurant were great company. Overall giving this restaurant a 10/10. I literally have NO complaints read more

The food here was very good. It was served in foam to-go containers even though we were eating there. Did not like that so much. I had the three choice meal, curry goat, oxtail, and jerk pork. I did not find the pork in the dish but did not complain. The cooked cabbage was wonderful. Ordered coco bread and I am glad I don't live nearby because that is damn addictive it is so good. I was craving Jamaican food on vacation on St. Simons and I found this place. The tofu curry stew was the best I have ever had. You could taste the level of flavors in the dish and the amount of heart and care they took to make it. The jerk chicken was tender and authentic.
