Per the staff at the temple, Minibus times are not consistent, but they are easily accessible from MTR Tai Po Station; we tried to get 20T but we wouldn't have made our appointment. There were other minibus options, but this one would have dropped us off right at the entrance. The guarantee is to take a taxi, but it will cost a bit more vs the minibus. Their website lists several options to get there. Environment: Reservations are required to enter and can be done on their website. When you arrive, present your confirmation / QR. It's self guided with plenty of descriptions around to describe what you're seeing. Be sure to take a bowl and fill it with water to offer the Guan Yin statue. It's recommended to take mindful steps towards the collection bowl. What was ordered: Free to visit, but reservations are required. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to visit, this is the place. The reservation system ensures that the place is not too crowded and it's fairly easy to get a spot. Only issue is figuring out how to get here since there are multiple options. Oh, and their cafe gives out free drinks and a piece of cake that you can enjoy in their outdoor resting area.

It was seriously such a hassle because available reservations open up every day at around 9AM, but the reservations fill up very quickly due to the high demand; everyone is trying to visit. I would have to remember to check for availability every morning because I really wanted to visit this monastery. It was nearby where I lived/worked, so it would be an utter shame if I couldn't visit it given its proximity. I was sitting in the restroom one morning when I suddenly randomly remembered to try to make a reservation. Thankfully, I finally did. It was part of my last few weeks of being in Hong Kong, and it was such a beautiful experience. Very hot though, because it was the summer. If you're planning to visit Tai Mei Tuk/Tai Po, try to fit Tsz Shan Monastery into your itinerary. After we left Tsz Shan Monastery, we ended up in Tai Mei Tuk for paddle boating and a BBQ dinner. This was one of those days where every thing we did was unforgettable. A type of day that I hope comes around more often in my life.

It is the oldest surviving Western ecclesiastical building in Hong Kong and the oldest Anglican church in the Far East. It was consecrated in 1852. Centrally located, the cathedral is surrounded by the Bank of China Tower, Cheung Kong Center, and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Building as well as former government offices. It is one of the oldest buildings in Hong Kong. So easy to walk from the St. John's Cathedral to the HSBC Bank as Jacky gave us such an interesting history lesson. One day after their attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese attacked Hong Kong on December 8, 1941. During the Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong, the cathedral was converted into a club for the Japanese. Many of the original fixtures were removed. The site of St. John's Cathedral is the only freehold land in Hong Kong. All other land tenure in Hong Kong is leasehold. The first pew is still reserved for the Royal British family in case of a visit to Hong Kong.

I have visited Tian Tan Buddha in Lantau Island, Hong Kong in 1999, 2014 and 2025. Although this…read morerecently trip was not my first time, I'm still blown away as if I am seeing the Buddha for the very first time! If you have never been to Hong Kong, I highly recommend this in your itinerary. There are several ways to reach Lantau Island. You can take a bus, taxi or hike up. We took the scenic route, via Ngong Ping 360, which is a cable gondola lift in Hong Kong, connecting Tung Chung and Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island. The ride is about 25 minutes each way offers stunning views. Unless you're afraid of heights, this is the best way to get there. Tip#1: Spend a little more money and purchase the Crystal or Crystal with glass-bottom cart because there is a separate line. During busy time, you will save a lot of time both ways. Not to mention the stunning views! Trust me! Tip#2: If you're in HK for limited days and you're arriving in HK before 12-1 pm, consider visiting Tian Tan Buddha from HK Airport. Assuming your hotel is in Kowloon or in HK, which is about an hour from the airport. I say this because you can catch a bus from the airport to Tung Chung. I think it was about 20 minutes bus ride. This way you can saving time and money and not have to make another trip back to Lantau Island. Also, they have luggage storage for $100 HKD ($13 UDS) per piece. Once you arrive to the village, there are small shops and food options before you climb 268 steps up to the platform. With a sprained ankle, I was able to climb up, so anyone can do this. Coming down was another story but worth it because the beauty and serenity of the 112 foot tall Buddha will take your breath away.

Not to be outdone by the lack of options, Rosary Church is the spot for Catholics looking to attend masses throughout the week. It may be among the handful of churches in Kowloon, but is the only one in TST. Like many churches, it is a lot bigger than it looks and like most things Hong Kong, it's often way more crowded than it can accommodate. On Sundays, Rosary can pack as much as 300 people, even though the aisles and pews are super tight as it is. Visitors may find the place to be a tad claustrophobic, but this is just the way things are in this part of the world. It is highly recommend to come here early, as the masses are punctual and the seats fill up quickly. Depending on the time, services are available in Cantonese or English. For the most part, the place is clean and there is some mild wear and tear on the interior. The choir could stand to be a bit better for weekend services, but folks aren't coming here to listen to music. Overall the facilities are solid and the ventilation is decent given how old the building is. Parking is nearly impossible and the walk from the MTR is a good 10-15 minutes away. Rosary Church is relatively close to the HK Science Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Irony by proximity anyone?

Today Jeff and I visited ohel Leah synagogue in Hong Kong. It's a Wednesday morning. Usually a…read morequiet time. We attended morning services. They were just over a dozen gentleman and I was there and one other woman. In order to enter there is a very good security check. We were carefully screened in Israeli style security checks. There was a metal detector. The gentleman in the services were not overly friendly to new faces. Although at the end of the service I table is set up in a lovely dairy breakfast was served. The rabbi gave a short lesson, and welcomed a lesson from my husband. I would be willing to go back again. The building is beautiful, the sanctuary is beautiful. It is an Orthodox style service. They use art scroll siddur and eitz Haim Chumash I sat upstairs in the balcony...It is in the midst of the Jewish community center. I did not have a chance to explore the community center, although I did see lots of signage for programs. It looks like a very active place. The gentleman say that on a Shabbat morning there is a packed house.we befriended some other tourists. Looks like this is a community that embraces a lot of out-of-town people. While the façade of the traditional one is nicely adorned with orange tiled roof, this one, on the other hand, is very modern with glass and concrete, which serves as the main building nowadays. From its appearance, this new establishment does resemble a giant lotus, which glows at night. To me that is a little bit too much but this huge glass blossoming lotus does capture lots of people's eyes by offering the best view of the Tuen Mun area. Ascending the staircase, I was first greeted by a small golden Buddha statue. And later I saw some other statues that I still have no idea what deities they are representing, anyways, so I kept walking up for a while until I got to the top. The view here was extremely striking as this place is basically the tallest one in that area, so you can see mountains from afar unobstructed by any buildings; also the colorful monastery next to you. After the view and the flight of stairs, I was rather hungry so I was on my way to the community hall where I saw a Buddhist shrine. I am not a vegetarian but I have to say that they do serve rather nice food here. Overall, the majestic surroundings do give visitors a peaceful feeling and I will definitely see this as a nice experience.
