I recently attended a wedding reception at Island Arts Centre and it's a beautiful, modern,…read moreextremely well designed building for such functions. Architecturally it consists of curved walls and circular rooms. Large glass windows let natural light in and allow a view of the green landscape. Pleasant, helpful staff and a delicious buffet with scrumptious veggie options of veg pizza, sandwiches and a lush garlic and herb dip. There was plenty for all the meat eaters as well. Admittedly not a large selection of wines but we had a quality Prosecco and Sauvignon Blanc and thus the wannabe wine snob within me was more than happy. I'm giving this spot 4 stars because I think it's such a great venue and I had an enjoyable time at the wedding. I believe the whole building is referred to as Lagan Valley Island however they don't just offer event facilities - as per their website "Lagan Valley Island has many functions; It is headquarters of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and the facility is also a unique mix of civic, business and arts facilities - home to council offices, the Island Arts Centre, Council Chambers, a purpose built Conference Centre, Theatre, and stunning wedding facilities". I fully intend to return to see a play or a visual arts exhibition. If I can fault this place in any way - it would just be that it's perhaps a little tricky to get to if you don't drive.

There are 14 screens in this cinema, so you cn be sure, no matter what your genre of choice is, they will always be showing something for everyone of all ages! The seats are comfy, and you can always get a good view. You get the full cinema experience here, the huge drinks, the huge popcorn, the nachos, the hot dogs and all the sweets you can eat! They also have a Haagen Dasz ice cream bar with a good selection of ice creams to munch through your movie. The complex is ideally located with plenty of parking nearby eateries so you can make a night of it! They also have a facility where you can pre order your tickets, and collect them from an automated machine on arrival.

My daughter is autistic, and can't stand the sensation of popcorn, it sends her into a meltdown. There were 5 kids in total today on our trip including her, and they wanted the kiddie pack (popcorn, sweets, and a drink). She of course wanted the same as everyone else. I asked the girl behind the counter if could pay extra, could my daughter have a kiddie box, but with a few nachos instead? I was told no, there's no way, it has to be popcorn. I then asked could I buy a portion of nachos, and then maybe an empty kiddie box, so that I could quickly add them to it, so it looked like she had the same as the rest, again was told no, those boxes are counted, and they can't give them away. I explained I'm not asking for it to be free? I was willing to pay? Answer was still no. So with a queue forming behind me, my daughter on the verge of a meltdown, and myself very red faced thinking that people thought I was being a nuisance, then told the girl I'd pay for a full kiddie box, and a portion of nachos, and not to put too much popcorn in it, seeing I was literally walking away to empty in the bin. I finally got into the theatre, my daughter spotted what I had to do, and then refused to eat anything because the popcorn had 'touched' her box. What on earth is the mentality of some people behind the counters? I was willing to pay extra just to settle my daughter and let her think she was having the same as everyone else, why was this such a big deal for the staff? I don't think it was an unreasonable request? Needless to say her trip was ruined, the meltdown that started after she saw me switching popcorn to nachos left her unsettled and emotional through the movie. What should've been a pleasant afternoon turned into a nightmare for her. Yes from an outside perspective it was just a bit of popcorn, but for an autistic child with sensory issues, it was a big deal. I doubt I'll be back to this cinema, it's left me with a pretty negative view and I certainly won't be bringing my daughter back.
