Isis Star Dance Studio is one of the biggest belly dance studios in the area, if not one of the bigger studios in the US. The largest attend classes at this studio are Isis' cabaret style belly dance classes. They also offer Hula, Doubeck drum classes, children classes, usually one-two different cardio/dance related classes, and they will usually have a tribal belly dance class as well depending on demand for it at the time. As well they have various performance troops from their Wings of Isis, Isis' Professional Performing Company , The Drums of Isis, etc. Isis also has in studio workshops but they also host usually in August every year a huge belly dance weekend of workshop & performances called Yaa Halla, Y'all. This usually has workshops by big name dancers & drummers in the industry, as well as performances by those giving workshops, up and comers, as well as booths to buy costumes, drums, etc. It has been a while from the time that I've taken classes there so I can't really speak to classes currently. Which is why I can't allow myself to do more than 3 stars because I can't speak to current classes being offered. Yet many of my friends that I made when I was taking classes at Isis ... some that started before, at the same time, or after ... are still there and have or working their way in to the professional performance troops. They try to be as family friendly as possible. There are many mother daughter, sisters, husband and wives, that are all involved in the studio in one way shape or fashion. Go check them out, maybe attend a Hafla (best way to describe it is almost a recital mixed in with party) See about checking out a beginners class. read more

We've been part of the Isis family since 2001, first with my wife and now with our eldest daughter as dancers. And yes, I did say FAMILY, because that's how everybody associated with this studio treats each other. Isis has trained dancers who have won tons of awards nationally and internationally. The studio hosts Yaa Halla Y'all every August at the Grapevine Convention Center. It is a 4-day event with workshops, performances, competitions, and vendors from around the nation and overseas. read more

I'm in Texas for a few months visiting family. I saw that a belly dancing studio was near by, I was ecstatic!! I've been dancing for 12 years and its the best therapy for a military wife. I've traveled to many cities and have dropped into classes with no problem. Business is business right? When I walked in for information and a strawberry blonde 40 year-oldish woman was the rudest, most cold hearted woman I've ever met in the belly dancing world. Clearly I felt unwelcomed.. I left with a broken heart and tears. Its worse enough that I'm worried constantly for my husbands well being. All I wanted to do was dance. read more

I started dancing a while back, but when my mom had surgery we had to take some time off. We got multiple letters in the mail welcoming us back, and about a year after we left we decided to come back. The employees here were more than accommodating for our circumstances. Isis- the owner and head dancer- is super nice and great instructor. Anytime we walk in there's always a reason to smile. Classes are always fun and interesting. If you feel like its going too fast or you aren't catching on, your dance instructor will always be able to help *right then* so you don't get confused or fall behind. Everyone is super nice. When you have issues with their business practices and try in a nice way to resolve an issue ISIS becomes rude, condescending unapologetic and blames others for their business practices. With such a frosty reception why would anyone refer a friend! read more

If you are an experienced belly dancer or just want to give it a try, it doesn't get any better than at Isis. There is something for every level and the warm welcome you feel is almost beyond words. I have never been in a place where there is acceptance flowing throughout. I started in a Hula class and now take belly dance as well. I love it! read more

I was somewhat confused by the review left before this one. Nothing negative was reported and indeed, taking lessons here was even recommended and yet because her current knowledge of the studio was limited she instead gives it fewer stars. Yelp reviews can make a difference to a business and so I would consider not leaving a review at all would be less damaging then than errantly scoring this rather exceptional studio as only average. Not remotely helpful to the business or the readers. Anyway to make up for the thoughtless scoring , I have given the studio a well deserved 5 stars basically because its likely that there isn't anything better in the DFW area because I personally know dancers who have tried other places because of distance issues only to come back, preferring to make the long drive than suffer the amateur unreliable manner in which other belly dance instructors manage their students. I should mention at this point that I am a CURRENT student of 2 years. To summarize though, classes are well organized, affordable, carefully structured and closed, even beginner classes close after a little while and instead runs every 6 months so current students are not forced to repeat everything over and over every time someone new joins a class which apparently is common to other belly dance classes .Requirements and standards have to be met to progress to more advanced classes so everyone is appropriately placed and able to cope with the choreographies. Isis is reliable and dedicated to a fault and teaches practically every class herself ,no matter rain, shine, ice , snow earthquake, tornado or a sudden apocalypse. There is performance opportunity available for beginner students upwards and Isis it seems has the performance monopoly on every festival this side of the hemisphere and so if performance is your thing, this studio is for you, As belly dance studios go, its huge, like nationally huge and so the sisterhood is strong. You would have to be a real social pariah not to make friends here. Personally, I love the studio and the majority of everyone in it and even though I basically have two left feet,I cannot deny that the instruction has ensured that I am operating at my optimum, which might not be that great to be honest but its still better than I ever thought possible. What I am saying is that there is room for all abilities at the studio. Isis the owner is beloved, all the students dig her. She is a bit of a special soul with a bucket load of charisma to boot. I cant recommend Isis as an instructor or this place enough and so to really understand how special it is you just have to try it. Its just too hard to do it justice by the written word. read more
