they don't deliver my oil for weeks, my building is nearly frozen out of fuel. just a few gallons of oil left even though corporate promises to get it delivered. My building is under 5 miles away from your Barre site, this is no way to treat customers and put us on hold FOREVER and never call back like nobody cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I switched to Irving energy/propane 2 years ago as I was eligible for a discount thru my employer. Last year I ran out of propane (my only heating source) in the middle of winter. I came home from work and the house was 40 degrees. After some troubleshooting, I determined the tank was empty. The telephone customer service rep was extremely patronizing and insisted the issue was due to a problem with the furnace. An auto delivery occurred a few days prior. The tank was 95% full at that time and was "topped off" with 5 gallons. A service tech was sent "to fix the furnace". After replacing a few parts, the pilot would not light. A second tech was sent to assist with "the repair". He was not able to find the issue, and on a whim checked the tank. GUESS WHAT? IT WAS EMPTY! The Auto-delivery person had misread the gauge. Here I am, my second winter using Irving and the same scenario occurred last week. When a delivery truck was finally sent out, I insisted the driver remain until I got the furnace going. After several attempts by myself and the delivery man, the pilot would not light. On a whim I asked the driver if he had opened the line after filling the tank. He responded "yes, but I'll double check". GUESS WHAT? The LINE WAS CLOSED! Once opened, the pilot was lit, and the furnace continues to function. My Grandfather worked for Merrill Gas in Brattleboro, Vt many years ago. Sometimes I would accompany him on emergent service calls on the weekends. Sadly, those days of top notch, respectful, customer service by competent individuals are long gone. Not so sure my employer discount is worth the hassel. read more

We have had a HORRIBLE run-around with this company this winter. One month ago we scheduled an oil delivery when we had half a tank left. They kept rescheduling over and over until we were down to three gallons. They promised we would have a delivery that morning and had marked it as an emergency. We called several times to confirm, and every time the person on the phone said they couldn't get through to the truck but would "send them an email" to let them know we were a priority. Zero communication from anyone from the company, despite them telling us that someone would be in touch by phone soon. The following day with still no delivery (we're pouring diesel in ourselves gallon by gallon to keep the pipes from freezing) they say on the phone that we are now scheduled for the next day and they don't see any record of emails being sent to the truck since last week. This isn't just bad business, it's profoundly unethical. read more

DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY. We were scheduled to close on our house and on the morning of the closing the buyers on their walk through discovered that there was no heat. This was despite being on automatic delivery and having had Irving inspect and service the furnace over the summer. We tried to light the pilot with no success. While our lawyers waited we phoned Irving at seek assistance. Our phone was routed to someone in Canada and then to someone in New Hampshire only to be told (quite dismissively) that there were many emergencies and they would get to it when they could. They would not give any time frame. At 3 PM a technician showed up to tell us that we were out of fuel and they could not reassure the buyers that the furnace was working until fuel was delivered which at the earliest would be the next day and it would be a minimum charge of $300. The buyers called another local propane company at 3 PM and within one hour a technician was there and resolved the problem. If in an emergency you want a run around, lack of empathy and corporate rules this is your company. read more

6 months and they still cannot complete the job they have been paid to do. They have caused many thousands worth of damage to our business. But instead of apologizing or simply doing their job....the tech shows up full of insults and gossip, peering in the windows of our outbuildings like a creep, throws a tantrum when he can't troubleshoot properly, ran his van over a planter in our lawn in a rage, punched a huge hole in our sheetrock, and then after not fixing anything they send us a bill for a part that was never installed and maintenance that was never done. AND they called the authorities on us for legally keeping baby chicks warm in our living room. The work was supposed to be done under a maintenance contract that the previous owner paid for and transferred to us when we moved in. But here is the most psychotic part: I called the corporate office of Irving Oil in Canada, and manager Margy Henderson claims that the reason they actually called the police on us for the charge of "too many animals" (even though we are registered with the state as a legal farm) because "I answered the door very upset without my pants on, and that I asked the oil tech to help me find my pants". I explained that I have recordings of every encounter and conversation, and that when the techs arrived they did not come to the door at all, because I walked out to the driveway to meet them. It can be heard clearly in the recordings, that I was very cordial and one tech complemented me on my full length coat (that I was wearing over clothing including muck boots because it is darn cold and snowy here). So obviously they are lying and attempting to "gas light" me, because they know my husband is out of town. It is entirely legal to record any conversation you are part of. The district manager, Mike, admitted that they made up the "pants off" story. When he found out that I recorded all conversations with them, he started panicking.
