I have had almost identical experience to JonWasey below. My iPhone 3GS had a short battery life so I looked into getting a refresh done. I came across iphoneipodrepairs, read the reviews which were 95% positive. What's more, I thought the 20mins to repair at work would be great. I can't remember all the names involved (they are written on a piece of paper at work) A young chap came to work (not at the time I had expected, as I had called to rearrange the appointment as I had a meeting to attend). The back cover was replaced, the phone turned on to check it was functioning, discussed jailbreaking a little bit, the old back cover kept and payment made of £100. Attempts to charge the iPhone was fruitless, the fit of the usb charge cable was very tight also, the vibration button was too recessed to operate and, more importantly, the sim card tray refused to pop out. So I called iPhoneipodrepairs and after several voicemails, unanswered calls over a week I eventually got a hold of someone. I explained that I was without my phone as the simcard was trapped inside, however the next available appointment was the following week. Kevin, the most experienced technician came, managed to eject my simcard and agreed there was some problem and he took away the phone, along with the old back cover, which I had given with the intention that he could put the old cover back on should there be some problem. A few days later, Kevin came to my office to return the phone, however I was in a meeting so he handed it over to my colleague. When I returned, my colleague informed me that Kevin had said it was fixed but that the screen wasn't working properly and had left details of another company with whom I could get the screen fixed. Due to the low battery condition previously, I used to turn the brightness of the screen down to zero to conserve battery life. So I instantly assumed that Kevin had mistaken the low brightness as a broken screen. However when I turned the brightness of the screen up, the dimness remained. I was astounded as the screen was working perfectly before.
Again, several unanswered phone calls to both the mobile and landline numbers, unanswered emails and voicemails, over a period of 1.5 weeks. I eventually spoke to a lady whose name I can't recall. She made a few ill-judged comments asking if I had dropped my phone in the toilet as they had that problem before. Eventually, she got Mark, the owner of the business, to call me. We discussed the issue; I insisted the problem did not exist beforehand as I had turned up the brightness of the screen in front of the first technician, whereas naturally, Mark denied they were to blame. I should point out that throughout communications, both parties were polite and amicable. It could be that the backlight coil gave up at the same time by chance, but I doubt it I was still unhappy with the quality of back cover replacement, as a rubber section had come loose so I asked for my money back and my old cover put back. Mark agreed to this, but said he would give £50 back due to overhead costs etc. I disagreed politely and after agreeing that I would come to their workshop in Brixton, he agreed to refund the £100. I made my way to Brixton the next day, handed over the phone to Kevin in a hard to find workshop (no google maps on my ancient phone) and got the £100 back. A few days later, I returned and collected the iphone from Brixton. The iPhone was replaced with some other back cover, as it was explained that Kevin could not find my old cover. This other back cover clearly had some problems as the phone would not stay on longer than 10 minutes before restarting on loop. I was unhappy with this as there was not much I could do.I had a local iphone repair repairman look at the phone over this whole experience and they questioned the poor quality of the components and the clearly rushed workmanship. So at the end of it all, after over a month, from having a phone which functioned fine, if rather wearily, I was left with a phone that had an unreadable screen and that would not stay on longer than 10 minutes. Various dealers on Tottenham Court Road and Queensway Computer market quoted me £0 on part exchange as the phone was now in such poor condition. If I had exchanged the phone in the condition it was before using iphoneipodrepairs.com, I would have got £80- £100+. I managed to get £30 for it on exchange. I really wanted iphoneipodrepairs.com to work out as it seemed so convenient. They seem a nice family business, but as the review above mentions, there seems to be an emphasis on getting a quick job done, rather than quality and service. At least at the end of it, I've learned how easy it is to use non-apple components and you wouldnt know any better. I can't recommend iphoneipodrepairs on this experience, sorry! read more
