I've read through the other reviews, and will say that I expected the PD to get an overall 3 or 4…read morestars on Yelp. Here's my thinking: 1) ++ Local writers provide a lot of the content, and seem to work pretty darned hard to capture interesting stories. Somebody's got to cover County Fairs, local government and a fair amount of sports; and they do it in a professional manner. True, it does seem at times they start with an opinion and the tune will always be the same; but that is also a fact of life with most national and local papers. Everybody has an owner and an editor. 2) - + They can get caught in their "formula" of just rehashing old stories. I could write the local government budget stories by simply changing the dates; and tell you that this city council will get a good story, and the county will get a sucky story. But, they try, and local papers' budgets don't provide enough staff to assign a reporter full time like they used to do. The IJ still has an office in the Marin Civic Center, but Sonoma County hasn't had the Chron and PD desks for quite some time. 3) - - At times, the PD does not seem to listen and respond to readers. Comments via email to the editor about having to "log in" to an account just to read the online comments were just flat ignored. Maybe I should have written to somebody less busy, but did not know where else to go. Why does somebody have to login just to read anothers' comments? The posters are sometimes way out of line, but still howl that some comments (must have been even worse than their "normal") were deleted. 4) + + The outreach for more diversity on the editorial board and inclusion of more cultural happenings throughout the whole county is a huge plus. This only happens with local ownership and jouralists that care. It's a better "paper" for sure (getting over the website sucky thing here). Local sports is getting much better coverage for women and girls events. 5) + + Fresher content is delivered in more "quickie" formats that is sometimes valuable. Keep the pot blog as it's the same old same old over and over; but then the Bite Club is just flat out good and tipping me off to food finds, and the writer knows her stuff.

I have called and left messages for the press Demic to address the fact that Cps won't evaluate or…read moreinvestigate anything reported to them if someone is a part of a tribe there has been multiple reports to Cps in Ukiah but they won't engage in the investigation because the people are a part of a tribe and the tribe has been doing nothing but illegal fraud embezzlement of the casino that's why they were shut down and also fabricating court hearings and then not entering them into the system in a proper manner and due time also creating a legal mishap on situations but because they are tribe it seems like they are privileged to do whatever they want and children are being neglected molested and rape and no one is doing anything about it there is reports of sexual misconduct with children on the Hopland reservation of the band of Pomo Indians on Nokomis Road in Hopland California California this situation to be addressed by the people because it is unfair that there are individuals who have children with these people on the reservation and report misconduct to Cps and Cps won't do anything because the tribe shuts them down so is the tribe above all Californians and any Court do they run our country and are excluded from our laws which needs to be addressed especially this tribe in Hopland California the tribe of Pomo Indians

The Sonoma County Gazette is a helpful, free, local paper. If you want to know about an array of…read morecommunity events, this is the paper to consult. They often highlight local businesses, post their hours&locations- even reviews and recipes. They discuss local issues from the wildfires, to legal cannabis, homelessness, you name it. It's much thicker&less pretentious than the North Bay Bohemian. There are editorials based on specific communities, highlighting their concerns- Penngrove, Cotati, Sebastopol, Geyserville, Graton, Camp Meeker, Cazadero, Jenner- you name it. You get a sense of Sonoma County's diversity. The Sonoma County focuses primarily on "West County" (essentially, communities west of 101, tho they have Cotati&Penngrove) It's thick, colorful, with personable editorials, comprehensive calendars of local events. The only downside is that it's monthly rather than weekly. A great way to catch up on local events, activities, dining and shopping.

This is truly a community newspaper, whereas the unbohemian has just turned into an ad rag. The…read moreGazette is about 4 times as thick as the unboho, but only comes out monthly. Sure there's ads in here too, but at least there's some substance to it. We always find more things we want to do in 1 issue of the Gazette than we ever do in 4 issues of the noboho. I think that the Gazette is a much better reflection of all the communities in sonoma county than the boho is. Besides the events, we really enjoy the editorials too.
