The book shelves and tables all need out gassing and are a lesser quality adding to the toxic smell inside. The focus was on the exterior for which they spared no expensive and which acts as a shrine to the Architect. But libraries are used INSIDE. Bad decision on the part of City Council. Even the Librarians are made ill by the chemicals. The best part is them. We won't return due to the toxicity and a disappointing floor plan and interior.

There's an area for FLW books and info, but the rest of the library is like any other public library and offers lots of services and products. I really enjoyed the back room which had a small exhibit about the history of Chilean people in the area. The librarians were all so welcoming and helpful! As I walked around, many greeted me warmly and also were masked -- both gestures were much appreciated!

I meant to post this review a week ago…read more Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Ruth and Bilal, who both were behind the front counter. Both employees were extremely friendly, courteous and informative. I had some questions regarding Libby and Ruth, (Clearly a Libby Veteran) informed me I should physically go to Oakland and San Francisco to obtain library cards and add them to the Libby app. She also recommended if I was in the Los Angeles area to obtain a library card there. She didn't have to tell me this but she went out of her way to help me out and that was appreciated. Yesterday I went to Oakland and got a library card and added that to my Libby app so that it would expand my library and it did. Library's are so important and I can appreciate Marin County keeping the Fairfax location open as well as all of the other locations. Thank you both, Ruth and Bilal.

I was always impressed by how quiet it was- other students and patrons were always respectful and mostly silent. Making everyone check in and present their IDs made me feel safe and secure, which is always appreciated when studying in a public location. I loved the tables that faced outwards because there were some great views to take in while hitting the books. One thing to be aware of if you're not a student- the library does not offer guest WiFi, so plan ahead by setting up a mobile hotspot or preloading things on your device.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because my small-ish hometown in Connecticut has one of the best public libraries I've ever seen and is bigger and probably with more resources than all the libraries I've been to in the Bay Area (this is the third county I've lived in here) put together. The pop-up library at Northgate, however, gives me hope for the San Rafael Public Library. This pop-up, which opened in December, is housed in a small mall storefront. And yet, somehow, this little library manages to make the most out of the space. In fact, there are more spaces and activities for children to participate in than in the main library. For young kids, there's a small play area with a few toys, a reading space with bins of board books, and also a drawing table. For older kids, teens, and adults, there is a 3 D printer and a virtual reality station. This is really brilliant. Every time I've stopped by, I've seen teens come in straight from school to sign up for a time slot to use the virtual reality headset. What a great way to engage this age group! While the collection is only, as one of the librarians described it to me, a "browsing collection," meaning there are too few books for you to come with an idea of what you want, there selection is always varied and engaging enough for me to come home with something. And the first time I stumbled upon the space shortly after it opened, in just about 15 minutes I saw more than one person wander in and get a library card for the first time. I would love to see this space become permanent and expand.

The used books for sale are in racks next to the front door along with a box of DVDs marked free. When I dropped in, laying on top of the pile was the Big Sick DVD, great movie. I left it though. Don't even know where I packed away my DVD player, been years since I've used it. Right when I walked in, I noticed how modern, bright , clean, and organized everything was. Exuding welcoming vibes. To the right was the children's area. Open area visible and right in front of the librarian desk. It was colorfully decorated. Also further to the right is the art gallery room. Not sure if that's the official name, but it held local artist's art and the historical archive info. Plus there are lounge chairs to sit a spell and enjoy a good read. The room has a glass window making it visible to the interior of the library. I'm digging the open room layout concept. I browsed through the picture archive books dating back to the late 1800s. Pretty neat seeing the landscape of the past. Ooh the untold stories those pictures hold.

I've been swimming at the Homestead Valley Community Center pool for some years now. Since I don't…read morelive in Homestead Valley, I pay an extra fee for the privilege. It's worth every penny. The adult lap swim program runs from April through October. The water is clean and warm, and the outdoor pool itself is nestled in a valley with lush trees visible on every side. The lifeguards and staff are all very courteous and attentive to their jobs. The pool itself, during adult swim hours, rarely has more than two or three swimmers in the water. On many days I have been the only one in the pool. Lovely surroundings, warm water, nice people -- this is far and away my favorite place to swim in the Bay Area.
