Inverness Leisure Centre or the Aquadome has the distinct advantage that it's the only public pool in Inverness. There are two pool areas - one for the serious swimmers and the fun pool. The fun pool has a toddler area, a jacuzzi, flumes, wave machine and outdoor pool. There are loads of changing rooms including at least ten family changing rooms. It can get really busy at peak times and you often have to wait for an available changing room, but you can use the giant body dryer room thingy to keep warm and get you all dry (you can fit a family in it). The most cost effective way to use all the facilities in Inverness Leisure is to get a Hi-Life card - only £20 a month for the whole family. There is also a climbing wall in the building. read more

A fantastic sports centre, this features an aquadome with a competition pool, as well as a 'mucking about pool', and a sauna and steam room upstairs. Next door is the sports area, with a large hall which can be hired for badminton, football etc. read more

This is a good place to go to improve your fitness or to go to the Aquadome for a swim. The Aquadome is good for swimming except at really busy times so it's best to plan for the quiet times. The gym is great too and there is a large sports hall for all sorts of sports like badminton or tennis or trampolining. There is also a smaller studio for dancing or aerobic classes. Worth a visit, not sure about membership costs but if more than one person in the family uses the centre then membership can be cheaper. read more

I will speak just for the aquadome as I go frequently with my young daughter. It does sound rather contradictory to call this place an unchild friendly, child friendly place. I will explain, first off the parking there is a number of child and parent parking places, it does go un monitored and is very clear that given the lack of car seats etc, it is abused quite a bit!!. The second issue that I have is the unfriendly nature of the staff, a smile especially from the receptionists would not go a miss, I was shouted at in the car park by a junior member of staff after some confusion in a very busy car park, this was overseen by someone in a suit. Staffing levels at reception are low and queues can be quite large, I have found it hard to predict when it is busy. The third is (and visitors with young children beware) that only one child under eight is allowed per adult, this is not consistent (it does change at the weekend and it certainly appears to change at the holidays aswell). Please also note thatthe facilities offered (wave pool, flumes, lazy river) are unpredictable so do not go expecting that all will be offerred.Also whilst discussing children, there are a limited amount of family changing facilities and queues do form (again this is unpredictable). There are a couple of generic swimming pool issues namely that the speaker system is normally very unclear, furthermore why oh why are there not non slip tiles beside the toddler chutes? Dont get me started on the two year plus queue for swimming lessons!! It is the only public pool in Inverness, a half hour away in more luxurious surroundings is the Aviemore pool and despite the more limited facilities (ie one flume and no real swimming pool) it is head and shoulders abouve the aquadome. Inverness Leisure (IL) is a very good activity centre based in an area that is easy for most people in Inverness to get too. The price to get in is a little more than customers would hope for, but with a Highlife Card (which my whole family have) it is only 50p per person, which is a very good price. The Aquadome area of IL is perfect for people of all ages, with a toddlers paddling pool, a wave pool, a rapid pool and outside pool for families, along with two different water slides. There are also eight competition pools for the more serious swimmers. The gym area is very accommodating to both exercise fanatics and people looking to lose a few pounds. There are many machines including treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines, as well as weight machines, handheld weights, and even a running track. For the most part, the staff are very helpful and polite, they are very open to helping anyone and everyone who needs help, and the lifeguards are brilliant at looking out over the pools. The desk staff can, at times, be a little irritating, but mistakes in the computer systems are usually the cause of this. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a good swim, needs to lose weight, or just wants to have fun being active. A very fun place for all the family. read more

On arriving the car park is just about always full - simply not enough child/parent parking. When there are events on it is simply bursting at the seams. On occasion there is more than one event 'planned'. There are often queues at reception which when you have a baby or toddler makes it very difficult. There is only a small number of changing facilities - especially for families which means you are having to wait to get one. Sometimes there are no nearby lockers which is a nightmare when you have a toddler or baby. Pool is often far too cold for babies or toddlers. On exiting pool you are queuing for a changing cubicle again. Cleanliness of the place is simply awful. Dirt everywhere. Inverness needs another facility. read more
