Unfortunately, I missed an appointment for the very first time, and when I called to reschedule, I was told I would be charged a cancellation fee. They claimed they had texted me three times and that my messages weren't working, which is simply not true. I never received a single text. I asked them to send me another text while we were on the phone to verify whether my messages were working, but they outright refused. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they insisted they had contacted me and then told me they would no longer accept me as a client because I wasn't aware of their cancellation policy and because of their supposed texting issues. I also offered to meet in the middle since it was my first time missing an appointment and also because the supposed text messages were never sent (and the receptionist refused to try to send a text while we were on the phone) but she refused and informed me that I'm basically banned from the salon. I understand businesses have cancellation policies, but treating a longtime customer this way over a first missed appointment is absolutely ridiculous. Refusing to serve a loyal customer over a texting issue they wouldn't even attempt to verify is beyond unprofessional. After being a customer for so long, I expected much better. Very disappointing, and I would not recommend this salon.

I got fed up, went somewhere else, and was horrified when the extensions came out and I saw how little hair I had left. Growing this back out is going to take years. I'm extremely disappointed and wouldn't recommend her if you're trying to maintain or grow your length.

my daughter melia had her hair braided in august 2016 by fatou, and we couldn't have been more satisfied. the braids looked great, the process went by quickly as she had an assistant, the price was very fair, it was not in the least painful, and after taking the braids out 5 weeks later there was no damage whatsoever. we would recommend fatou to anyone, and her husband helped enormously, too, as we hadn't figured out the extension thing before arriving and he actually took us to the hair supply shop to pick them up, and gave us a fascinating oral history of liberia, to boot. really nice people! read more

I've been getting my hair braided by Fatou for almost 2 years now and my natural hair has grown so much it is almost surpassing the length of my micro braids (lol i still got few inches to go)! Her braiding technique is so great i'm able to keep my braids in for three months and still get compliments!! Shaama has made me love braids again!!!…read more I had a bad braid experience (REALLY bad) in the past, and although I loved having braids and twists, I was ANTI-braids and didn't get them in for many years from fear that I would have a lot of breakage, as opposed to gaining what my intentions were with braids: hair health, growth retention and having an overall protective style. Years ago, I went in major "bring my natural hair to life mode" because after having my first daughter, my hair and skin suffered greatly. Then again after second daughter's birth, my hair got very weak postpartum and I had major hair loss (not shedding...LOSS...bald spots and all). I was bummed, but determined to get my hair strong and healthy again. I went to a hair health specialist that I had gone to before having my baby, and I mentioned I really wanted to get braid but I would "never get them again" and told her of my disastrous braid experience in the past. Even with having heard my story, she recommended SHAAMA! Because I really trusted her, and she knew how dedicated to my natural hair health, I scheduled an appointment for Shaama to get some twists....let's just say she made me a believer in braids/twists actually being a protective style that benefits your hair! SHAAMA is: -very patient and willing to hear her client's concerns, goals and personal presences with their hair. I'm always asking a lot of questions regarding best products to use for my hair before, while, after braids and she is always willing to help me with suggestions -professional, great communication, prompt responses regarding scheduling -efficient and fast with install -very reasonable fees -most importantly: SHE INSTALLS WITH CARE AND FULL AWARENESS OF HAIR HEALTH SHAAMA's installs arent so tight that you have a headache for a week, or can't lay your head down to slee. Those little white bulbs that you might have seen where your hair has been literally pulled from the root?? NOPE! Not with here...when I take my braids out, there is very little shedding (just the small amount of natural loss that would've naturally come out). I know this is a loooong review. I rarely write Yelp reviews, and if I do, they aren't this exhaustive. But I had to share my full experiences with SHAAMA...I will never get my hair braided with anyone else. If you are wanting a TRUE protective style through braids/twists, I highly recommend her! Response to the owners response 9.7.26:…read more Just saw the owners response and she said I asked for the updated style a week before. On the screenshot you can see I asked in July almost 2 months before and then I followed up a second time a week before asking to clarify the rate and timing, and the biz owner asked for my name and didn't respond with the price 2x. I think an apology for a lack in response would be nice but it seems as though we're continuing to have a disconnect. As I said many times in my review the hair was great and her team was great, it was the communication where I think the business should take a bit of ownership for. Original review 8.30.26 Had an uncomfortable experience. In person she was super nice and her staff was talented. But there was a miscommunication on the rates. I asked for the rate of one style on text months before and she said $450. I shared another photo hair example and asked if there was a change in price and she didn't respond . Once she did my hair she said it was $250, and I ended up spending $825 total which is something I could not afford. We had only had text exchanges and the first style I asked about and she said it was 900 and I said "ee okay" and asked about more affordable ones so clearly I was price sensitive. After when I told her I was uncomfortable with what happened she said I should have asked again or looked at the website (which I never did, I got her cell from a friend so I didn't even know it was listed online). She then offered to give me the tip back and I said I don't feel comfortable with that because her staff deserves the tip, it should have come off the $250 that wasn't properly communicated. In conclusion since she won't refund me the $250 and she would only do the tip (which I won't accept), even if I can't afford this at all, I'm just gonna pay $825 when I expected $517 before I got there and never go back to her. And if anybody goes, only go if you aren't price sensitive and triple check prices before she starts Anything - as a small biz owner she said she's busy and not active on texts and I don't think that's an excuse at all, I'm a small biz owner and I do my best to communicate and set honest expectations with clients. This was a very difficult experience for me because the $450 with a tip was already a stretch but she was highly recommended so for the first time ever I was gonna pay for that. (Usually have paid under 200 as a circus performer with very low income). In addition i came in which the photo of what I wanted and she encouraged other colors and changes to the style which is fine, but it felt like she didn't want to do the full style I thought we had agreed upon. On the photo there's two braids in the front and she said not to do it because it looks better and I said maybe 3x I need it because my face doesn't look good with a face frame. She just seemed annoyed with my requests even though it was on the photo I thought we had agreed upon Again they do a good job, just set clear clear expectations from the start and I hope you don't have my painful experience that I had.
