I recently moved to this surgery in the last 6 months after being very unhappy with my previous…read moresurgery. I have found the team at BHWC to be fantastic - yes it can be a bit of a wait if you want to book an appointment in advance, however if you call at 8.30 in the morning you can be seen the same day. The drs and nurses here are very understanding and are open to not necessarily always taking a medicinal approach to any issues or ailments - this isn't to say they are a bunch of hippies! But they look at every option. I have to say I'm very pleased so far.

I had a rather nasty viral infection and needed to see a medic rapido (well, sort of). Ok the whole…read moreexperience lasted for a few days and being poorly didn't help at all. The walk-in service I nailed after a couple of visits. Also, the receptionist did tell me how long the wait was to be seen each time. Most of them are nice, just been unlucky one time when one of them was very upset about a challenging client. The nurse who has seen to me was very efficient. She advised me to go to A&E. Then another day, I had an appointment to see a doctor (whoop!!) and that was a very sour encounter. He was rude and obnoxious asking me what's wrong with me. All I wanted was a sicknote! I didn't even have a physical examination. He was half quick to whip out that sicknote though. I know a good doctor when I see one cos if the nature of my job. Then I find out that he's just a locum (yeah boi!) so next time I can ask the lovely receptionist can I not be seen by that old quack again.

After a while I registered with the surgery, and to be honest my experience so far hasn't been great. Having a long term health issue it's important for me to see the same doctor so they are familiar and understand what's going on. However I'm not sure the Drs at this surgery stay on for very long, because over the course of about 18 months I have seen a different Dr every single time I have had an appointment here. Some have been nicer than others, some have been plain rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I am currently registering with another surgery elsewhere because I don't think the service provided here as a GP is good enough - also it never seems very clean and the building has deteriorated a lot since I started going here. Something always seems to be broken. As a drop in it's adequate.
I have been at this surgery for about 15 yrs now..I have seen some amazing DR's retire, but the…read moresurgery still has some amazing DR's and nurses there, Most are kind and compassionate, but due to the amount of patients registered here, it can be very difficult to get an appointment when you need one, I really only like to see one particular DR, but find that at time's...it is very difficult to get one with him,I do think that these DR's are over worked and it won't be long before something bad happens. They need more GP's there, or to stop taking on new patients. The receptionists can be blunt at time's too, but i suppose everyone is entitled to have a bad day.....apart from this, i am very happy with my DR's.
I used to be registered with this surgery until a few years ago when I moved away from Brighton…read more After returning here I registered with a another surgery because I was told that I lived outside the catchment area of the Park Crescent Surgery. I was not happy with the treatment (probably because the doctor was not trained to deal with the kind of issues I came there for) and found out that I could register with a surgery outside my area if I found that they were more sympathetic. I was very happy as I found out that the Park Crescent Surgery accepted new patients and were happy to re-register me there, even if it is a longer walk for me. The staff are always friendly and it is easy to tell that they enjoy their job (other than some pretty sour or 'pretend-friendly' receptionists which I have encountered at other surgeries). Most of my praise has to go to Dr. Lipscombe though, who not only always has an open ear for all my issues, but is also the most friendly GP whom I have ever come across and she always spares some compliments which brighten up my otherwise often grim days. She is a strong supporter of transgender rights and an expert in that field so I can't recommend her enough to anyone with gender issues, although I am not sure whether she is taking new patients as she now only works Mondays and Wednesdays. However I have also found the other doctors at this surgery to be very competent so it is worth registering there anyway (and don't forget that the staff are incredibly firendly too - it does make a huge difference!).

Of course the doctors were well educated professionals with informative knowledge, well placed advice and a caring character-they don't just let anyone be a doctor you know. Apart from the medical side of the practice (which is assuring), the real treat comes way of the episodic feel to the waiting room. Although a place of ill health by its very nature, the comradery and jovial spirit around was surprisingly easy to become a part of.

The NHS foot clinic was pretty poor for my particular foot issues, but if you go for a Chiropodist outside the NHS, ring and check that they are trained in foot surgery as this will hopefully ensure that they will be pretty decent.
