We thought he would be interested, so we decided to try this school out after having seen information about them online. The school is now owned by Mr. & Mrs. Evans, who purchased it from the Larys about two years ago. They used to have two locations (this one and one down near Holly Springs) but have decided to close the other location for various reasons. Shortly after my son started taking classes, his (then) two-year-old sister started begging us to let her take classes, because she saw how much fun my son was having. She started their Tiny Tiger program shortly after she turned three, and has loved it ever since. Now, my wife and I have both become sucked in as well and are enjoying going here instead of maintaining the gym membership that I had down in Alpharetta. Mr. Evans is the head instructor and Mrs. Evans generally handles the office side of the business. They do make use of a couple of student instructors, particularly for larger classes. My biggest complaint is that it does seem like the prices are perhaps a little on the high side relative to other schools, but I am not sure how much of that is because of their overhead costs and how much is due to simple choice on their part. Either way, I do feel that the school is a good value for the money.

I've known the TONG DOJO since I was a little guy in Brooklyn, N.Y. I went there from 8 years old…read moreto 13 years old. My Sensei's were George Cofield and Thomas Lapuppet. They were the BEST Sensei's. We did tournaments, shows, exhibitions and in house competitions. We had the best students with the Twins and a few girls in our class who, if you want to challenge them, you'd better think twice. My best memory of the TONG DOJO is when Sensei Cofield would show the class some new moves, we would run through them a few times and then he would ask us "Got it?", the class would say Got it!, Sensei Cofield would answer back "Sho' Nuff!". The Movie "The Last Dragon" is loosely based on The TONG DOJO and Sensei George Cofield. Sensei Thomas Lapuppet Was a Sensei at the TONG DOJO also. He was a NYC Police Officer. He always had his badge in his visor in his 1968 Oldsmobile Toranado. The car had all Electric seats, windows, mirrors, Leather seats and all the bells and whistles. It was one the best cars I loved to ride in. When I first started at the TONG DOJO, I got my first Karate Gi from Sensei Lapuppet. He donned me the white belt that I would start my martial arts journey with. He also gave me the TONG DOJO PATCH that went on the upper left hand side of the Gi. When I promoted to Green Tip, He colored the tip of my belt to signify my promotion. Sensei Cofield adorned my Gi with the TONG DOJO name written down the front of the Gi in Asian Style lettering. That's when I knew I was part of the TONG DOJO. I miss the TONG DOJO but will never forget the experiences I had there. Next time I am in Atlanta I will visit the TONG DOJO. SEE YOU SOON. As a family with multiple children, we occasionally face unavoidable scheduling conflicts. When a sibling's performance overlapped with a practice, I asked about a make-up option. While I was allowed a one-time exception, I was told their policy only permits make-ups if the enrolled child has a school conflict. When I followed up with a manager, hoping for a more solution-oriented approach, I was told they'd discuss this policy further with their staff. Which alluded to that fact that they are planning to draw a harder line on this issue rather than attempting to find a suitable resolution. That's the opposite of what families like mine need. That policy doesn't reflect the reality of families managing more than one child. Important family events--like supporting a sibling--are just as valid, and this approach forces families into unnecessary tradeoffs. A more flexible make-up policy, even with reasonable limits, would go a long way. Supporting families should mean supporting the whole family unit, not just one child in isolation. Programs like this build loyalty when they recognize how families actually function. Adjusting this policy would make a meaningful difference.
