I was skeptical because he didn't go very deep inside the attic when he first visited, but he saw enough to know what needed to be done; definitely comes from experience. His recommendations were so different from the other bidders, that I needed to do research and ask other experts in the field to confirm his recommendations. His recommendations were on point with the science of attic ventilation. The other bidders usually saw 1 of the 3 things he observed. I do not have to run the hvac equipment as often and the amount of dust in the air is a fraction of what it was (foam seals off air movement). We hired Affordable Insultation to clean out, air seal, and blow in insultation into our attic. We…read morehave a vaulted ceiling in part of our house and a complex roof system with several odd voids/passages. We did a lot of research and got multiple estimates. Affordable Insulation used the tried and true materials and techniques we felt comfortable ultimately. And concerns with spray foam performance/materials aside, Affordable Insulation provided a much higher R-value with complete air sealing of our thermal barrier at a lower cost than any spray foam contractors we spoke with. Quote: Jake came out the day and time he committed to for the estimate and went through every space he could access and provided his professional opinion on the needs for the home, and what upgrades beyond his minimum recommendation we may consider if we really planned to stay in the house for a long time. He ultimately did not recommend any of the "upgrades" beyond getting our thermal envelope up to R-38, but we chose to have him clear out the old, air seal, and blow in R-50 over the top. The Work: Work was completed in a day. The entire team was polite and professional. Without me even asking for this, they warned me before they turned on any loud equipment because they knew I was working from home that day. They took photos of all the work during the sealing process to prove it was complete prior to blowing in the insulation which they also took photos of, for the same reason. They also took the time to physically show me any of the work I wanted to inspect as well. They made sure that the soffit was properly ventilated with vent panels prior to adding insulation which was very important to me. Results: The work was completed right before we received over 4 inches of snow overnight. Our heater has been running less and we do not feel drafts nearly as much throughout the house. We were so pleased with their work that we recommended them to our parents who had the same work done (air seal and blown in) less than a week later. And because of that work, my parents' neighbors also hired them to blow in additional insultation on their home. If I ever need additional insulation work, I wouldn't hesitate to call Affordable Insulation.
