Definitely not your mom's yoga classes!…read more 1. Cute studio very close to Vila Madalena's heart, it's in VM but not in the heart of it, which makes it even better, for parking, not overly noisy. Actually no noise at all during classes. 2. Temperature is kept at 40C/104F at most times, making me more bendy. Since I love the heat, I didn't have any discomfort, have brought friends here that were not used to, they first felt it was rough but after one or two sessions they enjoyed the temperature. 3. Teachers are awesome! Have taken classes from Amanda, Alexandra, Stephanie in English, and Andrea which IMHO is awesome, intense classes and good attention to detail. 4. Parking situation is easy on most times, Saturdays since there is a street farmers market, it can be tough, but no fret! There are a parking lot right across the street which charges R$8 per time and not per hour! 5. Lockers in the bathroom! Bring your own lock and a towel since they have nice shower boxes! 6. Fridge is packed with goodness: fresh cut fruit bowls, a variety of kombutcha flavours, cold water bottles. Also, there is drinking water on tap! Why not 5 stars then? I wish teachers would communicate better in how to land in to some positions, walk through each step carefully, be more detailed oriented, tell us the benefits of each asana, point out options instead of correcting poses for injured people. Also expand their variety of classes, would love to see more vinyasa classes. But overall, this is a great studio and much better than high end gym's in town. Plus they have a R$ 99 introductory plan for 20 consecutive days! Can't beat that in SP!

Absolutely love this studio. I practice vinyasa daily in California and haven't found a studio that…read moreI feel so comfortable in since traveling! Great daily classes. Lots of Birman and other mixes that they've come up with themselves. Really great staff and accommodating to me seeing as I don't speak Portuguese.

Walking down Fradique Coutinho, Gam Yoga is a storefront you might easily pass by without noticing…read more Out front, there's just a small window with a logo and palms and trees slightly blocking the path towards the back of this yoga shelter. But, if you tread up the pressed dirt steps, you'll find a humble retreat where city-dwellers escape the noise for a few hours of body-bending heaven. The rustic, but perfectly clean, respite offers a host of different yoga classes (from ashtanga to vinyasa to a newer concept called free yoga) and they even have capoeira, massage therapy and other body healing practices. We stepped in for the Sunday 12pm ashtanga class with Miguel (a calm and talented yogi hailing from Mozambique). With about 6 other people in the room, we set up our mats and began Mysore. Unfortunately for me, this wasn't a lead class and Miguel had to spend a little more time with me showing me how to properly perform certain poses. Meanwhile, the rest of the class went on with the series unaided by Miguel (until he stepped in to help them with adjustments). Portuguese was spoken the whole class, but Miguel speaks perfect English and Spanish too (in case that might be a concern). If you're looking for a lead ashtanga class, André might be a better option, since Miguel mostly does Mysore. The center also does something called Yoga Surf Camp (lead by André) where you spend the weekend at a nearby beach practicing your poses and hang-ten ability. I'll certainly return to Miguel's class (perhaps while mixing in some of André's lead classes to better improve my knowledge of the poses). A great refuge overall.
