Both of my sons ( 10 and 14 year old) took part in a focus group to test out a new reading app. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly employees who took us to a waiting room. The group started and finished on time as promised. The office interior is very pleasant and the location couldn't be better ( 1 minute from Powell Bart Station). Their office is very conveniently located just off Powell Street Bart and is clean and modern with a pleasant ambience. The study began right on time and was actually a really interesting experience. The chosen group was intelligent and held a thoughtful discussion on the topic at hand, and our moderator was kind, patient, and made everyone feel comfortable. There were snacks and other refreshments as well. When it was done, they handed us our compensation and thanked us for our time. I was "recruited" by a polite young man while browsing with my daughter at Westfield Mall. He asked me a couple preliminary questions such as my shopping habits for girl clothing, brand name preference etc. All I provided was my name, e-mail, ph number. He gave me a card with the office info and let me know someone should contact me within 24hrs. All I would need to do is answer further questions in order to qualify for the focus group. A couple hrs later I received a call. I was told all my info would remain private and only be used by product developers to assess their target market etc. I provided my age range, household income bracket and race/ethnicity. A day before the event I was sent an email to which I RSVPd. Showed up on time, signed in and sat in with the other participants (4). Janet was the moderator, we discussed various aspects related to a clothing line, there was a person reporting everything that was said, a two way mirror, a video camera and a group photo was taken at the end. Very relaxed, informal discussion. I gave my honest opinions about the product (neg or pos). The interview/discussion lasted 45 mins. At the end I was given an envelope with $100 and was on my way. Have you ever been greeted on the street while walking through downtown San Francisco? Of course you have! I was greeted by Matt who was not forcing himself to ask if I'd like to earn some money for participating in a focus group. There's 1 star. I've heard of the general idea of focus groups before & became intrigued as to how it worked since a lot of major companies rely on focus groups to further their brand's reach. Anyway, I had minutes to spare on my way to work so I figured I could answer his pre-qualifying questions about the city I live in, contact information, age group, etc. then be on my way. Simple questions to potentially earn a couple more bucks, right? A few hours later while grabbing some grub with a friend, I received a call regarding my participation in the focus group & at first I thought I might not be able to participate because the date & time wasn't completely working with my schedule but after a few moments on hold, they completely worked around my schedule so I could participate. There goes 2 more stars! Now, it's about a 5 minute walk from the Powell St. BART station (it's pretty much a block from the awesome cable cars) so it's easy to get to. I did get a little confused trying to find it because the entrance is a little small but it was right next to the MAC store (you know, that huge makeup brand) & luckily they also had a table out front with some of their associates so again, easy to spot. Immediately, they knew that I was a participant for the study. You go up the elevator & once you step out, you're immediately greeted. There goes 1 more star. That's 4 if you've been counting. We were lead into what I'd like to call a staging room where they took a few minutes to explain how we'd be participating & received place cards with our names on them. The purpose we had been there for was eyewear & to evaluate a specific company's advertisements & overall target. Extremely easy. We were then lead to what I then call the research room where we sat around a table with our place cards. We were given pictures to look at & statements to read then discussed what we believed their relevance or irrelevance was to the company's target. We spent about 45 minutes in that room but it only felt like 5 minutes. It was a fun way to contribute my thoughts which could potentially help that company's marketing & outreach plus earn a few easy bucks. Which gives them their final star. So yes, this is a a 5-star company from beginning to the end. They are very open & straight-forward with you. They're easy to get to. They're so friendly & very helpful. Plus, you have fun & get some easy money for your opinions. I highly recommend giving them a shot. Good job, IIL! read more

I did a focus group here for office managers and it was the easiest $100 I've ever made! The office is on Powell street just a little ways up from the Bart station. The offices and receptionist are very nice. When you walk in, they put you in a little waiting room until everyone in your group arrives, and then you go into another room with the curator who asks you questions. There is a double sided mirror which was a little odd to think about having someone watch you, but once you get going, you won't even think about that. I would love to do another group because not only was it fun giving my opinion, but I met two other awesome managers in my area and got paid for it! :) read more

Do not trust this company nor give any answers during initial phone conversation. I was invited to come in for a focus group for compensation and I agreed. The rep proceeded to ask me questions, I answered. Then I was told I would receive an email confirmation providing the date, time and location of the focus group, It never came. I called numerous times the day of the focus group and the phone was never answered. Really felt like they got what they wanted during the initial conversation and then pulled back the opportunity for compensation. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY AND GIVE ANY ANSWERS WITHOUT PAYMENT FIRST! Learning experience for me that's for sure. read more

Terrible customer service. Falsified the promises for compensation and length of time. Caller # 1: We'll pay you $120 for a 90 minute phone survey on your experiences with transit companies in the city. Naturally I agreed because this seemed like a good deal. Not once did the caller specify that the survey was actually in person nor that there would be a 20 minute screening on the call which he began without really asking if it was a good time or not. I told him to please call back, when another person called to tell me the survey was actually in person after she spent 20 minutes on the phone asking me questions. Caller # 2: You must come in person and we have 4 time slots available for you. I pick a time slot, because now I've invested time and want to get paid. Caller # 3: I'm sorry that time no longer works and we'll be unable to accommodate or compensate you for your time spent. We'll call you back if something opens up. So that just happened. No apologies or we can compensate for the time spent where I've already answered a lot of questions for them. My theory is that's all they wanted and once they got it, they pulled out of the promise of compensation. My bad for trusting an unprofessional company like this and for LYFT for choosing them to conduct a study for them. read more

Instant Insights Labs was my first experience participating in market research and won't be my last. Our research group was really fun. It was interesting to hear what other consumers have to say. The company personnel were very hospitable and friendly. Instant Insights also seems to have excellent customer service, as I was guided gracefully through the process by one of their agents. The study group took notes and asked all good questions.. i educated them on high volume, delivery, data entry, credit card processing and daily Restaurant Operations from a NYC prospective. They seemed to be intrigued with how the pieces work and what makes all moving parts function; from server entry at p.o.s station, to expediting food tickets when plates are ready to steps of delivery platform process..
