Amazing food! Everything is always beautifully presented with kind and prompt service. This is one of my favourite spots in Sheffield.

Sheffield has these little gems in abundance it seems at the moment…read more The Lucky Fox has a rustic, chilled out feel as per the usual with hipsters. I had the club sandwich, usually that means BLT - but not this was something more special; bacon, cheese, chicken, lettuce, tomato and Parmesan fries. Wow. The beer was a bit expensive, 4-5 quid for a can of something American (Brooklyn, Sierra Nevada etc) - but given the environment, it's not a begrudging purchase. Go there, order the chicken or pancakes and rejoice - don't order poached egg and watercress like my girlfriend, she had serious food envy over mine!

Everything from the décor to the beer selection to the bizarre (and admittedly delicious) Lucky Shake does indeed scream Williamsburg. They're open all day, but brunch seems to be what they do best. I enjoyed my waffles and fresh fruit, which had a pleasing cinnamon flavor. I don't like whipped cream much, so I was happy to find out that it comes on the side. My friend had good things to say about her smoked salmon bagel, which came with a solid inch of salmon. The coffee is nothing to trek across town for, but is reasonably priced for the quality. Feeling adventurous, my friend and I decided to go for Lucky Shakes after polishing off our breakfast trays. What a wild ride. Whipped cream, hot fudge, fresh strawberries (see mom? I eat fruit), a donut, and a strawberry milkshake....needless to say, I only had about a third of it before giving up, but what a flavorful third it was. Man, I really need to start eating vegan again. If you're coming here for the novelty of the shake, go light on the food - it could be an entree on its own.

Yesterday was pancake day, I received an email from bills about their pancake party, I had to go!!!…read more I phoned up for a table for 3 people at 5.45 to 6pm but was told they were fully booked until 6.30pm! So I left it. My colleagues and I walked into Sheffield from our hotel, deciding on cafe rouge as they have crepes on the menu but thought we would try bills for a table as its only next door! We saw lots of empty tables, asked the staff for table for 3, they said yes!! My colleague asked why we couldn't get a table when we phoned up, to be told they keep some free for walk ins. Meal was fine, and we ordered the pancakes as dessert, the waitress was knowledgeable in explaining what each pancake consisted of! Plus have suggestions for cream and ice cream to one guy. It's a nice restaurant, which is a chain, slowly opening in different cities as they opened in Birmingham now!

So after the debacle at one of the Bill's in London, I kind of stayed away for awhile. I know…read more.. not every location is the same, but sometimes you are really just put off by the memory. However, I was putting together a day of team building, with lunch to get out of the office and also get to know each other since this would be the first time we would all be working in the same office. I scouted the area we would be in, so we could just walk and not have to worry about public transport or driving and Bill's seemed to be the restaurant that was most convenient, but also offered a wide variety of food that would cater to everyone. I booked online and even though we were a bit late, it could not have been easier! It was nice and cozy and had that rustic, market feel about it. We had hummus and tzatziki with bread and crudite to nibble on while we tried to decide on lunch. For starters I had the Avocado, Bacon, and Spinach Salad, while the other three had the Crispy Lemon Squid. I don't know if they all planned it that way, but it was nice to see that clearly, they have something in common :). Everyone seemed to enjoy the squid and the salad was really nice... in fact it was so nice that I thought maybe I should have ordered it as a main. It is filling, but still quite light. For mains two had the Buttermilk Chicken (which looked awesome), one had the Kale Salad (which looked lovely, but I'm not a fan of raw Kale), and I had the Lime and Coriander Chicken. The chicken was a bit dry, but the flavor was wonderful! If anything they could do with serving it with some warm, soft corn tortillas and salsa. The sweet potato fries were a nice side, but if I am being honest, I don't remember the kale coleslaw at all. I remember there was a coleslaw, but nothing else about it. It was still a really nice lunch, although there were remarks about how it was a touch on the pricey side. Service was efficient and at the end when two of us stayed to have a chat, no one rushed us off, which was really nice. Overall, a great way to get reacquainted with Bill's.

First-rate real ale pub in Sheffield, a 15-minute walk from the city centre…read more Superb pubs in England are often to be found in the least likely places. In Sheffield, The Devonshire Cat is one (totally boring, anonymous neighborhood, see my review) - the much more famous Kelham Island Tavern is another. Calling its location an urban wasteland isn't too much of a stretch. Close by, btw, is another famous local pub. The Fat Cat. So, speaking as a real ale lover, if you're in Sheffield, you wanna go there. The selection of beers - from hand-pumped British real ales to European lagers - is very impressive, and the decor is by no means stylish, but cozy and intimate. There's solid pub food (not available all day , plus the usual selection of snacks from crisps to Scottish eggs. The staff are knowledgeable about the beers and friendly, too. If you need another reason to come out to Kelham Island, one would be a visit to the fairly interesting Kelham Island Museum, which is another 5 minute walk from the pub and focuses on the city's history of steel manufacturing - one of its attractions is Britain's biggest surviving working steam engine.

A Sheffield institution. A lovely pub that apparently can get heaving. Luckily this Sunday…read moreafternoon was not one of those time.
