There was a gentleman playing live music, there was a spot for you to lay out catered food and a spot for a drink cart. Parking was fantastic as well with so much available parking in a couple lots. I know this space is usually for plays and musicals but this opened my eyes to a much broader use.

It even houses a preschool and a wonderful consignment store. The productions produced by the Lakewood Theatre Company are always well casted, professionally done, and entertaining. I go to all of the plays there and have never been disappointed. The best part is, not only is it a theatre but a wonderful hotel when your power goes out for 8 days during a horrible ice storm. My family and I got to experience the luxury hotel of Lakewood while stranded from our home last week. My three cats, two sons, husband, and snake were warm and well fed by the large kitchen in the basement. We even had internet access which allowed us hours of entertainment on their large screen television. To keep from being bored I was even allowed to go into their office and answer phones. The only downside is that they do not offer showers but they have hot water and a large sink in the kitchen. Thank you Lakewood for housing our family. Please let me know if you find our snake. Every class in West…read moreLinn is taught by Kathleen herself and I've seen only joy and talent come out of her as a teacher! The mood is non-judgmental and kind. For the very little kids (under 5), it's less structured because they are so little and wiggly, but the progression as the kids move into ages 5-6, and then ages 6-8 is totally seemless and more structured as they age. If you're looking for strict scary or pushy, this isn't the place for you! Kathleen is hardworking and encourages the kids to be as well, but there's no undue pressure for perfection or mean disciplinary nonsense. It's just a friendly and magical place to dance and have fun!

Rising Phoenix Theater is a small community theater that I just happened upon while reading a local…read moreFacebook page. I saw they were doing their first play, so I decided to support their efforts. I saw A Company of Wayward Saints on March 16th, and I thought it was excellent!($12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.) The play was performed on a small stage in a church with very little theatrical "stuff", but they did a really good job with what they had. The acting was good. The costumes were topnotch, the set was clever, and the play was fun to watch. The program showed that they also do improv, so I went to that show, too. The improv show is called Spontaneous Combustion, and I saw it on April 5th. The ticket was only $7-- at that price, I figured I could take the risk. I was very glad I did. Such a funny show! It's the kind of improv they did on the tv show, Whose Line is it, Anyway? The players were hilarious! There was some audience participation, too. Just voluntary-- nothing embarrassing. The show started at 7:30 and went till 9:00-- lots of laughs and fun for only $7! The emcee said they did the improv shows about once a month, so I am keeping my eye on their Facebook page to see when the next one is. I'll be there! Support local stuff!
