It's the…read morepractical way of pursuing one's Dancing With The Stars dream, only in a much slower pace just short of a Dance Dance Revolution. From the fox trot to the tango, they've got it all. Classes are going to range from $35-50 per month / 5 weeks, which I think is a fairly good deal considering all of the dance instruction. Most people who I've encountered here seem very happy with the whole set up. Facilities are top notch as there is plenty of room to dance and rest along the sidelines. Though class enrollment fills up quickly, the actual onsite classes have just enough people to make sure everyone gets some bit of individual attention. The instructors here are super friendly and specialize in all sorts of different dance styles. Not everyone is born with twinkle toes, but they seem to do a great job in being patient and helping people get to where they want to be. Fear not solo visitors, they're also very good at pairing people with the right skill level. For those interested in taking their dancing to another level, this is a place to also train for competition. I've seen some photos of locals who are now professionals after taking their first dance steps here as a beginner. Whether you're a notice or a professional, this is an excellent place to learn. And if that's not enough, this is an excellent alternative to the gym for people looking to get fit.

After paying I was sent a packet of materials which included a list of this woman's rules. A couple of the more egregious ones follow: - your cell phone must be off but making audio recordings of class are encouraged for home practice. (I would normally use my cell phone for this task ) - you are enjoined from studying hula elsewhere. If you wish to leave this facility and join another you are required to ASK PERMISSION from the director of this facility to do so, and you are REQUIRED to wait A YEAR before resuming the dance. If you do not come to an in-person class when you were expected and do not let the director know in advance, you are not ever allowed to attend an in person class again. I ran afoul of this as in spite of leaving 2 hours prior to class as I was not able to find the studio in time. I don't blame them for my crappy navigation software, but I had no way to let the director know that I wouldn't make it because I was driving and trying to get there so I ran afoul of the rule against in person class attendance. I did not think I would be allowed to return and ask for a partial refund of the monies I paid. Her response was crickets. I have been in numerous dance classes over my life and have studied ballet, jazz, modern, middle eastern, Irish step dance, ballroom and Scottish country dance. Not once ever have I run across a list of (insane) rules or such harsh, inhumane punishments for human failings. There are abundant on line resources for learning hula and another school closer to me which I may check out but to be honest I'm feeling a little gun shy. Despite not being able to experience this school, the red flags in the packet leave me quite confident in suggesting you look elsewhere for training of this sort.

I was told I was going to get these items and I'm confused because everyone in class had received their items and they did not finish paying. Instead of receiving any of my items I was told to pay more. I felt left out as apart of your halau from the beginning. It's not fair or just for me to send you hundreds of dollars and not receive anything. I payed you my tuition diligently there is no reason for me to be treated as an outcast. Especially when we were told that the remaining of the balance would not be due until after I received the package from you. Even after you continued to reassure me that it was coming, I trusted you and continued paying your class fees on time and participating. I look forward to your response either by email or phone as you have not responded to my previous requests for a refund with a denial or approval. I will take this down if not this will stay posted. As for the public I felt completely left out by the entire school. No one helped me take care of this and get my uniform. I watch new students come in and receive their uniforms and costumes and had not paid fully and I never received mine. My review is to not attend virtually at all. The experience was different for those that are in person obviously. I had friends and family chip in and help me attend this school and they looked forward to seeing me in my uniform and kept asking about it and never saw me in my uniform. I attended virtual private classes and group classes and paid for essentials to be a part of the team. Hula classes are expensive. I do not recommend this school. If you are looking for a virtual halau look elsewhere.

I attended the Academy of Ballet and Dance Arts consistently over two years and part-time over the…read morethird year. I was a teenager and a part of the upper level ballet curriculum which included technique, pointe and a performance/variations class. I have also observed the younger students in class and can vouch for the quality of the training. The instruction that I received at this school was phenomenal. My primary teacher was Ms. Goldthwaite (the director), but I was also taught by a professional dancer with the Oregon Ballet Theater. When I first transferred to this school from another local school, my technique was rather dismal. Ms. Goldthwaite completely renovated and fine-tuned my technique. She is very observant and well-trained as a teacher, and she can see and correct even the most minor of errors. That said, she is not militant and is very kind, approachable, and a pleasure to work with. Furthermore, as a resident of New York City, I now frequently take class at a variety of well-known professional schools with renowned teachers. What is so impressive is that from the first class I took in NYC, to the last one I took today, every new teacher that I go to ALWAYS compliments my technique and my training. This is a big deal in a city where there are endless numbers of beautiful dancers. I owe all of it to Ms. Goldthwaite! This dance school may be small and developing, but it is completely worth it. You will get personal attention, work with the director herself, and won't have to deal with the administrative bureaucracy as at larger and more impersonal schools. I have been looking forward to enrolling my daughter in CVDA since she was born. They have always…read morebeen a good community member, raising money for non profits via their annual Nutcracker performance, matching in the Old Fashioned festival, volunteering and preforming at Tunes on Tuesday. Everyone has been so warm and welcoming since we started dance last month. My daughter has been hesitant and crying as the parents can't go in the studio with them. Courtney has been awesome and patient and this last week T finally went in without a fuss and stayed the whole time. Two weeks ago we went to her friend and Classmate Stella's birthday party at CVDA- they recently started having kid birthday parties there. It's was so much fun. Every day she asks to go to her party- which sadly I have to explain is only one a year.

That's not to say they don't have excellent training, they do - the instructors are talented, patient, and dedicated, and they have the trophies to prove it. Yet when you sign up for classes at CVDA, Kristen (owner) doesn't promise awards and scholarships, she promises your child will learn the skills necessary to be a positive, productive human being. Or as she puts it, "dance skills are life skills". As one example, they model positive contribution by actively serving and fundraising for the community every year. No business is perfect, neither can it be all things for all people. We have consistently found that if we approach Kristen with concerns, she listens, attempts to respond, and when necessary, follows up to enact changes. Her classes are rigorous, disciplined, and focused which is what my daughter wanted. Leslie uses the Royal Academy Syllabus from England, and the students are annually tested by judges. It is a demanding program, but rewarding for the serious ballet dancer. Leslie is so amazingly dedicated to her students and their progress! It is well worth the one hour drive we make to get there! As a woman of Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) and Greek parents, I was truly excited to see this production. It was well publicized on social media, so I shared out and encouraged friends to join me. It's opening weekend, and I attended the Sunday matinee to attend the opening speech given by Nimiipuu artist, Kellen Trenel, responsible for costumes and set design. His talents stem from generations of traditional beadwork, weaving, and design. The collage of personal, familial, and upcycled modern pieces were evident and truly added a special touch. The setting is small and intimate, but if I'd offer any suggestions, it would be to provide a mic for any Q&A. The story was comedic at times, and made you pause to really absorb the message. The ending packed a punch and brought tears to my eyes! Hats off to all who were involved in bringing this moving play to the area. Hillsboro is a beautiful town that I've not visited, but am glad to have had the opportunity to see more of the region.

My office is in Hillsboro and I live in Beaverton so this is truly a perfect location for me to see a show. The location is also grand when you consider how many great spots are available for getting food before the show or late night places for after the show. The parking is not ideal, especially if you have mobility issues. The parking is also not horrible - you will likely be a few blocks away so you are going to want to plan accordingly. Downtown Hillsboro does become a ghost town after 7pm so you can leisurely walk back to your car after the show. When you walk into the space it seems fairly small based on the lobby. This is just where you check in and grab some wine. The theater itself is a nice layout although you will want to be mindful to go to your right and sit far right if you are in need of a restroom a lot or else you may get stuck. There is not a bad seat in the house from what I could see. The stage and audience seating proximity is pretty perfect and the theater has a very open feel to it so I never felt cramped or like the air was stagnant etc. This is just a great place to see something unique. If A Clockwork Orange is any indication of the quality of shows put on at the Vault - I can't wait to see another show here.
