I especially love the variety of classes offered throughout the week. I love Amy's kundalini class. It's a treat to have kundalini classes available in Fitchburg. Katie's gentle yoga class is usually very balanced and perfect anytime of the day. Keith and Sean offer some awesome vinyasa classes to work up a great sweat. If power yoga is your speed, there's quite a few options to choose from also. I can go on and on about all of the instructors and how great they are... You'll have to go and see for yourself! The views over the prairie are really amazing and peaceful. The outdoor trail behind the building is really nice to stroll along before or after class. It's really nice when they open the doors on nice weather days to hear the birds outside. They offer mats and props to use for their classes. I like that there's a cafe to grab something to eat/drink before or after class. It's a vegan cafe with lots of options to fill you up. Sometimes, the classes fill up and I've been turned away multiple times. They do have an online class registration app that's handy to use. I suggest doing so to get a space in class.

Personally, I've been to the Fitchburg and the Middleton locations for other classes. Everyone has a place here and everyone's personal goals are honored, from fitness, flexibility, and strength-building; to social, creative, and mental wellbeing; to respite, refuge, and recovery. The studio hosts special events for mind, body, and spirit, such as sound healing baths, Ashtanga Authorized-Instructor Retreats, community Satsang, technique workshops, meditation opportunities, and fundraising events for local and global causes. My personal experience with Mala is through the introduction to Ashtanga practice with owner, Kat. This discipline of awareness of breath, movement, and gaze, is always available. Showing up on the yoga mat is not only a place that can bring you into the present moment and allow you to restore from life's daily challenges, but it also uncovers what is off the mat and helps you bring your practice into your every day. There are very experienced teachers teaching Anusara and Hatha, as well as a few other options. The teachers are very knowledgeable about yoga and therapeutics, and are comfortable working with a wide variety of ages, abilities, and injuries. Some classes feature a broad mix of ages and experience levels, yet thanks to very experienced teachers, the classes include everyone from beginners to yoga teachers, and everyone seems to be getting a lot out of it. The room is beautiful, with a worn wood floor, a view of the capital and tons of natural light. My own favorite teacher is Amie Heeter, who teaches "Hatha Flow" and prenatal classes. Amie is working on a Para Yoga certification, which uses postures, breath, meditation and other approaches. When I moved here from the bay area, there were many studios and classes to choose from, and it was hard to find what I needed here. I was used to faster-paced styles, but I quickly realized that Para Yoga was making me stronger, more flexible, and focused than I had been before. Many of the people at this studio have been coming here for years, yet the community is very welcoming. These are people who love yoga and want others to enjoy it too. If you are looking for something different than hot yoga, hope you'll come and try this out. I look forward to these classes every week.

I was very happy with my class. I'm from out of town and was in Madison for a busy long weekend, so…read moremy second criteria for finding a class was schedule. My first was a class that wasn't hot or really strenuous, and the Friday class I went to (Sage all level with Kristin Sage) was just right for me. The class wasn't too big, maybe six other people. We started out with the instructor reading a poem, followed by a gentle warm up. For all that most of the people in the class were probably retired, there were some suggested variations that were very difficult. The class ran over by about twenty minutes. Whenever I practice under a new instructor, I struggle a little with the cues and tempo. I periodically struggled with this class, but the instructor was very good both at elaborating the cues and providing quiet corrections. I enjoyed that the class was not silent--the instructor kept up an almost constant stream of description and encouragement. The space was airy, with some plants in the corners. If the class had been silent, the construction next door might have been a little disruptive, but it just added a bit of spice to the balance postures. I hope to be able to make it back next time I am in town.

They are knowledgeable and dedicated to the practice (I would like a bit more hands-on posture correction/adjustments). The unexpected bonus is how friendly and open the other students are. I've never been to another studio where the regulars actively engaged with newcomers. They made me feel welcome from the moment I unrolled my mat. I'm sold on Kula.

This is an outstanding Iyengar Yoga studio. The instruction is expert, the classes are small, and the atmosphere is quite friendly. The studio is bright, clean, and attractive. There is a reduced fee for members of the co-op (anyone can join) and you can also get a ten class pass. If you haven't done Iyengar yoga before it would be good to take a level 1 class or a beginner's series. Also, you will probably be asked if you have any injuries or issues when you show up for class. Don't be put off by this; it is not meant to be intrusive! The teacher will modify postures specifically for whatever injures or limitations you might have to prevent any further injury and to help you recover. The instructors here helped me work on my handstand! I am looking forward to my next work trip to Madison so I can visit the studio again.
