We just had a full service and the family showed a video. We had to sit on the side of the room and they didnt pull down the screen on the opposite wall, so many of us completely missed out. That was not cool. They have an area where the family can meet after the service to eat and talk. We just did a potluck and it worked out great.

I don't think that how bereavement works. so most of my family attending couldn't go. She was also a retired VET. So most missed out on attending her honorary Burial. All because you didn't get confirmation that a retired fed employee and retired vets insurance didnt clear yet.. (the ambulance that transported her to the hospital emts literally stole my grandmas purse and all her stuff so getting a dd214 for her military background was extremely difficult to acquire) and they were aware of this situation but didn't care Obviously. When the headstone FINALLY got there. The plaque was crooked!! And I looked around at others.. those looked fine.. then I noticed.. wth!? NO VASE?! That we paid for!... My gram was very good too you guys seeing and that you got around 40k for 2 funerals and Then absolutely disrespect her like that. I am so disgusted with not only your lousy service but the emts as well and rather be thrown in a landfill before I would ever use you again like you used my gram and my family. We decided to visit S&K in the north end of town and so glad we did. The facility was very nice and clean. The girl working the front desk greeted us promptly, and introduced us to Rick Osborn. It was very stressful being my mom lived in Arkansas, was passing in OKC, and was to be buried in California. Rick walked us through all the steps, gave us all our options, and assured everything would be taken care of. I reached out to a funeral home in California to handle everything out there for me, and that turned out to be a huge mistake. I should have asked Rick to handle that for me, but didn't think about that ahead of time. The funeral home I had been working with decided to drop my business 1 week before my mom's body was to be flown out there, 2 weeks before her funeral. I was stressed beyond belief, called Rick, and he had everything planned, finalized, and ready to sign an hour after I told him what had happened. Rick assured me everything was fine, no delays, and no stress needed. Easier said than done. But Rick is a man of his word. The pricing was great as well. He had asked why we didn't want to do everything in Ca when we first met him, and I told him everything in Ca is way more expensive. He was shocked at the price differences and how much he saved us. I am so glad I worked with Rick, he will not let you down. He'll even take your call or text on vacation. Well, he did for me anyways. Thank you Rick for all your help!

We had my Mom's funeral here yesterday. The family prepared a video picture presentation to be…read moreshown at the start of the service. I brought the mp4 file the day before to ensure that it would work with their AV equipment. Initially the picture on their 70" TV was extremely purple but the AV tech said he would fix it. We arrived an hour before the service to ensure that it worked and it did. Once everyone sat down, the AV tech started the presentation (audio but no video) then a second file ran on top of the first file (video with two different soundtracks). This went on for a few minutes until my wife went back to their computer and suggested pulling the flash drive and starting over, which worked. However, the screen was too small for the chapel and the picture was very faded, making it hard to see the presentation. As if that wasn't bad enough, the two recorded hymns during the service started off too soft for approximately 10-15 seconds before the sound was turned up. The only reason I gave Vondel Smith Mortuary a second star was because the funeral director and Christy were friendly and professional.

My father paid for 24 hour / 365 days a year availability but they were not able to discuss details with me after 4pm on Friday nor could they speak to me during the weekend bc they were "off". When I finally was able to speak to someone, she kept trying to charge more and more even though the policy was prepaid and I was informed I would have to pay $450 extra to have the funeral on the weekend bc they were "off". As I was constantly reminded, "We do not work weekends." People die on weekends and holidays and I guess these people do not know that. In the end, the funeral director told me I could just go with another funeral home. Nice customer service! In the midst of your sadness, it is the most unpleasant experience to deal with snappy and unsympathetic staff. I highly recommend that you DO NOT use this funeral home. They lack the tact and diplomacy needed in your time of sorrow.
