There are two options - go to the local supermarket and buy some bread and jam to make breakfast wherever you are staying or go out and buy breakfast. Option one is cheap but means extra cleaning up and packing and having to cart food around so in the interests of efficiency, we went for option 2. We are not usually Cafe breakfast people. Both of my sisters and their families seems spend their entire lives having breakfast or brunch at various cafes but we had never indulged. We tend to be toast or muesli at home people instead so we were quite looking forward to seeing what the whole breakfast out thing was all about. A week long road trip. Leisurely breakfast, cooked for us at a local Cafe each day. Sounds great. We wandered round Bendigo for a while and wound up at The Green Olive because the sign outside said omelette with goats cheese. The breakfast experiment was off to a good start. The food was really good. My son and I went the goat cheese and spinach omelette which was really tasty. My daughter had pancakes. My wife had rice pudding (like a warm rice porridge) with fruit. Servings were generous. Milkshakes. Tea. Lovely. Highly recommend the food, and the service. We were really getting into the whole Cafe breakfast thing when the bill arrived. The problem with Cafe breakfasts (at least when you have two hungry teens to feed) is the price. There was no change from hundred bucks. For breakfast. A hundred bucks a day. For breakfast. We headed straight for the local woollies to stock up on bread and jam for day two. Breakfast out will be a very, very occasional thing for us. It's fine for my sisters whose kids are of an age where they are happy (and full) from a slice of toast and a babychinio. So. If you are looking for a tasty breakfast in Bendigo, and know what to expect price wise, The Green Olive is well worth a look.

A cappucino to accompany, was ok quality but nothing special. I chose to eat out the front in a pleasant setting. I would have given 5 stars but my co diner had a pot of tea, which crazily didnt allow the leaves to steep, there were a few other things that could have used a bit more attention to detail. The value was good. on the whole a nice little place for a relaxed breakfast or lunch.

As you walk in this restaurant you see a special fridge where the steaks are dry-ageing. This also restaurant also trains other restauranteurs how to utilise these fridges to best effect. Steaks have an extra level of finesse to their flavour, above the standard I've had from capital city restaurants with a higher price tag. Quality of surrounding menu and wine-list to match. Service similarly good; standard varying from person to person. Several dinning rooms, all having a relaxed atmosphere. Quiet, though a little acceptable noise when busy, which naturally this establishment often is.

The towels rolled on the bed were also warm since they had put the electric blanket on. The room was excellently clean. Soap and shampoo on tap in shower (hadn't seen it in liquid form before - one normally gets it in small bars) Also liquid soap over vanity with tissues and hair dryer. Great overall feel of room. Toast, kettle and tea/coffee items and fridge. The staff were happy to give us an extra free Pura cold bottled milk when asked. Gave us more discount on cost we were told by Tourist Info centre. We were there in August of this year. Would certainly stay here and highly recommend. Not a usual budget motel. :)
