    Newmarket Tenpin Bowling

    Newmarket Tenpin Bowling

    Newmarket

I don't really go bowling much, in fact the last time I went bowling prior to this was 4 years ago…read morebut I actually enjoyed it. Sure it isn't flash but who cares, it is bowling, all you need are pins a ball and a lane and you're good to go. You sort of forget Newmarket has 10 pin bowling, the only clue of its existence is the sign on Khyber Pass road, the entrance is on York Street. You have to walk up these dingy concrete stairs that give you a bit of a workout but it is okay. Just don't breath because it is heavily scented with tobacco. The place is pretty big and not just bowling lanes, there is an arcade type area too and pool tables. There is a good amount of space between the bowling lanes making it good for groups too. Even though the place is old they do have electronic screens to keep track of the scores, no Flinstones system of a stone tablet and chisel. While Newmarket Tenpin Bowling isn't anything flash if you're just out to have a bit bit of fun with friends then what does it matter? You'll have a good time.

I won't even lie this place is absolutely fultht and disgusting. I don't even know where to begin…read morewith this place but ah my goodness it's yucky! If you want to enjoy your experience at this bowling place then you have to put hygiene and safety aside. First of all the lifts there smell like smoke, I can't imagine anyone smoking in a lift so I will leave the stench to the patrons of the bowling alley. Whatever the cause of the smell is, the owners of the place should make an effort to at least do a clean up once every week . Secondly the bowling shoes are rather old and smelly, once again cleaning and buying new shoes in something the owners should look into. Thirdly this place is dark and dingy. I wouldn't be surpr if any dubious happenings took place! Last but not least it is not a mistake if your bowl and then the cones don't come down. Seems like everything doesn't work or is just old.

I know it's called a War Memorial Museum and there is a section dedicated to that topic. Beautiful…read morehalls and displays of remembrance. However, it shows so much more. Actually it can be quite confusing. The are halls, corridors, several floors, rooms dedicated to various themes and you can get lost in there. Not that the museum is really huge, but the the rooms interconnect in some way that defies rhyme or reason. Still I enjoyed my stay here and especially the Maori experience. Very educational as well as entertaining. Please follow the performers' requests as this is a cultural experience and you should be mindful. I highly recommend it. There was also a shark exhibit going on and some sort of student activity while I was visiting. This place is a hodgepodge of all things Auckland and New Zealand in general. Perfect for folks with a short attention span, because there is something new and different around every corner.

Known as the war memorial museum, this place was much more than that. I'm used to museums with a…read morespecific theme and this was a hodge podge museum, filled with quirky collections of indigenous, historical war, science and other miscellaneous items. I am quirky, so I really enjoyed my visit here. The first floor was about indigenous Māori history and other Polynesian islands. The second floor's theme was natural history and the third floor was war history (Māori, World wars) and memorial dedicated to those who served from New Zealand. I spent about three hours looking at all the exhibits and displays. In another lifetime, I worked at an aviation museum and I was astounded to find an intact Zero plane here. With less than twenty in existence, to actually see one in person with actual World War Two history was the highlight of my visit. The museum has two eateries that's pretty decent in price with nice sitting areas to enjoy. The gift shop had original items I didn't see anywhere else on my trip. The museum is free to NZ residents but visitors have to pay admission. It's worth it to pay and visit here atleast once in your lifetime.
