The full name of this school is actually:…read more Lycée-Collège International Honoré de Balzac It is both a collège (6ème to 3ème) and lycée (2de to Terminale). This is the only public (state) international school in Paris and certainly worth mentioning. My eldest daughter graduated from this school (6ème through Terminale) last year and my youngest daughter currently attends. I was the President of the Anglophone Section's Parents' Association for 5 years. I love this school. There are currently 6 international sections (Ara, English, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish). The students follow the standard French school curriculum and school system as any other collège or lycée student would. However the International students also have 6 to 8 hours a week of classes in their language (language/literature class and history-geography) in addition to the normal curriculum. The students therefore work a lot and spend quite a lot of time at school. At the end of collège the students obtain the standard French Brevet as well as the International Brevet. At the end of lycée the students obtain the standard French Baccalauréat with the precious Option International du Baccalauréat (OIB). There are very active parents' associations for each International section. In comparison to the private international schools in area there are two major differences: price and policy. As a French state school Balzac is entirely free. However, as a French state school, Balzac is also susceptible to all of the other aspects of a French state school which include a much higher level of teacher absenteeism, teacher strikes and the other various events which occur at French state schools. For many of us the most valuable aspect of Balzac is the variety and mixture of the students. The students have origins from all over the world and come from all levels of the socio-economic spectrum. I repeat: I love this school.
