IndyVolved blew me out of the water! Working for Yelp, I've gotten to work with a good chunk of the organizations that were present, but I was so surprised how many were still new to me that I got to meet. I also loved finally putting a face to the name of so many people I've talked to over email, but never gotten to meet in person yet. There were tons of non-profits and local organizations on all five floors of Central Library, and all seemed to have people at their tables at all times of the night. We absolutely loved meeting so many people eager to get more involved in the Indy scene and made SO many new friends out of it too. Everyone was so friendly and open, and we're super excited to be back here next year! Highlights for me were writing postcards to new Indy residents with Downtown Indy, learning about the Big Brothers Big Sisters (newly re-branded) programming (PS: they desperately need male mentors), seeing Drink Culture podcast recording live with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, sipping Circle Kombucha, meeting more of the team from the Damien Center, and from our table, passing out Newfangled Confections' delicious Frittle candy and chatting about the Yelp Elite Squad (everyone's invited). We can't wait to be back next year!!

Great event to showcase many options to get involved around Indy. Hosted at the Indianapolis Public Library, where all 5 floors had vendors/booths. Many opportunities for our reach, volunteering, and some local vendors. Really enjoyed it as I have been wanting to volunteer in some of my off time. Only feedback I have is I wish the booths were not right on top of each other. It caused everything to be so so packed and often times prevented people from getting in there and getting information. If there were spaces between the booths, more could circle around and listen to the missions of each organization. Aside from that, great event. Hope this continues to always have a way to get INDYvolved!

Pros: TONS of opportunities to get involved around Indy. I'm happy I finally got to check out the Central Library. It is a beautiful space! Cons: Very crowded and hot. Each level grew warmer and warmer as you made your way to the top floor. I also got stuck "playing cards" at the United Way booth. I felt pressured to stay and then provide my email address at the end. I really liked the idea of this event but unfortunately felt very overwhelmed. My favorite booths were the Circle City Kombucha booth and the Yelp booth of course : )

What a great way to get young professionals involved in the nonprofit sector. Working full time at a nonprofit, we all know the struggle that it can be to find people to volunteer and/or work for our agency. In comes IndyVolved - a great event that is a one-stop-shop for all things getting involved and giving back. There is a nice mix of local and national nonprofits at the event - a little something for everyone. The venue is perfect for the event as well - which allows attendees to move about freely and engage in deep conversation with the organizations without being bumped into one another and interrupted. To any nonprofit employees out there: get your org into this event. You'll be sure to find at least a handful of volunteers!

It was so wonderful to have so many community people in one room! All doing different things to benefit the city! The central library was a wonderful host site and it gave people the chance to learn that the library is more than just access to books.

IndyHub puts on a great event every year. I have worked the Azimuth booth the last two years and have meet some truly kindhearted people. My favorite part of the event is when I get to visit the other booths and see the great things all of the organization participating in the event do around the city and state. When you attend this event the biggest problem will be finding enough time to help all of the great organizations.

IndyVolved is one of my favorite events of the year! As both an exhibitor and an attendee, this is the most welcoming group of people around. I love seeing what Indy has to offer and learning of new ways to contribute to my community. This event is high energy and loads of fun. There are a great mixture of organizations in attendance- so there is something for everyone!

A great opportunity to meet the people & organizations doing good work in Indy. With hundreds of booths and thousands of attendees, there's a lot to learn and experience! Loved the special addition of live music scattered throughout the 5 floors of the Library this year!

I love the many different options that they have available, but at the same time, it might make more sense to have some activities that involved a lot of people (ie a bigger/better dance floor or something of that matter). I can't even begin to imagine how they go about this task! Adult Swim is a benefit event held at the Children's Museum. Only in its second year, someone decided the first year was a smash hit because tickets increased by $15 this year (or maybe that was the surcharge for cleaning). All tickets sold out though, so that's a good sign! I'm not really sure who the benefit was for though.. maybe some additional information about that next year would help raise even more money Unlike other events I've been to, this one didn't FEEL like the event was sold out. Lines for some of the food and drink tables had a few other people in them, but the event planners did a great job of making sure there were enough tables and enough room that everyone could have a good time. Really, the night was about being a big kid in the museum into the night, and everyone I was with had a blast! Here's hoping next year is just as great (and not about $15 bucks more expensive per ticket!)

This sculpture is the work of Timothy Schmalz, a Canadian sculptor and devout Catholic, who was commissioned by Roberts Park United Methodist Church to create this bronze sculpture in 2015. It also goes by the name Jesus the Homeless. As nice as it is, this piece is not one of a kind. There are a bunch of them placed all around the world, well over 100. The original was made in 2013 and is located at Regis College, University of Toronto. Other locations that you will find the sculpture include Australia, Singapore, Israel, South Korea, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Columbia and the Dominican Republic to name just a few. This sculpture is very realistic and detailed. Which brings me to a funny story. In October 2020, police in Ohio were dispatched to a report of a homeless man sleeping on a park bench. Ironically, this call was made within 20 minutes of the Homeless Jesus sculpture being installed. Yep, some called the police on the statue. I will admit, I had to do a double take to make sure it was not real when I saw it. And you are certain to be fooled if you are driving by. It should be noted the the sculpture in Vatican City has received the blessing of the Pope. The bench is about 7 feet wide and depicts a covered figure, assumed to be Jesus, laying on it. The only real identification being the crucifixion wounds on the figures feet. For the low price of 99.99 you too can have your own mini-homeless Jesus made by the artist himself. The sculpture is just off of the Roberts Park United Methodist Church parking lot and runs along Alabama Street. There is tons of metered street parking available in front of and adjacent to the sculpture. There is also a commercial parking lot directly behind it that you can pull into, get out and take a closer look too. I guess you could also do a safe and strategic slow rolling drive by and get a a half decent look, but I do not recommend that. You will not get the full effect of the sculpture. As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other sculptures, murals and attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. Brickhead3 and Viewfinders would be a great start.

This magnificent and stunning exhibit was a pleasant surprise to find right here in downtown Indy…read moreand a delight to experience. The lighting is low, the air is cool and the atmosphere is calming and relaxing. You can explore Michelangelo's Masterpieces from the 8,611 square feet Sistine Chapel ceiling which have been reproduced using state-of-the-art technology. I found it fanastating that Michelangelo reluctantly accepted this large tasks as he saw himself more as a sculptor than a painter. After only 4 1/2 years, the Sistine Chapel was opened with a festive ceremony on All Staints' Day, 1512. In 1536, Michelangelo was commissioned by Paul III who wanted a new design on the wall behind the altar in the Sistine Chapel. The Last Judgement was completed 5 years later and this Masterpiece is also on display. This Exhibit is brought to Indy by the same organizers who brought King Tut, Titanic and Frida Kahlo to the various cities through the United States. This spectacular exhibit is located in the old Carson/L.S. Ayres department store on the corner of Washington and Meridian Street with the entrance on Washington Street across from T-Mobile. You can easily park in the Mall Parking Garage, take the elevator to the main floor (by P.F. Chang's) on the corner of Washington and Illinois and take the sidewalk (east) to the entrance. The Exhibit runs through August 26th from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday through Saturday and tickets must be purchased beforehand online. Download the Exhibition's Audioguide from Google or Apple prior to visiting to save time. The app is included as part of your ticket and will give you access up to 60 minutes of additional award winning audio guide content. Be sure to bring your own personal headphones. After checking in, there's an overview of the exhibit you can watch prior to exploring plus it's on an endless loop so it can be viewed whenever you're ready. The artwork is laid out very well with a brief description by each piece and a QR Code to scan. Several small benches are located on the outside row so you can sit to enjoy these stunning works of art. I could list each of the masterpieces you'll see but words truly will not do each justice. I'll post pictures, which again, do not truly reflect their depth of beauty and emotional significance. One of the challenges we took to heart was to step into Michelangelo shoes and gain a new perspective on these famous works of art by studying them from the same distance that the artist created them. I can't even imagine how difficult that would have been. On August 25th and August 26th two Candlelight concerts (6:30 & 9:00 p.m.) bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical expereience to this exhibit. Enjoy the timeless sounds of Vivaldi, Bach and Mozart while surrounded by the incomparable universe of Michelangelo - all under the gentle glow of candlelight. Age requirements for the concert is 8 years old or older. Anyone 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Seating is based on first come first served basis in each zone. Merchandise is available, and affordable, by the exit. A few things you'll find is magnetics, programs, wine bags and glasses, laptop cases, 8 x 10 prints, tote bags and shirts. If you have an opportunity to visit the Michaelangelo Sistine Chapel Exhibit, go. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you enjoy this kind of thing. I hope to return for the Candlelight Concerts on 8/26.
