Hotel is alright. Check in guaranteed at 4 pm.....got to the hotel at 12 noon, really no exceptions. Friends at the Fairmont Frontenac was able to get in instantly when they arrived, I guess this is the difference between 4 and 5 stars. Customer service knew a big group was coming in, but only had one person at the check in counter, creating a massive line and wait time. Staff was friendly which was a plus. Hotel rooms are also relatively big and way bigger than other hotels in the same star rating or higher. A lot of conferences are held at this hotel and overall, I think that the service and hotel room was average and satisfactory. read more

The name sounds classy. The old world grey stone exterior of the hotel makes it look extraordinary from the outside. The interior common areas are quite nice too, but the actual hotel rooms, while clean, but were boring and lacked personality and art. PROS: -Decent sized clean room and bathroom, but dull. -Mostly convenient location near restaurants and bars. Short walk to the Old Quebec city quarters, Plains of Abraham, the Citadel, and Musee de Beaux Arts. -Friendly staff -Outdoor jacuzzi and indoor pool, neither of which I had a chance to use. -On site car rental with Ace Rent A Car. CONS: -At $716(Canadian) it still feels a bit overpriced for what I got. But the price was on par with the rest of Quebec City. I'd probably stay here again...but I'd shop around before booking again. read more

Solid three plus star hotel. It's a long weird layout. I suspect that the various wings were added on to over tim as the hallways go on forever. I had to change rooms with my aging parents as their room was a really, really long walk from the elevator. The pool is small but enough to keep kids busy. On the roof is two hot tubs that had a nice view. It seemed strange for a hotel to have two stand alone, above ground hot tube but thy function. Odd complaints - the tile between the hot tub and the pool turns to sheer glass when wet. I warned everyone and still wiped out. A rug or something needs to be added before someone gets hurt. Otherwise it's a real liability to the hotel. Also off the back of the main floor is a conference center type thing and the exit doors leading outside are not only closed but locked. Nice hotel in the heart of old Quebec. Close within walking distance of old town. The hotel is divided into A. B. C. D. sections. Can be a little confusing to find the elevator to your particular section where your room is located. They have an indoor pool and nice exercise room. Their library is lacking for books. I had a wonderful time here. The staff was very nice and helpful. I got great recommendations for places to eat and the local events happening. The view from my room was lovely and the area the hotel was located was very peaceful and calm. Being able to walk to the Old Quebec was a plus! The only downside was that the room was a bit small. Other than that, I had a great time and hopefully, I will have a chance to come back again. read more

Great place to stay since it was walking distance to almost everything we wanted to do in Quebec City. Particularly amazing during summer since it faces a large field that hosts music festivals and such. Probably not the most quiet hotel if you're looking to get away form it all, but it's the most convenient access to nightlife, etc. From our room, we got to see many concerts on the jumbotron and enjoyed all the music. Rooms are compact, but they do use the space well. Even though our AC broke down because of fires in a western region, the hotel staff were great and brought us a fan. Internet access isn't free, but a pro tip is that the hotel's restaurant doesn't actually cut you off after two sessions, so abuse the heck out of that. If you're more rules-abiding, you can use the two free terminals in the lobby. The hot tubs on the roof are a little hard to find, but that just means less people to compete with! read more

Pretty good hotel for the price. Stayed in the newly renovated grand allee section on 2nd floor overlooking the main street. Rooms were quite modern, oversized fridge (for hotel), new shower, comfy bed. Front desk and concierge were friendly and helpful. Free wifi too Great location and easy walk to old quebec. Note that the sundries shop doesnt take american credit cards...i just walked to the metro neighborhood supermarket 15min away, a nice walk. There was some muffled construction noise (they were upfront about this and not in their control) from neighboring building but i didnt mind. read more

The location is perfect, walking distance to old Quebec and many restaurants, museums and monuments. The rooms looked beautiful but the beds are not comfortable at all. We spent two nights at this hotel, the staff was not very friendly. Most "5 Star" establishments would at least have a supply of personal items available if needed. I unfortunately had to find feminine hygiene items this morning. None at the front desk, I was directed to a vending machine. A small travel pack of tampons was $6. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Reserved a room for two with a queen bed. Got a room with two doubles, and were told that the hotel was full, but the good news was that we "would not be charged extra for the bigger room." I couldn't tell if there was some sarcasm I was missing. The room was fine. Not impressive, not dirty or bad. View was equally unimpressive - of a snow-filled courtyard. Check-out time is noon. We thought that turndown would probably be sometime between then and 4:00pm, the latest check-in time. We left in the morning and returned to an un-tidied room at around 3. The people were next door though, so we left to grab a coffee. 45 minutes later, we returned, and our room was still untouched. We gave up, and half an hour later, awoke from a nap to decline housekeeping services. Ordered breakfast the second morning. We selected a 15-minute window (in a check-off form) when it should be delivered; it was late. The meal itself: I would rather have had one of those breakfast platters from McDonalds or Denny's, and I don't eat at those places particularly often. Not a matter of snobbery, I'm pretty easy to please. The toast was soggy, the home fries were clearly frozen, and maybe microwaved. All this cost more than twice what I'd have expected to pay for it. The staff was friendly, and spoke English well. But this place was definitely not worth the money spent. Parking, in the hotel's own parking garage, was expensive, and charged by the day on top of the already-expensive room. read more

We had an amazing experience at the Hotel Chateau Laurier. The rooms were really comfortable and quiet, and the staff was friendly and helped us discovering Quebec City. I would highly recommend asking the concierge for where to eat and what to see in Quebec; he definitely helped us enjoy every second of our trip! Location, cleanliness and staff is five stars. The price is fair for the area, but not the hotel. They did provide us with free wi-fi which was very nice for a boutique style hotel. Some of my recommendations for this hotel to improve my 2+ star rating: Your wooden blinds look nice, but they don't block out light or sound...something that is fairly important in a room that faces a street packed with clubs, bars, and restaurants. A better comforter would go a long way to improving the Motel 6 decor, not to mention diffuse the clammy yet freezing air that blasts your patrons' faces as they try to sleep in their noisy, light-filled rooms. Also, it made my husband sick. Move the bed to a different wall, change the diffusers on your vents, and put up some curtains and I would bump this up to a four star stay. Visitors, be sure to request a room with a king sized bed, and make sure you get in the newer section. The only thing quaint about the old side is the exterior of the building, the interior leaves much to be desired. read more

Overall, great place to stay. Walking distance to the old city, and close to a number of very good restaurants. The room was tastefully decorated, and we were able to get it very dark at night, which is great for sleeping. We were disappointed that the pool was closed for renovation while we were there, which always bums out the kids. We were able to use the outdoor hot tubs, which were nice, but it was freezing out and the hot tubs could have been a little bit warmer, and there was no way to turn the temperature up. We had a wonderful stay at the Hôtel Château Laurier in August, during the Military Tattoo. I was surprised-the hotel is more American than European (in a good way.) The rooms are very nice, the beds comfortable. Breakfast can get very crowded, so go early so you can find a place to sit. There is also a conjoining bar without patio seating when the weather's nice. We were very lucky having a room with a view of the Old City. Even from the fourth floor, it was spectacular. We watched a Military Tattoo performance from our window! Close to shops, a Second Cup and a Starbucks (for Americans.) Right next to the parliament building and walking distance to the walls and Old City. read more

The tv volume in the room stopped working at 9pm and in the mornin I found out the blow dryer did not work in my room. Imagine my surprise at the latter especially since I was in town for a medical conference. No discount was offered to me at my check out. Good: Location close to the old city where most attractions are. Next to a street with all bars and pubs. Room is clean and furniture are new. Room service is good. To be improved: Wireless internet access is free but slow most of time. Ok if just browse web, not Ok if you want to download/upload video files or use skype. Not like it: Front desk answering phone queries is not patient and the answer got from them could be misleading. I made a collect call for my bank card issue and was told by the front desk that the rate is 1 dollar per call, when checking out, I was charged 13 dollars as a regular long distance call (a 1-620-xxx-xxxx number). read more

Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. The rooms are pretty dismal as well. They have a $200 security deposit - that's the rank of this establishment! Turns out we booked this hotel mistaking for a different place.This place doesn't have good reviews for a reason. Manager is cocky. Front desk is lame. It took us 2.5 hours to get to the hotel from about 3 miles away due to roads being blocked and the hotel staff 1. Not answering the phone for 20mins , then put us on hold and THEN they did not know directions to get us to their hotel. We were tired, hungry, it's late - showed no sign of concern and simply shrugged their shoulders at the inconvenience . Awful, awful customer service. All about trying to take your money! I so wish we cancelled because we couldn't access the lousy place! There was even a little kid that came back to the reception - I kid you not (lol) - 4 times while we were being booked in because they couldn't give him an operational key that worked for the pool. read more

We stayed at the Chateau Laurier, Quebec as part of our grandson's hockey tournament group. We were not sure what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised. We received a friendly greeting at reception and experienced a quick trouble free checkin. The bellman was cheerful and unloaded the bags from the car and took them to our room while I parked the car in the underground garage below the hotel. It was a tight fit negotiating the garage, but it was warm and dry and I appreciated being out of the snowy weather. The daily parking fee was $20 Cnd, but I guess that is the going rate in the city. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable with comfortable chairs for sitting. The rooms did not have a refrigerator but did have an in room cooler which was not adequate. A refrigerator would have been appreciated. The housekeeping staff were cheerful and friendly. I read one of the reviews that said wi-if was an extra charge. We did not incur an addition charge, so maybe that policy has changed. We rode in the elevator with the Duty manager on Sunday who was going to our floor to speak to some kids who were playing knee hockey in the corridor. We overheard the conversation, and she was pleasant in explaining that there had been complaints and that they could no longer play. She did a nice job. Checkout was as easy and pleasant as the checkin process. The location is good and is easy walking distance to the old city and fort. The only thing that was not great was the restaurant and bar. It turns out that they are not part of the hotel, and I would say they are below average for dinner, and average for the breakfast buffet. I would suggest eating off site in that there are some great places to eat in easy walking distance. We are thinking about another trip to QC over the summer, and would not hesitate staying here again. read more

We've stayed here on previous trips to Quebec and will stay here again. First, the location is incredible: close to Vieux-Quebec as well as the modern business district and the restaurants of Grand-Allée. The staff is very helpful and friendly (they've certainly never asked us for a deposit other than the usual practice of paying one night when making reservation. Neither have we had to pay for WiFi.) What really sets it apart from other QC establishments is a self-park garage with in/out privileges. This is rare in any large city center and so convenient for tourists who, besides seeing Quebec, want to visit Ste Anne de Beaupré, Les Chutes Montmorency, and Île d'Orleans. The rooms are modern and extremely comfortable. This time we stayed in the new section: our room was large, incredibly comfortable and well-equipped with a great view of the Plains of Abraham. We find it a comfortable midpoint between so fancy it gives you a headache and slumming it. read more

And in the day, you can walk to the turistic places of the town and to some good restaurants located in downtown. Thoroughly enjoyed a recent stay at this modern, up-to-date hotel. Accommodations are luxuriously comfortable, with ample space and nicely appointed. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. A native of Quebec had recommended it to me and I wasn't disappointed. Being by The Plains of Abraham was a big plus, and it was nice to explore the residential area bordering the park which are full of beautiful flowering plants and lovely monuments. I'd start by saying the location is awesome - straight shot 1/2 mile down the hill into the heart of old Quebec, a large beautiful park that runs along the St. Lawrence across the street, and a lively block of dining and drinking establishments just outside the door. This hotel has an older, not as recently remodeled section, and a newer, more recently remodeled section. On the first night, my family of 4 was put into a small room with a single full or queen sized bed in the older part of the hotel. We had to order a cot, and it barely fit wedged in between the bed, the bathroom, and the door to the outside hallway, so the room was cramped and uncomfortable to say the least. They did get us into a room with two doubles the second and third nights, and the room was in the newer part, and it was much more to our liking, similar to a nice Hyatt Grand or Marriott. read more

What a great location for walking about and discovering culture! Not that easy to get to because of detours and closed streets; we had to go behind the hotel via 805 av. Wilfred-Laurier. Our GPS was so confused so I walked and discovered that so once that kerfuffle was over we enjoyed ourselves. What a grandiose place with friendly bilingual staff. Close to many bistros and restaurants. Quick walk to old Quebec, parks and even a short walk to Cartier for marché--for fresh fruit, veggies, cheese, and wine. For quick grabs, there is a convenience store off Grand Allé and is accessible from inside the hotel too. Initially, it felt like the first day of college trying to find everything but the concierge is helpful. We somewhat enjoyed the outdoor spa but both hot tubs' jets were not working efficiently; although the water was clean and hot enough. The indoor salt water pool was so clean and the sauna was absolutely beautiful. Finally, you have to get the porters to bring the carts for your luggage so do-it-yourselfers will have to realize that. Really liked the noon check out too--gave us time to do breakfast at Cosmos(amazing), swim, and do some shopping. Would definitely return as long as it doesn't get too pricey... read more

Very bad service of the staff. The room had no curtains so it was very light in the room early in the morning. Then the staff put us again in another room without curtains.. They didn't do anything to fix it. At least they could give us a bottle of wine for example to make a gesture. The staff at this hotel is superlative. When my boyfriend and I arrived, we asked what kind of room we had reserved and if we could change our room. The staff took us on a tour of the rooms and then we picked a room from several good choices. When the staff found out my boyfriend is Portuguese, they sent a complimentary bottle of Port to our room. I have to confess that their hospitality upon my arrival in QC biased me favorably throughout the rest of my trip. Beyond the excellence of the solidly multilingual staff, the rooms are comfortable and nearly everything in the hotel looks new or close to new. It's extremely close to fantastic restaurants while being only a few blocks from the entrance to the old city. Staying here means being as close to the old city as possible while still being able to park your car; not a bad compromise. They have an indoor salt water pool. I was curious about joining a gym that had a salt water pool but wasn't sure. Part of my decision to stay at HCLQ was to try out their pool. Salt water really does smell and feel different. And by "different," I mean better. And the price is truly affordable. I once paid more to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Des Moines, IA which is not within walking distance of the best ancient city in the Western Hemisphere. Q.E.D. read more

This is a lovely place to stay if you are visiting the old city and/or the new. The location is very near the old city wall and a good breakfast place a couple of blocks inside called La Buche. It is also near a very good breakfast spot in the opposite direction called Cosmos. The hotel hands out 15% discount cards for several eateries nearby and some shopping outlets as well. The reception staff, bell hop staff, and information desk staff are all very friendly and extremely helpful. The quality of service is consistently high. Rooms are clean and quiet. My only difficulties lay with breakfast staff in the adjacent hotel; the breakfast time is busy and there was a problem with understaffing and less than optimal service. But there are lots of other eating options all around the neighborhood. Quebec City is a charming place where people are relaxed, unhurried, mostly bilingual, and clearly putting an emphasis on quality of life. I look forward to my next visit and a second stay at Hotel Chateau Laurier Quebec. read more

not quite the right balance of price vs. product. The price was pretty good, but there were tons of little problems that left us feeling like it was not worth it. The Good: -Concierge and bell staff were very helpful, friendly, attentive, and fast. I mean those members of the staff were way out of line with the rest of our experience - way better than this hotel deserved. -location is very convenient to the old town and the convention center -Our inner courtyard room was quiet -convenience store attached to hotel is well stocked The Bad: -The front desk staff, the houskeeping, and the people who answer the phone were curt, rude, slow, sloppy, unhelpful, and bad. -A/C unit shut off in the night for no apparent reason. The next morning when we asked, an engineer said "someone had turned off all the circuit breakers for our floor" -someone else's hair was all over the room and wasn't (or couldn't) be vacuumed up from the carpet -wallpaper wasn't installed correctly, so the guest room walls looked unfinished -holes in the guest room wall where pictures had been hung -The in-room safe wasn't working and it took a long time and several tries to get it working - 2 visits from security -not enough power outlets, and the wall switch by the door did nothing -on one day, the housekeeper forgot to leave us any towels. But took all the old ones. -I agree with another reviewer that the rooms feel like Motel 6 - a bad Motel 6 at that. -The bed was like a torture plank with a mattress pad over it, and the comforter scared me. The only kind of blankets we could get were those weird foamy lightweight ones. We specifically asked for some other kind of blankets (particularly cotton) and didn't get anything until we called again - and it was another like the one we didn't want... Overall, it wasn't horrible, just annoying and disappointing. I believe you could find another place to stay in Quebec that would be a better deal. read more
