I'm usually wary of Indian restaurants in small towns.. claiming to be authentic. But this place…read morehits it out of the ballpark. The food is awesome with service to match.
We showed up around 8:15 and took a while to order. And order we did: vegetarian entree platter, meat entree platter, salted lassi for starters. For mains: vegetable bengan (with eggplant, potato, tons of great onion, etc), daal, fish curry, chicken korma, paneer, naan, roti, stuffed pirata. A huge amount of food.
The portions are reasonable and so are the prices - surprising for a resort town. The most expensive thing is $20-$25, while the average curries hover around $13-$15.
The food was a little slow to come out, but the restaurant was almost empty and only one manager was on duty serving the whole place, and closing down... since we were there almost an hour after close.
But they gave us excellent service - water on the table that was replenished, checking in regularly. Even letting us order paneer late in the dinner when other restaurants might have closed their kitchen. And, they gave us chai too.
All that for $169, including tax and everything. You can believe we have the manager, Soni (I think) a good tip.
Lest you think I exaggerate too much (I am white after all), I was there with my Indian mother-, father-, brother-, sister-in-law, and husband. They agreed it was really a solid meal.
So, I give this place a 5 for service, 6 for exceeding expectations, and 4.5 for awesome food.
The ingredients all seemed quality - good meats, no stringy fatty gross stuff - and the dishes were well spiced and delivered on all the classics.
Definitely try this spot out!
