This has been one of my favorite Indian restaurants (my favorite in the Seattle area) for more than 10 years which is why I gave it four stars BUT I had a sub-par experience on my last trip. We brought friends to try it and about half of us ordered 1/5 stars spice wise and the other ordered 5/5. When our orders came, we could have sworn that the spice levels were swapped (which wasn't great...we joked that their star system might be inverted). Came here with a family of 7 including a baby for the first time. Reason for the one star is because the whole time we were there it reeked of Clorox bleach. The smell was so strong that the baby woke up crying. Told the waiter regarding the smell and yet nothing was done. I'm not sure how the restaurant thinks toxic smell of bleach is okay for customers to smell while they consume their food. We had a headache from the strong smell. My order of chicken tikka masala was unbelievably mouthwatering. The chicken breast cubes melted in the mouth, super juicy and tender (i find that this is rare with white meat and I also suck at cooking it soooo), and the "extra spicy" I ordered was ACTUALLY SPICY. They have an online ordering system off Yelp that's really easy to order instead of calling to be put on hold and honestly I can't even pronounce a lot of the ethnic dishes so this is way, way easier. Food was ready by the time I got there, my work is just right down the street. They seem to have a selective menu and restaurant looked clean. This is located in the same plaza as Teriyaki & More and Cypress Coffee right in between the Michael's Toyota and Subaru. Vegan friendly - they'll make most of the vegetarian dishes vegan if you ask. Note - Naan is not vegan. Tried the chana masala - spice level 4. If you're a "medium" spice person, probably want to keep it under 3. Portions for dinner are healthy. I'm not a big eater and probably could have split this with someone. Sauce was tasty and just enough spice that I didn't want to stop eating. Good flavors. Good quality. Updating as I saw a review saying not to order delivery. So my friend was having a backyard concert at her home in Bellevue. I was in charge for feeding the artist after the show. I was told the singer is vegan, and the guitarist loves to eat anything. The artist just flew in form L.A., and I have no idea what to get them, and since I don't know the area where the concert is being held very well, I turned yo good ol yelp. I found India Gate which was just down the hill from where the backyard concert was. So while I was getting my hair done 40 minutes away, I spoke to a gentleman on the phone who really helped me out. So for the artist who ate anything I got a boatload of butter chicken, and enough tandoori chicken to feed 6 people. And for the vegan singer, he helped me choose an eggplant dish, cauliflower potato dish, and a garbanzo bean dish. I also got the roti instead of naan because it's vegan, and everyone would like it. I got myself a mango laasi to enjoy during the concert. The nice gentleman who helped me with my orders, also helped me carry the food out to my car. Although I probably could've carried everything myself, he was kind enough to help me. What customer service!!! So our vegan artist enjoyed the food so much, she left her fans who were trying to talk to her, to get seconds. And the guitarist loved loved the food so much they were thanking me so much. I can't take credit though, it was India gate in Bellevue. Since I ordered so much food, some of the guest who lingered had some food, and were raving about it. I sat down with the artist, and enjoyed the meal as well. I tried both vegan and not vegan...I think I might just go vegan now . Well maybe not I like meat too much! I posted a few pictures. The vegan singer is the talented Sara Niemietz from Post Modern Jukebox, and legendary musician W.G.Snuffy Walden. Ricky B who happens to be in town helping Macklemore with his album loved the butter chicken. One of my go-to restaurants in the Bellevue area and I wanted to share this place with y'all. The serves are very accommodating and attentive. It is a buffet style Indian food, I love the tandoori chicken the most. Now I'm no Indian food expert here, but I really enjoy coming to this place because I get to try many different dishes without being disappointed. Dinner last night - restaurant is in a little area by some car dealerships and at night its outside light was out so I drove past before noticing it. Arrived about 7:30 and it wasn't too busy, steadily less (left about 9 and it was close to empty). We got naan, saag paneer, and butter chicken. Service was great, food was good. India Gate has a special place in my heart. I've been dining here since high school (almost six years total) and they never fail me. My go-tos are the chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, navrattan korma (vegetarian), gobi pakoras (vegetarian), and of course THE GARLIC NAAN. To this day they have the best garlic naan I've ever had. They always get the spice level just right and the workers are super friendly and always seem very grateful for the business. While I wish the ambience was a bit brighter or open, they do the best they can with their somewhat random location. For a delicious, more expensive, but fun environment try Taste of India in Seattle. But if you're looking for comfort food that's incredible and good prices, India Gate is the place for you. read more

Really disappointing food. The most upsetting was the Gulaab jamun. The minute I took a bite I had to take it out cause it was raw and uncooked dry bread. I honestly don't know how they have the reviews they have. Other dishes- Mattar Paneer- not flavorful Prawn curry- tomato curry with a few prawn pieces Gulab jamun- honestly not even edible Kheer- milk with rice. That's it. This is the oldest Indian Restaurant on the Eastside and maybe further! My wife and I have been dining at India Gate since the early 90's and the food is just as delectable and consistent as the day we first experienced it. The only thing that sadly has changed is the decore. They have lost the white linens and dapper suits they used to wear to serve but the food is still top tier. We miss the old atmosphere but love the cuisine just the same. It is very affordable and they give you huge portions. We hadn't been to India gate for lunch for years. The prices are reasonable. we like the assortment of Vegetarian and other dishes. It was nice that they had fresh cucumbers. The Indian music and decor are nice. It was great to be able to get in and get our lunch quickly without waiting and get back to what we had to do. Given that many of the dishes were spicy I just wish they would've had some fruit on the buffet two to balance out the space. They were awesome about keeping our water glasses refilled. There were lots of booth to choose from which is always a plus. I wish I knew how to give them 4 1/2 stars. In the end we felt like we had a nice healthy lunch. We will be back. read more

Ordered veg assorted pakoras. Pretty decent and not too much oily. Different varieties of pakora including cauliflower, onion and couple samosa too. Entree jumped in for dal tadka and veg jalfrazi. Medium spicy but dal was not the regular toor dal ( lentil ) but was different kind may be Moong but taste was pretty nice. Their breads especially tandoor roti was very soft. I ordered via Caviar/Door Dash and it was very fast and everything was still hot. I had Aloo Golbi, Dahl Makhni and Garlic Naan. The portion sizes were great and they included a big carton of rice. Ok, my mama didn't teach me, so I'm teaching you. If you want Indian food on Saturdays you will not be able to find a single one not serving a buffet. You will literally sample all the curries if you go on Saturday. Write that to disk. After avoiding many many other buffets we settled on trying this one to see if we can order off a regular menu. No go. The price is very reasonable ($13?), so let's do it. I go straight to the end of the buffet (because that's where all the food stuff is) and scoop up some tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, and some butter paneer. Not a huge disappointment, but I won't break my usual habit of not writing home. The tandoori chicken was dry; I see it leftover on the plates of the only other two patrons (too). Ok.. so I had to update this review and I would give it zero stars if I could or possibly even give then negative stars. Let me start by saying that we really like the food here and order from there atleast once a week and have been for the past 3 yrs now. But after the recent RACIST treatment we have received, I will never ever be ordering from them again and will 100% tell anyone I know never to set foot in this place ever again. So here's what happened. We ordered a paneer mutter with spice level 3 and it was wayyy too spicy (an believe me when I say that coz I love spicy food!), but this totally caused me heartburn and I could not eat it. I called the next day to let them know that the food we ordered was extremely spicy, especially since we order from them all the time. Let me be clear, we weren't expecting anything, just wanted to let them know we weren't happy with it and that they made our food really spicy. I think I'm perfectly within my rights to express my displeasure and give them feedback. But the minute we called and told them that the entree we ordered was too spicy to eat, the guy on the other end immediately retorted before we could finish our sentence and started telling us that "it's these Indians that always call for free food. What do you want a buy one get one free entree?! Isn't that why you called? Its always these Indians that call like cheap people to get a free entree". I was dumbfounded!!! Never have we been treated with such blatantly racism and disrespect, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever. We never once said we wanted a replacement entree. He just jumped to conclusions and started an accusatory, racist rant right off the bat. It ruined my day and left me feeling just plain horrible. It is not in my nature to give local businesses bad reviews because I want them thrive and I want to drive people to their business. But in this case, PLEASE STAY AWAY if you want to leave with your dignity intact. I sincerely hope the owner sees this and addresses this absolutely horrendous service experience immediately. Because this is not just about bad service, its also about treating your customers so so disrespectfully. I will be looking into avenues to take this higher to a consumer protection bureau or something similar, because I sincerely believe that racist accusations should not be hurled at your customers for any reason whatsoever. Went with co workers....most got on because of the "deal."
