As a first time parent, you literally have no idea what you're doing. The best thing I think you…read morecan do is to have a community around you who can help guide you, and Amma feels like a great first step to creating this community. We were recommended coming here by friends and our hospital, and ended up taking a one day class for newborns and breastfeeding, and a one day class for childbirth. I am also just starting my New Mama class with my month old infant (and I have heard fantastic things about the new mama class!) so I'm excited to experience that as well. Amma feels like a safe space for new parents to ask questions (I literally asked if I needed to worry about birthing a child into the toilet - a weird irrational fear I've always had, and they didn't laugh at me) and learn about this new stage of our lives. I'm really glad the twin cities has a resource like Amma. For pregnant people coming in - bring snacks to classes and consider bringing chair support - the chairs are not necessarily the most comfortable, but they do have a few yoga balls in case that is better for you.

They did a great job condensing key things from delivery process, postpartum, car seat safety, breastfeeding, newborn care, and putting on diapers. Due to our busy schedule the 7hr class in Edina worked for us. Don't be scared of the long session, you get several 5 min breaks and a lunch break. Their chairs weren't so bad for me, but I also had the step stool and/balance ball as an option. It was interesting hearing our instructor Tanya's personal perspective given that she's a mother and L&D nurse. She was great at getting the group to engage, so it wasn't just her lecturing the entire time. Given the good experience we might check out other classes like Infant CPR and/or Infant Sign Language.

After a horrible first birth…read moreexperience, my husband and I decided I needed more people on our team to help me achieve my birth goals for baby #2. We hired Midwest Doulas and immediately felt seen, heard, and cared for. Justine, Bella, and Ale were incredible and personable to work with, making us feel like we had our healthcare back in our own hands. No matter the time of day (or night) I was immediately responded to, even at 3 am when having contractions. Although our pregnancy ended in a C section due to medical concerns, Justine stayed in the OR with me the entire time and after the birth as well making sure we had everything we needed. We finished our experience with a lovely post partum visit to check if we needed anything, and continued check ins via phone regarding baby appointments and any follow up care we received. 10/10 would recommend these doulas to anyone with ears!!!

Their support gave me the courage I needed to trust in my vbac even when medical concerns had me doubting it. During labor Justine was the grounding force I needed to stay locked into my vision and have the confidence to push back on unnecessarily rushing my induction. She was a quiet force in the room that allowed me and my husband to work as a team through contractions. When I started to panic as I transitioned she held my focus and reminded me I'm almost there. 20 minutes later I was holding my baby girl. It was the redemptive birth I dreamt of and I am grateful for Justine's unwavering support and confidence. We felt so taken care of from the initial call through delivery. I wouldn't do it again without her. Worth every penny and then some.

DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL HERE None of the staff besides Racheal…read moreseem to be very educated in esthetics. You are taught very minimal things and are expected to preform services you barely know on real clients. Some of the services I wasn't even taught by an instructor and was still expected to preform them on clients. Another student signed her contract days before mine and somehow I was the only one in the class that ended up paying THOUSANDS more for the same education. When I confronted the school about it they questioned on how I even knew that in the first place and made up lots of excuses on how their policies just happened to change in those couple days. This school will suck every penny they can out of you, they make up hidden fees in your contract so that you end up owing the school a lot more money then just tuition when you've completed the course. READ THE CONTRACT VERY CAREFULLY. They are constantly changing their "policies" and the rules are different for each class. The class before me had a cheaper tuition and the class after me paid a lot more and they didn't even receive a kit like all the previous classes did. Me and multiple other students have reported them to the BBB because of how poorly and unfairly the administration treats their students. The reason they have such good reviews is because they hound the current and previous students to leave them a good rating. If this review can stop just one person going to school here I will sleep easy at night.

I will say that the instructor team that performs the services here does an amazing job of supporting new students.
