I don't usually write reviews for churches but I thought why not since it is such a nice cathedral…read morein the heart of downtown Vancouver. Very convenient for the holiday traveler still wishing to attend mass. We actually went at the beginning of our cruise and at the end. They welcome out of town visitors which I'm sure make up a large portion of the attendees. Another reviewer mentioned that the communion lines are with the people on the sides proceeding to the front to a kneeler and and those entering down the center returning up the same way. Seemed a little congested so we went to the side. Hadn't received communion on a kneeler in over 30 years! There are a couple of homeless with their hats out before and after mass. This is not unusual as you are in the heart of a heavily populated city. The congregation is diverse and it's interesting to see so many Chinese at a Catholic mass...but it's Vancouver after all! Aided by great acoustics in this cathedral, the choir was fantastic.

I've visited this church twice now. Both times were great! It's a fairly large church, so if you're…read morenew I recommend going up to one of the greeters and saying so. They can point you in the right direction. (This should be easy, as they smile and say some sort of good morning as you walk in. So take your time and stop for a chat! You don't have to rush past.) The people here are lovely, so don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with the people around you in the auditorium or find someone wearing a "staff" lanyard if you're looking for more "official" conversation about the church. Note: There's coffee available by donation and water, both at the cafe downstairs and a small station upstairs. You can take it into the auditorium, too. The preaching is solid, as others have mentioned. You can tell that the pastor knows his stuff and is passionate about the Word of God. I love that they give time for response at the end of sermons, which includes the opportunity to take communion. They do have gluten free communion at the front table, which is so nice and not something you see at every church. For those like me, it's much appreciated! The worship is beautiful. I loved seeing the passion on the team's faces. They light up as they sing and play, and it's beautiful. I got chills at one point during worship at the end of service today -- presence of God ushered in. Love it! It's a great church from what I've seen. And my friend who lives here says such good things about it. If you live here, give it a try, and seriously consider getting involved in a community group. They are the best way to get plugged in and make friends. I spent the afternoon with several of my friend's small group members after church and they were all so friendly and welcoming. This church is full of people who truly care about knowing and following Jesus and it shows.

Not focused on hype, or trends, but very much results oriented in their approach to ministry and helping make the city a better place.

I'm hoping someone from Coastal Church can explain who pays for the pastors' many trips around the…read moreworld - never places like Nigeria to bolster the spirits of Christians whose families have been slaughtered but to Israel, Turkey, Greece, London...Do they have another source of income financing these trips or are their salaries such that holidays like these aren't a hardship? and do videos and talk of their trips ensure writing these travel expenses off their taxes? Surely, the Church isn't paying out of donations as a bonus. Clearing this up would go a long way to providing confidence with attendees.

A regular, fairly traditional 10:30 AM Sunday service that often runs to an hour and a half with music from the large Casavant organ that ranges from sublime to majestic. Many times there are also professional guest musicians from various cultures and traditions. The afternoon Jazz service is also by voluntary donation and features professionals from around the city with little talking and lots of good music. The 7 pm evening contemplative service is predominantly candle-lit, calm and relaxing with guest musicians and small professional vocal ensemble to lead in the calm singing. Various activities for seniors, youth, parents & tots, The Word is Out for gay people to gather, share a meal and discuss topics of concern, a young people's evening of a meal and social fun (not an overtly religious gathering, open to all faiths) plus a welcoming to strangers conversation and coffee group. Free parking on Sundays in the underground parkade reached through the alley between the hotel and church off of Burrard. The venue is wheel chair accessible and sexual orientation is irrelevant. The recent rebuild have kept the interior and exterior looking the same but have brought better acoustics and lighting as well as cushioned seating. Also home to the longest aisle in Western Canada so often used for weddings and large memorial services. Seats just under 1,000 people. Also home to many TV and movie shoots plus public concerts. A particular favourite has been the Royal College of Organists Hallowe'en spooky music concert, also by donation, with some of the regions best organists playing themes ranging from Bach to video games, with cookies and punch after to raise money for their scholarship fund. A great place to attend a concert whether in the soaring sanctuary or intimate chapel.

What a wonderful, beautiful church - and amazing venue for a musical performance! The high, vaulted ceilings, the old, stone walls, the jeweled colors of the stained glass windows, the cavernous, open space - wow, just lovely. Even our wooden pew seat was comfortable (surprisingly). And the acoustics were just fabulous, too. We sat in the "south transept" area which flanks the stage on the east. My only minor gripe is that the seating diagram online didn't realistically portray where our chosen seats would be in relation to the stage (I knew which row we'd be in but the seats' angle to the stage front was quite off). That said, it was still great, and we enjoyed the show enormously and this church venue was truly special.

I was kindly welcomed at a Sunday Choral Eucharist service. The clergy and volunteers welcomed everyone, members and visitors. Well-to-do and down-and-out. Healthy and ill. All ethnicities and orientations. Two rude visitors next to me yammered during the service, but a volunteer quietly and kindly reminded them to respectfully keep quiet.

The volunteer at the desk was hard of hearing, and I felt like I was bothering the worshipers closely nearby with our conversation. I did purchased the Stained Glass Window Self-Guided Tour - which I highly recommend, and was provided with the pamphlet regarding the history of the Church. It was a cloudy, rainy day when I visited so the Church felt dark with the chandelier lighting, and minimal light from the stain glass. The ceiling is an amazing representation of the hull of a boat. The chapel is made of dark wood, and has a simplistic feel to it. It was one of my favorite Churches I visited during my travels through the Downtown area of Vancouver.

The church has program's addressesing personal struggles at the very right moment for me throught out theses years. Messages are always timely, as if God himself was speaking a message through the pastors to me. People there are authentic! They are interested to know what really is happening in your life and actually has the willingness to listen. Trevor Josh, the senior pastor never put himself in pedestal and the people are being challenged, tested and growing in the Lord. It is a small church and known for it's "big heart". The congregation is consist with Entrepreneurs, Accountants, Medical Practitioners, Community Weaver and Developers, Engineers, Teachers, Retired persons, stay home moms, the waywards and in between. This congregation is very diverse, but one thing in common..."saved by Grace and loving Jesus Christ". I attended this church for the first time for the Singing Christmas Tree show. It was the largest…read moremodern style church I've ever attended. It was definitely a mega church - something very uncommon in this part of town. There were probably enough seats for over 1300 people, as there were two levels for seating. The seats were made out of wood and they were cloth covered. The seats didn't feel uncomfortable, but they were just perfect in terms of firmness. The lighting and sound system was very good. I did find the singing Christmas tree to be almost creepy - singing heads as tree ornaments? - but their Christmas message during the show resonates with people of all faiths. This is definitely a rock concert style church, and not your one piano and classical guitar type of setting.
