I am not new to acupuncture by any stretch, but in the intake interview Amy asked me some very personal questions that did not relate to anything about my treatment needs, but I tried to go with the flow. She recommended some books and we had a very good conversation, but then the needles started to go in. Amy puts the needles in VERY deep, which I have learned through the years is simply not necessary 90% of the time. At one point, she put a needle in my upper left shin (lateral aspect). It was immediately on fire but I tried to breathe through it. Next up, the needles went in my ears. She put one into my left ear and I started shouting, "Ow! Ow!" She almost seemed to enjoy this because she just twisted the needle in as I shouted. By the end of the session, the lower half of my left leg was completely numb, my ear was throbbing, and I was trying to focus on staying calm. I did reschedule another appt at first, but cancelled it a few days later because my lower left leg and ear were STILL bothering me and because I just didn't want to endure another session. She has a lot of knowledge but uses a very old, American-style of acupuncture that I realize is the cause of so many people being turned off by this ancient practice. I ended up getting two appointments at another clinic and had a much, much better experience.

Even though I told her I don't plan on getting pregnant now (and don't even have a partner), she told me that the medication would affect my chances of getting pregnant in the future, and I should therefore see her instead. After consulting my medical doctor and the drug manufacturer, they said this isn't the case. The medication only affects people who ARE pregnant or IN THE PROCESS of trying to become pregnant. Taking the drug now doesn't affect people who want to become pregnant in the future. When I contacted Lana's office to clarify, they said that what Lana told me initially was her interpretation of the facts. Even the office staff is drinking the dishonest kool-aid that she's selling. Because of this, I decided not to see her and went to a different acupuncturist in the area. Please be careful and do your research before moving forward with her. I was a little freaked out to have needles on my face for the anti aging treatment but it was completely painless. It worked better than Botox!!
