The hospital, Northwestern, called IMC Illinois Medi-Car without my knowledge, and it turned out that their service is not covered by Medicare. They sent the bill to none existing address and reported me to a collection agency soon after. I spent hours on the phone with them to fix my current address, and I was told that they will remove me from collection. I paid the bill, but they never bothered to remove me! What a mess! I wish I could give negative stars because of how awful this company is. I was literally forced to use this service by North Shore Skokie Hospital after I had surgery for a broken ankle. I waited almost 6 HOURS for the ride to show up. The van was filthy and the driver was incredibly unprofessional and didn't even help me get up 5 stairs at my home - I had to text someone to help me. He just left me there. DO NOT EVER use this company - it is a scam and being treated so horribly is not worth the insane amount of money they change for the ride, which I was told would be $30 and it ended up being $100, so I was lied to. read more

The hospital, Northwestern called these people without my knowledge or consent. I live one block from the hospital. The driver said I needed to pay cash for the ride.. they charged me $33.00, and I still got a bill from them. Furthermore, they indicate that the invoice is for NON-MEDICAL transportation!.. then what is a transport van with a wheelchair lift?. And if its not for medical transport as they claim, why is the hospital arranging the transport?. And the name " Illinois Medi-car, inc" clearly refers to a medical transport of some sort. I contacted them by phone and expressed my discontent, and alerted them that the driver took my $33.00. They were rude and would not even hear my side of the incident. Northwestern needs to use a more reputable and honest company who values the customer and doesn't have drivers collect the money without notifying the main office. The main office needs to monitor their drivers, get the billing to be accurate. I have every intention of notifying both Northwestern Hospital, and any governmental watch dog organization. I made an appointment in advance for transportation, they called 1 hour before appointment and canceled! Lefy me in a difficult situation.

My mother needed transportation from Ressurection hospital in Chicago to Avanti rehab in Niles. The hospital called Media Car to transport her. We were told we must pay in cash. The driver was professional and on time. We paid in cash with a tip and received a receipt. We have recently received 2 bills in the mail for payment even tho I made a.copy of the receipt and mailed it back to them. What a scam. read more

I do not mean this facetiously - but this service should not be used by human beings, especially after they've had surgery. The van had the accommodations as if it were facilitate to move pianos. I was picked up at Women's Prentice Hospital 1 1/2 hours after the scheduled time. I paid the driver $48 in cash and got a receipt from the driver. I received a bill one month later saying that I did not give the driver $48. I sent a copy of the receipt along with the bill to Illinois Medi-Car showing that I did indeed pay in cash for my ride home. One month later I received a bill saying that the bill was not paid, even though I included the receipt, which said that I paid in cash. Northwestern Hospital has no idea how bad this service is and it's a shame they contract with Illinois Pedi-Car and send their patients home using it. I think it's a very unwise choice to use this service. You will be quite sorry if you do. And you will be billed continuously if you pay in cash because they do not keep track of their own receipts nor do they open their mail when you mail a receipt showing that you paid for your ride. read more

I was very disappointed in your service between Alexian Brothers in Elgrove Village and The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. The driver came late (4:30 pm) so that I arrived at the Lutheran Home while the staff were serving dinner and caused me to wait over a half hour before anyone came in to help me settle in. The driver hurried me out of the hospital putting my suitcase on top of my lap even though I just had knee surgery and grabbed it off my lap snagging threads off my blouse in the process damaging my blouse. I do not recommend using this service at all. Zero stars would be more appropriate. read more

We have had the unfortunate opportunity to need the services of Illinois Medi-car for my father who recently had a stroke and has been relying upon a wheelchair for his primary method of mobility. The folks at IMC are unbelievably professional and caring and friendly. We have had all positive experiences with them and highly recommend them. read more

The hospital arranged the transport for my mom from St Alexius in Hoffman Estates to Friendship village in Schaumburg. The driver was on time, but that's the ONLY positive thing I have to say. It took about 20 extra minutes for the nurse to finish her discharge and when she was ready, it was off to the races. Mom was sitting in a chair and without so much as a "hi how are you" he grabbed her arm and was getting ready to yank her up and out of the chair until I interceded. I told him he needs to handle her gently. (by the way, we are talking about a 4 foot 11, 91 year old).Once I got her in the chair, he was off and practically RUNNING down the hall. I called after him once to please slow down and he ignored me. Then I yelled"hellooooo do you think you can wait for the family???" By this time he was already at the elevator. When we got off of the elevator, it was off to the races again. Despite my requests to wait for my husband and I, he continued at a race-walk pace. His car was outside, and without a word he quickly went to work loading her in like she was parcel. He didn't give me an opportunity to ask if she was ok before he slammed the door and got in and drove away. My husband and I followed him all the way to the nursing home and he was speeding, and nearly rear ended a car making a right turn, but swerved left to avoid it at the last second, which scared my mom to death!! We kept up with him and he was doing 52 in a 40 mph zone. Once inside Friendship Village the speed limit goes down to 15 mph and this is because the road curves and turns. Mom told me she thought she was going to fly out the wheelchair. We clocked him in our own car doing 25 mph. When we arrived at the nursing home, it was the same. Not a word spoken, just unload and go. He again practically RUNNING down the hallway, stopped briefly at the nurses station then continued to her room At this point I wasn't going to let him near my mom and I told him so. I got her out of her chair and poof he was gone. Anyone even thinking of using this service for yourself or loved ones, DON'T!!!!!! You are putting them in danger. I have started the complaint paper trail and will pursue this to make sure Chris will not be touching any more Seniors. I don't even want to think how much worse it would have been if I weren't there. If I could give a negative rating I would. read more

I recently had the unfortunate experience of needing Illinois Medi-Car service. Their service was absolutely abysmal. To begin with, I was originally given an hour and a half window for pick up. However, the driver took closer to a shocking 3 hours before he arrived to pick me up. Secondly, the driver was constantly on his phone talking to his girlfriend while driving in rush hour traffic. Even after a another passenger said that he would feel more comfortable and safe if the driver stopped talking on the phone, the driver continued to talk on the phone and then make derisive comments about the passenger. I was seriously concerned for my safety driving with Medi-car and would NEVER recommend their service to anyone!! read more

I've used IMC three times. Once great, once just OK, and this last time they were awful. Made reservation well in advance, specifying the exact times, called day before to confirm and verify reservation. Day of, they were MIA -- an hour late with lots of hollow excuses (lies). Driver was very young and totally clueless, acting as though driving was a step down. Not the least bit helpful or responsible, more interested in a cellphone than traffic or the rider. Not a good experience and hope to find a better alternative. read more

We gave IMC our pick-up time on both ends. 2:30 pick up and ride to doctor. 4:30 pick-up and ride back to the nursing home. At 4:30, I called to confirm we were ready, and they said 20 minutes. They said 20 minutes 4 times until they finally picked us up at 7:00 PM. My poor mom!! In a wheelchair...in the lobby of a medical building with the doctor's office closed...chilled...falling asleep. There's no excuse for this kind of service. I will never call them again. I see there's a 5-star review here. Well, maybe it was a glitch. But, to me, they've proven they are not to be believed. read more

Upon the advice of Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn we used Illinois Medi Car to transport my mother to a rehab facility. We were told that transport would be at 4:30 pm. We were ready but the driver didn't show. By about 6:00 I began asking the nursing staff for an update and all they would tell me was that they were "running late". The driver did not arrive until after 8:00 pm. The driver stated he wasn't even given the assignment until 5:30 and he was on another call. Someone at Medi Car knew that they would be late but they never bothered to pass that info along. The only reason they get one start is because the driver was very courteous and apologetic. I wish the company cared as much about the patients as the drivers do. read more

I heard nothing from them--no bill in the mail, no email, no phone call--until two months later when I got a notice from a collection agency. read more

My mother-in-law had to use their services and she NEVER received a bill from them for payment of services. So instead of sending a bill they sent the account to a collection service. I would not recommend them. read more

I used their services on January 15 to go from Glenbrook Hospital to Northwest. Community. The service was fine but I never received a bill or follow up statement or phone call. The first time I heard from them was through a collection agency. I'm a retired accountant and I would fire their billing department and start over. Cash flow keeps a business solvent. read more

Had a recent experience at Northwestern Hospital where it ALL went south pretty quickly... my procedure was delayed almost 6 hours, I came "out of it" in a lot more pain than I expected, and (because the surgery had been delayed so long) my scheduled ride home with a friend was no longer a possibility..... turns out that this place "Illinois Medi-Car" has nice equipment and well-trained and courteous drivers (Go Vernell!). Couldn't have been more pleased - recommend them very highly. Not so sure I'd recommend Northwestern Hospital though! read more

Used this service for my mom. Driver told me that I would save money if I paid by cash. Don't have the receipt as this occurred 3 months ago. Had to pay again by credit card today because they have no record of the cash payment. I will not use this service again. I would have given zero stars if this was an option. read more
