Very outdated, rooms need updating, a/c unit leaked all over balcony, also you could tell the balcony has had NO attention in a long time, cobwebs & huge spiders everywhere, would have been nice to enjoy that view from balcony. Restaurant and bar was nice, little pricey, but convenient, so you don't have to leave. We chose this location due to it being on the Lake, Amazing views.. that's why we chose this location, for the price. Not worth it at all.. read more

If I can give it 0 stars I would. First and foremost I want to thank the gentleman in the front desk who looked extremely overwhelmed. A few minutes before he arrived to take over I asked the lady in the front desk for some towels, she told me to wait until the gentleman comes because her shift is basically over. Their were over 5 people waiting for towels, the gentleman looked very stressed because you can tell their weren't any, I mean who accepts these events to get booked and their isn't any towels that I can wrap around my whole body (I'm only 125 lbs) the bathroom sink wasn't working. I give absolute props to the gentleman in the front desk!! He was very understanding and even though he was overflown with guests complaints and running back and forth he still managed to help me and my family. You are greatly appreciated you deserve more than to be there !! THEY HAVE MOLD ON THE CEILINGS MY DAUGHTER GOT SICK FROM INHALING THAT STUFF AND SHE HAS MEDICAL PROBLEMS !!! If you're thinking about staying here to be close to the beach, don't. Stay anywhere else and make the drive to the beach. This hotel is old, run down, and dirty. I have not seen one member of housekeeping since I've been here. Or any staff at all really. The only people I've seen are the front desk employees and the waiters for the restaurant. The rooms are dirty. It looks like no one has vacuumed this carpet or cleaned the bathroom. We also found red goo like substance on the side of the bed. The mattress to the bed is also on a table structure? Anyway, it's super uncomfortable. The pillows feel like bricks and they only give you a sheet and a thin blanket to sleep with. The hallway carpet is dirty. The main lobby is dirty. Trash cans outside are overflowing with garbage. There are spider webs and bird poop on everything. The hotel restaurant is mid at best and overpriced. And the service has been slow each time, even though we were the only table. The doors to their basement entrance were propped open last night, I noticed from outside. Makes me think anyone could just walk in if they please. So yeah don't fall for their website or the pictures you see online. I can guarantee you, it does NOT look like that. read more

We have been driving all day and are ready to relax. However, our room was not ready, so we have been sitting in the lobby with other guests who are facing the same circumstances - no clean rooms available. Check-in time is 4:00 pm, and it is now 6:59 pm. Check-out time is by 11:00 am. We and other guests have been waiting here since 3:30 pm. Although we received complimentary drinks today and free breakfast tomorrow, the drinks were watered down. If it weren't so late, we would have canceled, but that's no longer an option. It's my birthday, and a nice dinner out is no longer feasible. I need a room to freshen up, and our dinner reservations are in 20 minutes, which would require a 45-minute drive. I requested an upgrade, but the clean rooms are reserved for other guests. The staff apologized, citing that three employees failed to show up for work. The manager has yet to make an appearance or offer an apology. For the past three hours, we've been told that our room will be ready in 15 to 30 minutes. We were just informed that it will be another 15 to 20 minutes. It's now almost 7:00 pm. 7: 18 pm room is ready. Phone doesn't work. Had to ask for more towels. read more

Nolan's restaurant was amazing! Food was delicious with the freshest ingredients. Katelin and Jackie gave us the best service. They were so helpful and cheerful. Every human was kind and helpful. An old hotel with some recent renovations. it needs attention to details in a number of areas . cobwebs in corners, paper towels in restrooms, dark corners of ice machines. the room was mostly clean, not smelly or moldy. the AC unit sounds like motocross outside the door. the headboard has fingerprints, the coffee......why even bother. working mini fridge and microwave, the shower was great pressure and temp, hallelujah. no frills here. no free breakfast, no pool. the view, the beach, the park make this place a gem. if your hoping for 5 star bougie, nope. Charm, history, laid back with a possibility of radiation . I am very glad this place still exists. read more

I wanted to like this hotel. The views were great and I am sure even better in the summer. My family and I went for one night for a quick little getaway and to go to Six Flags the next day. There was some blood on the walls and shower curtain of the bathroom, no plastic cups to drink water and no bag liner for the ice bucket. We had a room to accommodate 4 people, but were only given enough towels and pillows for 2 people. I had to wait in a long line to ask for more towels, then led elsewhere to a supply closet to get them. It seemed odd. We were very disappointed that the indoor pool was closed. There was loud music all night long coming from more than one room, we barely got any sleep. The phone in our room didn't work to call the front desk to request the towels or to mention the noise in the middle of the night. When I did call the front desk from my cell phone, no one ever answered. The following day we were checking out and there was a long line at the reception desk again but there was a basket labeled "Check Out", so I dropped our room keys and left. 10 days later I noticed a charge of $513 to my credit card from the hotel. I called to discuss with the manager and she was not in, I was told to call back. After 4 days of calling, being told the manager was not there, leaving messages, I never got a call back. Finally, I asked the person who answered what this $513 charge was about and she told me it was for our 4 night stay. I informed her that we stayed one night and pre-paid for it through Priceline ($136). She told me that she would work with the manager to get it corrected and that the manager would call me back. The manager never called me and I ended up having to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Be careful here!!! Watch your credit card/bank account for unexpected charges. Had I not noticed, I would have paid $649 for a one night stay in a mediocre hotel. Please do better Illinois Beach Hotel, next time I'll just go camping. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. We were here pre pandemic and don't remember much so it must have been lackluster. But now it's sharp and clean. The rooms have been remodeled with new mattresses and a fridge and microwave, none of the latter two mentioned on the website. The pool is being redone and we were told it should be done soon, so we're thinking of returning in the fall or winter when we can take advantage of it. There are fire pits for burning wood on the lawn and there is a patio with propane powered fire pits for sitting around in the evening. One of our group got a lake view room which has a small balcony with two chairs....very nice. She complained about the mattress being too soft so maybe some rooms have older mattresses. The restaurant looks nice, we plan on going tonight when the special is prime rib. They serve lunch and dinner and Saturday and Sunday they serve breakfast ...a buffet (that also wasn't mentioned on the website). Nice tv in the rooms with lots of kiddy channels and really odd programs like "car repairs with Jenny" or something. Bathtub/shower. Not enough hangers in the closets. Little coffee maker that makes a single cup...pods. Great experience...coming back. N the read more

The Illinois Beach Hotel can be best described as I left hungry after my three day stay. The hotel is quite beautiful and I can see why it would be a good place to get married. The common areas are tailored to big events because they are large and give off a Summer beach resort vibe everywhere you look. But the rooms are dated and need to be modernized. The gym was surprisingly massive (bigger than all gyms that I have seen before) but I quickly realized that this might be a gym local community uses. They have personal trainers, gym classes, and more equipment you might see at any other hotel. I got in a few good workouts over my stay. The pool looks like it is in the center of the Amazon. It us surrounded by a mix of big and small plants. The pool area was massive which you can imagine looks beautiful with all the plants that surrounded the pool. But let's get to why I left hungry after having three meals a day. Every meal worst than the next. I am unsure if they are trying to save on food prices but I was disappointed with the quality that came out the kitchen. I had to give up on the meals and snacks when the popcorn they served was beyond stale. It tasted like they had let it sit out for days and made extreme attempts not to let salt touch the popcorn. I would only visit this hotel again if I brought my own food for the weekend. read more

This is a really wonderful, relaxing place to stay located right on Lake Michigan about halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. It is a very affordable "beach" place if you want to just chill out and relax. It's located in a state park/nature reserve kind of in the middle of nowhere. There are trails and free bikes which is really nice. There are lounge chairs for sunning but no umbrellas. The resort itself is a 3 story hotel that has been completely renovated so ignore previous posts about it being dirty and dated. The rooms are very nice, very clean, and attractive. The receptionist upgraded us to a lake view room when we checked in and gave us a 10% discount on the first night for joining the Best Western rewards club. Also gave us free bottled water and granola bars. It is pet-friendly. The room had 2 queen beds, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Beautiful view of the lake. They have Direct TV and HBO. Internet reception is slow but eventually comes through. There is a rather middle of the road restaurant which we are at only once because food was bland. There are several small restaurants nearby that were good. (One, El Rey Del Pollo Asada, was incredible for grilled chicken!) There's a bar in the resort and 24/7 coffee that is quite good. We drove up to Milwaukee for a day to see the art museum and a Brewer's game. Another day went to Racine to see the famous Johnson Wax HQ designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. So it's a great location for day trips. And of course there's Chicago. Staff SUPER FRIENDLY and always greeting with a friendly hello. There's an amazing gym, hot tub and Olympic sized pool included. A serious fitness place unlike most hotels. We ended up extending our stay from 3 nights to 4 because we enjoyed it so much. It has a heavy weekend wedding business and I hear it gets noisy so recommend doing weekdays like we did. read more

What a gem we found when I decided to book this place for me and my moms stay for my nephews Navy Bootcamp Graduation. Showed up late on a Thursday night and the bar/restaurant were closed but Letty the sweet lady working that night talked the chefs and we were able to get food and drinks. Gina and Joey are awesome as well behind the bar and all food we ate was delicious. This place has a huge indoor pool that is heated at 80* and the jacuzzi was hot. They have a sauna and big gym that I didn't use. Lots of parking and everyone and I mean everyone was very nice/friendly and helpful. The room was a nice size with comfy beds. Our only disappointment was the time of year we had to come. Only because it was -6 and covered with snow all over the patio and beach. But very beautiful. Would love to come back in spring or summer or even winter again. Thank you all who made me and especially my mom feel welcomed. read more

We came here for our 31st anniversary. Everything was clean. Everything was perfect. The rooms were updated and pretty. Do yourself a favor and spring for the view of Lake Michigan from your window. This is by far the best time we've had a hotel. Restaurant is also great. One caveat.. worst coffee ever. Lol. But I can live with that by having a Bellini next time. Get yourself their steak and asparagus for dinner along with their garlic olio dip. Woof. That was great. Also, in the morning...yummy parfait. Enjoy. read more

Easter Sunday Brunch just turned me so wrong. I will NEVER visit or recommend the Easter or Mother's Day Brunch event to anyone, ever again at this location. The check-in reservation process was always a mess at these events but we dealt with it. This year, we arrived 30 minutes early to wait in line for 40 minutes and made to wait another 45 minutes. When we realized later parties were being seated ahead of us, we asked and were put on the BOTTOM of the lists for a table. That's it, the nice guy gets shafted AGAIN. We left and they have not heard the last from us. Me, my wife and three year old son deserve better, anybody does. Why make reservations? why wait in line? why spend that much time and money then get shafted? NO MORE! And after all that no apologies or explanation. read more

The beach access is amazing which is why we originally booked the hotel. When we arrived we had to wipe almost everything down because it was visibly dirty. Not a huge deal. We always plan to sanitize a room before settling in. Things just kept unfolding from there. Quickly noticed the sink and tub drained very slowly. Patio was infested with spiders so we could not use it at all. We killed well over 10 bugs in our room as well. Hallway garbages were overflowing the entire time we were there. Microwave looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. They had a 25th anniversary party this weekend and it was very obvious they were the only guests that mattered. Receptionist, Renata, was very rude and unhelpful with our concerns. Scheduled to check out at 11am Sunday we decided to give up and drive the hour home at 10pm Saturday night after killing several more bugs, and the toilet stopped flushing. Not sure if this was just a bad weekend for them due to the party or if this is how they always operate. Not a hotel on my recommendation list and we will not be back. read more

Sticky tables, dirty floors, half the salt and pepper shakers were missing from half the tables and flies were everywhere! Won't be coming back here to dine or stay. read more

We went to the Restaurant tonight at about 6:00pm. In the past, I remember delicious fried chicken that used to be a favorite. The restaurant has obviously been sold or at the very least under new management. Menu has changed. Quality of food is exceptionally poor. Left without eating hardly anything.. Service was okay. I would love to recommend this restaurant to fellow diners and travelers, but I cannot. Favorites like the fried chicken, prime rib (on weekends), ..... have been taken off the menu. As a matter of fact, the entire menu has been replaced with a sheet of paper menu. Until we get word that improvements have been made to menu and food quality avoid this restaurant. read more

I had only been to the resort one other time about five years ago. My husband, daughter in law, my son, and myself had been invited to a wedding. We attended the Schmidt wedding 9-14-18, as we are friends of Christine, the bride and her family. The banquet was very nice, but I'm sad to state, your staff is beyond disappointing. My husband and I had overheard a lady make some rude comments about a coworker, stating how she had bribed the bride to work her wedding. The attitude and gossip between the workers was disgusting! My son found a bartender who was very friendly and had made his wife a drink. I honestly would have gone crazy with the amount of people waiting, but my son said she was so fun and friendly! So from our family personally, we would like to thank our bartender Renee. She took pictures for us, made drinks, and other guests were talking positively about her as well. We have been to five weddings this summer, she was our most favorite and fun worker. We wished we could have bottled her energy and taken it with us! I also want to note that the front desk clerk Mike was great with helping my husband when he had some questions. The hostess was helpful in directing us and So friendly also, I believe her name was Aslinn or Ashley. There were a few people who wore smiles and made you feel comfortable as they were engaged with the guests. People want to write in order to complain, and initially that was my intent, but I wanted to give some positive feed back to those that directly affected my family and our experience. I asked a staff member who the lady speaking so rudely was, sad to report I was told she was The Wedding Co-ordinator, Donna. So your upper management stands around to gossip about other workers? There were many of us who overheard this, as well as a few other comments. Most of your workers seemed truly sad and irritated to even be at work, never mind host a wedding and remember that to ONE woman in the room... this was one of the most important days of her life! My daughter is engaged, we have crossed your resort off of our list of options. Perhaps your management staff needs to read their Harassment laws of the state again, as well as take a course in customer service. I am a General Manager of two restaurants, have been for 15 years. My staff would no longer have a job with the comments, rudeness, and lack of professionalism we witnessed at your resort. The only word that comes to mind is "Disappointing". Hopefully other guests didn't see or realize what was going on and make comments to the bride or groom. I would be so saddened to hear how people's lack of respect ruined their evening. To those who were good.... they were actually great! I was thankful we did not reserve a room, as we live in Libertyville and the ride is short enough. But as a local resident and Leader of many management staff members, I would advise you speak to your team perhaps retrain some of them. read more

Love this year's upgrades: new management, newly redecorated rooms, new menu. We had great 2 relaxing nights 3 days enjoying the lake, beach, large swimming pool with jacuzzi, huge gym with all the equipment, especially enjoyed the free bikes & spent hours cruising the beach, campground & trails. The restaurant was very accommodating to our vegan requests with friendly staff Tiara & Oscar (Oscar amazed us, being on his own our final night; he still greeting us with a smile & apologized for any wait while zipping around as guests descended upon the restaurant inside & outside). Reception desk super friendly staff - Mike was friendly & professional - will ask for him again when we book in future. I do wish I remembered the lovely young vegan gal's name at registration desk = all smiles all the time & expressing interest in how our stay was going. I do recommend this Hotel with hopes that returning guests have the same great experience we did. PS Need more tee's & trinkets in gift shop & they ran out of water for purchase on our last day but all went well regardless. read more

Illinois Beach Resort has its own private beach right behind the hotel (I believe there is another private beach off to the side but we didn't go over there). They hold weddings there but mostly you can sit on the bench and look out over Lake Michigan. The scenery is nice and calming. The resort itself can leave much to be desired. We had requested a Lakeview balcony and received a balcony that was right next to the bar. This meant that if our balcony window was open people sitting on the patio at the bar were looking into our room. It also meant that if we went onto our balcony at anytime, we were basically sitting with the people at the bar. I was disappointed that we paid extra for the balcony and never used it due to the location. And the restaurant.... We wanted to eat at the restaurant just because it was going to be easier that day. It was a Saturday and they were having a wedding reception in the tent outside. We walked over to the restaurant and had to wait a bit for the hostess. When we asked for a table, the hostess said there would be a wait. My fiancé asked why there was a wait since there were 4 open tables outside and at least 5 inside. Hostess told us that the kitchen could not keep up so they were not seating anyone. We ended up going to the bar to get a drink. At the bar, we asked the bartender if we could put the drinks on our room where she told us they don't normally do that but she would for us. When we finally went over to the restaurant to eat, the payment situation got even weirder. The bartender had told us she would just transfer the drinks over to our restaurant bill and it would be done. When our waitress went to charge us, she told us we absolutely could not charge it to the room because they cannot communicate the information to the front desk for billing. It got even crazier! The waitress then asked us what our drinks cost! She just made up a price to charge us the cheapest wine and vodka prices because she didn't know and I, the honest one, insisted it got added to our bill. On the plus side, the cops did have to come and break up the reception. In the morning, there were tons of people complaining and getting comped rooms. I was just disappointed that the Lake County Police didn't bring along the Live PD film crew. :-( read more

We recently enjoyed a great three night stay at the IL Beach Resort & Conference Center. They are undergoing a through redecorating and updating to the location, and it's beautiful!! We found the staff to be courteous, resourceful and apologetic when the WiFi worked sporadically. The pool, fitness facilities and game rooms were clean, with up to date equipment and tunings to do. Aside from the WiFi issue we were highly pleased with our stay and will return again. read more

I was conflicted if I should write a review about this resort or not because my initial interaction with the old coordinator was great until they changed the wedding coordinator. They hired Trina and the interaction with her was very unpleasant the days leading up to our wedding and the actually day of our Wedding. The employees seemed very unhappy to work at this resort. They didn't care that our Wedding was the start of something new for us. They didn't care about our guests. I remember asking my maid of honor to direct the guests to the cocktail hour space because no one was there to tell them where to go. I also remember my photographer walking me through the cake cutting because we looked confused about what to do. Our food was also extremely cold. Our coordinator was no where to be found the whole day. The only interaction she had with me was when she was screaming about wanting to play it safe and move our Wedding indoors because of 20 % chance of rain. We stood our ground and demanded to have the wedding outside and it was the highlight of our day because we had the perfect weather. It was a very unfortunate experience because this place is so beautiful and has so much potential to be great but the people that work here are making it a disaster. I wrote this review in the hopes that the next bride and groom have a better experience than we did. read more

My fiancé and I planned to have our wedding ceremony here right on the beach, along with our rehearsal dinner, bonfire, and block at least 20 rooms for our guests. We made an appointment and met with Trina, the wedding coordinator. At first she wasn't very warm or friendly. I attribute that to my fiancee and I focusing on our CEREMONY and not planning to have our RECEPTION there as well, which we were upfront with her about. Mind you, they advertise and she confirmed that just the ceremony IS POSSIBLE. Everyone knows the reception is the $$$$$ when it comes to weddings, but with our party size (initially 75-100) they'd stick is in their basement room that looked and smelled equivalent to a nursing home bingo room. Part of the consultation includes a tour of the facility. While we walked and talked, the more money we discussed spending the more friendly she became. By the end, she promised to put us a contract together which we'd have 7 days to agree to and pay the deposit. 3 days later, I received an email asking for the same information we provided her during our meeting. I immediately completed the questionnaire styled inquiry and sent it back. 3 more days followed... I heard nothing. I sent a follow-up email to let her know we were looking forward to working with her and getting our date on the books. Still nothing. Called and left voicemails... No response. Since our date is fast approaching, my fiancee decided to stop in and see if he could meet with her. She came down clearly bothered that he'd stopped in. She told him she sent me the contract days prior. I'd received nothing; checked spam and all. She had him wait about 30 minutes and came back with a copy of a thrown together proposal /that I have no doubt she concocted while he waited). After he left that day, we heard absolutely NOTHING ELSE from her again. NOTHING. No returned calls. No email responses. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Again, my fiancé stopped in. This time to pay for our ceremony outright. We're getting married in July! We HAVE to get the details finalized! She was even MORE rude. Even refused to take the payment because he needed to have an appointment. HOW?!?! She didn't return any phone calls or emails! This was 2 weeks ago. I called early this past Saturday morning and undoubtedly caught her off guard. She initially told me she'd be handing our ceremony off to the lady who plans business meetings (which was fine with us because at that point I had no faith in her competency to execute our ceremony or other arrangements successfully anyhow nor didn't I want to work with her and her poor attitude and demeanor) and since seven days had passed a new contract would need to be written up. I told her that was fine and we wanted the ceremony for 100. She then placed me on hold for about 20 minutes. When she got back on the phone her entire story changed! Now, just the ceremony wasn't possible. We can only do the ceremony if we had the reception there too! THAT IS NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD AT OUR INITIAL APPOINTMENT NOR IS THAT WHAT WAS SAID ANYTIME SINCE THEN INCLIDING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PHONE CALL! Needless to say, we'll be in touch with the GM, the BBB, BEST WESTERN CORPORATE OFFICE, and anyone and everyone else we can contact to inform them of this piss poor service! Not to mention we've got our backs against the wall now to make sure our ceremony is as beautiful as we Invision it! Thank God there's a GORGEOUS hotel within minutes of this place with cost-worthy rooms and SUPERIOR SERVICE!!! read more

This is a hidden little gem outside of Chicago. If you're looking for a simple mini quiet getaway, this is the place. It is located inside the Zion Illinois state park. It has its own private beach, a big clean indoor swimming pool, sauna, game room with a pool table, and a lake view restaurant with a patio and great casual food. The room was well kept and look newly renovated. The prices are decent. My husband and I was looking for a simple place to getaway from our hustle and bustle life in Chicago. This was perfect. POOP IN POOL AND THEY REFUSED TO CLEAN IT. We only stayed at this hotel so we could enjoy the pool. We were there not even five minutes and we noticed several pieces of poop floating in pool. We pulled our daughter out imediately due to contamination. My wife notified the pool clerk giving pool towels out and we sat in the hot tub for one hour and no one even came to look at the pool. No announcement telling young children to get out. Kids put water in their mouth. The water was contaminated and no one from the Illinois Beach Hotel cared. I then went down to same person and said you know their is poop in pool and he pretended like he knew nothing about it. Another hour hanging out in hot tub and still no one came. We finally went to front desk and told her and she said well we dont have a pool maintance person here. REALLY?!? That would be like having an emergency in hotel and saying we dont have proper people to deal with it so we will just continue to let guest be in danger while you refuse to even make an announcement. I then told her the only reason we came to this hotel was for the pool and she walked away not even addressing my statement. I am beyond upset about this. I didn't even want to give them one star! EASTER BRUNCH DISASTER! Our family of 20 (8 kids/12 adults) will not be back for Easter Brunch!! 2019 was our 4th year at this venue, it is expensive (with tax and tip: $42 adults/$20 kids) we chose this location for the Lake Michigan views and the egg hunt for the kids. We always select the 9am seating so we have time to eat, and the kids can do the egg hunt at 10am, then we can get to church by 11am. In years past we had been seated early (before 9am) and the buffet stations were up and ready for us, BUT NOT THIS YEAR! Obviously they had no shows in the kitchen and the food was not ready for the 9am seating. They were so far behind with not enough help in the kitchen, that I doubt all the menu items ever made it to the buffet stations that day! Needless to say the hour we allowed for eating, turned into 2 hrs and we all just gave up going back up to the food stations hoping our favorite foods would be available......NOPE! The kitchen help struggled to get food items out amongst the chaos; on a positive note, the wait staff did a great job dealing with unhappy customers, BUT NOT THE MANAGEMENT! When we expressed our disappointment with how disorganized they were and the lack of food options we were told 'there is food to eat' and when we pressed for compensation, the manager only offered 15% off our bill. We were not the only unhappy customers...... unhappy customers can kill a business. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: When faced with the realization that you could not meet customers expectations (advertised food offering and reservations), there were other steps that could have been taken to help ease the hit on the business; a painful choice, but obviously they could have cancelled the early seating; let customers know what the issue is, apologize, and let the customer decide if they want to stay or leave. They could have offed free/discounted vouchers for the next brunch event, anything would have eased the disappointment and possibility of bad reviews. Management failed. TIMELINE: Reservation was for 9am; We waited 15 min. to be seated to be told that not all the food was out yet but we could wait at our table with coffee and mimosa's.......needless to say the kids got antsy and at 30 min past our reservation time, we started to go up for our food.......the only stations ready were the Dessert tables and the Kids station (chicken fingers/fries/dry confetti pancakes/little quiches/cold mac n cheese); the Seafood station only had frozen crab claws and shrimp with no sauce (the sauce came out after we had eaten our shrimp); NO crackers, breads, muffins, bagels, cream cheese,etc. The Fruit station was minimal with no utensils for serving; only one noodle salad; tossed greens with only one dressing; cheese/salami tray minimal with no utensils; Note: eventually the utensils came out. The Hot food station had many empty chaffing dishes; bacon (either burnt or limp); sausage (they actually were good); scrambled eggs (either too done or runny); beef tips/gravy/mashed potato dish (ok); baked chicken/sliced potatoes dish (chicken didn't look cooked enough); chicken in a sauce (didn't try it, it looked awful); NO pancakes, french toast, hash browns, steamed veggies, eggs benedict (typical brunch food). The Carving station only had dry lamb (no mint jelly). About 10am the 2 Omelette stations were struggling to get going (they pulled a prep guy from the back who had never cooked before, and asked him to find anyone he knew to come in to help man the other omelette station; they did a good job considering they never cooked omelettes before). Also the waffle station was up by 10am (didn't have time to wait in long line). They did bring out a white fish with wild rice dish (didn't try); and filled in with more cold mac n cheese and appetizer quiches. As we were getting ready to leave 10:30ish, the beef roast was available, so I grabbed a plate to try it, sadly it was rare, very rare and tough, no juice or horseradish sauce; and the pork roast came out (didn't try it). NO HAM!!!! Can you believe it........even the person manning the carving station thought there was supposed to be ham! We left at 10:40, still hungry, but the kids did get to do the egg hunt......hmmmm, not even close to $42 value....so disappointing. Gordon Ramsay would have run out of curse words! read more

I contacted the Illinois Beach Resort to have my wedding there. After meeting with Trina, we decided that the room we wanted - the ballroom overlooking that lake was out of our budget and the other ballrooms were not at all appealing (Trina promised to send photos of wedding that had taken place there, but I never received any). We discussed just having our ceremony at the hotel, as it was a special location for myself and my fiance - we come here every year for our anniversary and Trina stated that is was possible. We also discussed renting out the patio for a ceremony and cocktail hour, which Trina also stated was possible and we were sent price lists for both options. As we were looking for a different reception venue, I asked Trina what dates she had available for ceremonies and she stated that since it was such a small amount of time the dates were all open, we would just have to work around the other weddings happening. It took 2 months to find our reception venue and when I e-mailed Trina to confirm the date and submit payment, she stated that "the policy changed" that they will not be doing ceremonies only anymore. She did offer to host my reception. Even if I liked the space, I would never host my reception in a place that promises one thing and makes changes 1/2 way through the process. I was very upset by this interaction and Trina did not offer a single compromise. I read all of these positive reviews about Kim and how special she made peoples weddings. Now that she no longer works there, there is no personal touch and understanding, at least in my experience. read more

DO NOT HOST YOUR WEDDING HERE!!! We booked our wedding at this venue and prior to anything to do with COVID (no excuses) they removed the venue we had booked (outdoor tent) and moved us to an indoor venue WITHOUT telling us and that WOULD NOT ACCOMMODATE our guest count. Then they refused to honor our group rate for our guests. Adding insult to injury, the Manager Darryl, laughed at my fiancé when these things were brought up and said, "Well your wedding is not as important as the Democratic convention (2 hours away) and we will be focusing on them." We were bringing nearly 300 people to our wedding and had planned to book out most of the hotel for the entire weekend. NOW, they agreed to provide a full refund for all the un-agreed upon changes they chose to make, claimed the check would be issued and we would see it within 7-10 days. After that message, they have not issued a refund, they have refused to respond to emails or phone calls, and it has been 10 weeks. Pathetic excuse for customer service and absolutely has caused way more stress for us as we have had to re-design our wedding and have still not received a refund for the wedding that no longer gets to happen in July, due to their incompetence. Hiring a lawyer and dealing with these people the only way they will understand. read more
