When I attended college here, I did do a good amount of my textbook shopping and souvenir shopping here (and in general at Gameday Spirit or Follett's when it wasn't available). I did enjoy the nicer decor and layout of the store to provide a pleasant shopping experience. As an alumnus, I do appreciate their selection of unique items that you won't really find online, sports store, or at the mall (at least not easily) that includes items like homecoming apparel and disney themed collectibles. Service is pretty quick and while prices could be a little cheaper, they're not outrageous either. read more

My husband brought me to see his Alma mater. And what trip to the University of Illinois campus is complete without a stop at the Illini Union Bookstore. When we were there, it was the start of homecoming week, and the Bookstore was handing out free homecoming buttons. We shopped around a little bit and found two T-shirts to buy. The. Prices were not as outrageous as I had been warned. They have all kinds of apparel and souvenirs to purchase. I highly recommend stopping by the Illini Union Bbookstore when you're on the University of Illinois campus. read more

This is definitely a standard place to visit when you're on campus at U of I. However, I know from experience that the books are priced higher here. However, they have local events and a starbucks. So, this is a great place to study in the air conditioning. They also carry a large selection of items that's just not available at other book stores in the area. They even have some art supplies! Landmark Review: I was recently here to get my photo ID for the university after joining as faculty. I was surprised that even though the name implies the UNION, it is in fact not located in the union. You have to cross the street and it is on a street across from the alma mater. The line for photo ID was short and the staff was super professional and fast! It looks like this is the store for students to get there text books. read more

If you are a crazy U of I fan then you have to have the clothes to go with the attitude, yes? This is not the cheapest place to get your orange and blue on but they do have quality merchandise and a bit different variety than you see at other bookstores. (They also, curiously enough have books here! For classes! What?) The Illini fan to whom I am married is 6'6" so it is hard to find Illini gear for him but they at least have an extended size rack here so he has managed to score a few items over the years. They also have such cute baby clothes and as my eldest daughter is due in December, let's just say I may have gone a little crazy here last Saturday. If you come here to buy your Illini wear, you might want to hit their special sales on Mom's Weekend, homecoming, stuff like that. Now I didn't do that this last time but I have in the past. Don't ever buy anything from here unless it is required !! Everything is so much more expensive than it needs to be! For example, I thought I was buying a notebook for $3-4 because of the 10% sale... nope, I got taxed $12 for a notebook that is $4 at Target... shop for basics elsewhere unless you want to get charged a petty tax. read more

A very upscale college bookstore. It almost looks like a library with all the wood shelving. They have text books, home office supplies, college souvenir curios like sweatshirts, and almost any item needed for school. Prices are typical for a college bookstore. Recommend checking out the sale items. Picked a nice college hoodie for $20. Good deal. Starbucks located near the entrance with some study tables nearby. read more

This is the official bookstore for the University of Illinois. The good parts are that they sell a wide selection of quality merchandise. Their employees are generally kind an friendly. There are, however, down sides. The Illini merchandise that is sold here is grossly overpriced. Their sales are good, but everything else will have you emptying your pockets. If you are a student, you will find this out even on a greater scale. Many of the textbooks that students need are sold only here and therefore, the prices are jacked up beyond belief. In addition, it's not necessarily fair to the bookstore since it was an executive decision, but all CHIEF memorabilia and references are removed from the bookstore. Shameful. read more

There are always lots of people "working" here. So that could be a good thing, the workers though always seemed annoyed that they are there and that customers are there as well. My last visit I got to listen to several employees discussing the fact that Touchdown Jesus should be the next mascot since that would be less offensive than Chief Illiniwek. I don't expect to find Chief items here but I would think a better selection of of sizes would be available. I always thought the Union bookstore had classier items than the other bookstores on campus, that is rapidly declining with their current stock. Prices are always higher than other places and the selection is scattered and confusing. The influx of Amazon/Starbucks and a bank leave less room and flow throughout the store. read more

The books here are really expensive and you can get them much cheaper online. My main concern is the quality of their merchandise. The merchandise is obviously very cheap and yet they charge outrageous prices for it. When I voiced my concerns to the manager he was very rude and condescending and I do not feel that he took my concerns seriously. You would be better served going elsewhere. read more

This store takes complete advantage over students; they offer little to nothing when buying back books, but charge you mass amounts for a book. I was charged $27.35 for a book they offered to give me $2.00 for. I will no longer support the bookstore, as they clearly do not consider the financial burdens on students who attend college. read more

I purchased a T-shirt from this bookstore and the first time I washed it literally fell apart. When I tried to return it they told me I could not because I had washed it. What???? Also, their men's department has clothes my grandpa would not even wear. They clearly are not in touch with what college students wear these days. All in all I would go elsewhere because both their books and apparel are way overpriced. read more
