The plot was linked not only with Guy Fawkes but also Robert Parsons who come from nearby Nether Stowey, who the locals celebrate as heroes. Bridgewater later become a cavalier stronghold, holding out against Oliver Cromwell and the Parliamentarians until the decisive battle at nearby Langport. North Petherton's big advantage is that it usually takes place on the first Saturday in November, so it's ideal if you need to travel a fair distance. If you've never been, you really should go!
