This restaurant was not as good as I expected it to be from the reviews and compared the other Italian restaurants I have been to in Italy and in Boston North End who are owned and run buy Italians. We went there as a group and had to make reservation one day in advance which is typical for popular restaurants in Dublin. It's a pretty small and noisy restaurant. So, if you would like to engage in a conversation in a group it is not easy. The eggplant and calamari appetizers were pretty good. I got the seafood pasta which was okay. Some of my colleagues got a ravioli dish which came with shaved truffle which we got charged for (35 Euros extra for each dish!). Panna cota was very sweet. The espresso was delicious. However the restaurant is on the smaller side and since it appears to be a local favorite as well, making reservations ahead of time is a must! This is my dad's favourite restaurant and for very good reason! It is rare to stumble across such an authentic little Italian in the most touristy part of Dublin! Every time I come here I leave with a happy tummy! The food is so fresh and delicious I feel like I could have had my dinner in Italy! On top of that the extensive wine list will not disappoint, the staff are very good at helping you match your wine and food and I love the decanter they attach to the red wine bottle! Needed a good spot for a catch up with the girls last Saturday night and thought a return trip to Il Vicoletto might do the trick - we weren't disappointed!! My two girlfriends had not been before and it lived up to my raving! I had the walnut pasta again - I could never be disappointed by this dish! But next time I will have to force myself to try something difference - one friend had the Pear and Tallegio rissotto..To-die-for!! I'm definitely going back for it. Gave them a ring at 6 on a Friday approaching Christmas to see if they could accommodate 4. No answer...booo.... will have to try another place. Then the phone rang and it was them calling back 'Come on down'....Yaaaay! The place is tiny. The four of us opted for the set menu which was 3 courses for €25. Calamari for starters and amitriciana for mains. Others at the table had mussels and pate. All very satisfied. The calamari were delicious and very delicate. Always a good sign of a restaurants calibre. My amitriciana main was very good. Two of my compadres also had it and all agreed. The other diner had Sea bass and thought it was one of the best she'd had in an age. I finished off with a chocolate fondant...YUM. This place comes highly recommended. A nice Italian place in the heart of Dublin! We had a nice dinner: We started with a nice spumante to celebrate my birthday :). Followed by a parmigiana cooked as my grandma did. My wife had a mushroom salad with parmigiano. Then, we had the fabulous pastas alle vongole so tasty. I took the classic Italian cheese and to be confident I never experienced these types of old and matured cheese, interesting to try with their very good honey and sweet olives. To finish on a sugar note, we shared their tiramisu, and love it! A bit disappointed on my favourite white Italian wine, their pinot griggio is too young and not so tasty as it should be. Amazing Italian restaurant in the middle of Dublin Temple bar area that you would completely walk past if you did not know how good it is. This is hands down one of the best Italian Restuarants we have ever been to and we have been to Italy 3-4 times. It feels like a family run restaurant with people who care about their food and the richness of taste and quality of ingredients of their food and wine. I was so surprised to have my Irish friend take me to an Italian restaurant in Dublin. Pleasantly surprised as I am not the biggest fan on pub food, not that Italian is much better for my waistline! Il Vicoletto looks a little like a hole in the wall but is some of the best Italian I have had in a while. We aren't talking "artistic modern Northern Italian cuisine" but rather a good sized portion of perfectly spiced carbohydrates from your Nonna's kitchen. Make sure and call for a reservation as the place is tiny and diners are packed in like comfortably friendly sardines. Usually I would hate sharing so tight of space with strangers but it works well at Il Vicoletto and lends to the familial air . Your server will be Italian, not Irish, and will be able to speak to the extensive Italian wine list. Trust them and if you're lucky like I was, you will get to go through a few bottles of Barolo during your meal. I also left my menu selections completely up to our server. We ended up with a bit of everything but don't miss the risotto. It is truly divine. Although I certainly shouldn't have, I went for the tiramisu and paired it with some Port. Because why not. Totally worth it in my book. Tell only your best friends about Il Vicoletto - I still want a table on my next trip to Dublin! read more

Best eggplant Parmesan I've had! They are very welcoming and give great suggestions! We didn't have one bad thing here and we ordered a lot. Wine everything amazing! My boyfriend only eats Italian food so he's very picky and everything was fresh down to the cheese and bread! I'd like to give this place a 10. A truly great experience. We showed up without a reservation and they were able to get us in. I would recommend making a reservation in advance. We were lucky, but they were also very kind. The service was excellent. From start to finish they made us feel very welcome. The food was fabulous. We started with the aubergine and the shrimp appetizers. Wow, amazing. For dinner we had the spaghetti with cherry tomatoes and burrito, and the Raghu de pappardelle. Both were amazing. Ate here a few days ago while on vacation in Ireland. This was probably my favorite meal of the trip! It's a small place and was very busy, but it added to the cozy ambiance and the service was great despite being a full house. The food was delicious! I've been to Italy many times and this was quite authentic - fresh ingredients, wonderful flavor, classic dishes, great wine list. I had not been back for years & ended up there by chance last night. Really enjoyed it. The decor is not anything to write home about but it's the food that brought us here. To start I had the Rocket(rucola) salad, sliced mushroom and shaved parmesan with extra virgin olive oil. My wife had Deep fried calamari coated in flour served with salad and sweet & sour sauce followed by the linguine alle vongole; not being a huge fan of clams, I have to admit it was memorable. I had the fish of the day which was Plaice, cooked with capers & lemon with a basil mash served in a tomato, really lovely. Our hotel concierge recommended Il Vicoletto and we were not disappointed. Located right in Temple Bar, they had a lovely menu and a very reasonably priced wine list, as well. I had the daily pasta special and my friend had the spinach ravioli. Both were just what we needed before our last night on the town. We chose Il Vicoletto based on the rave reviews, but were sorely disappointed. We hate to write a bad review--but here it is: To start, we made a reservation ahead of time...taking the advice of prior reviewers. While we were seated immediately upon arrival, we were placed at a table directly in the walkway from the kitchen, despite others being available. The place is quite small, so we were definitely bumped by waiters coming in and out of the kitchen. This was especially frustrating seeing an empty two-top available against the wine wall for much of our meal. We ordered appetizers, and they were fine. Bread was delicious. Love the oil and vinegar. But here's where it really went downhill...Steven ordered the spaghetti, Becca ordered a mushroom pappardelle. Before our food even came out, the waiter brought some towelettes to clean our hand, and let us know that our "seafood pasta" would be out shortly. We told him we had not ordered seafood pasta. He told us he would go and check, but never said anything further to us about it. He then brought Steven the seafood pasta anyways. When we again told him that we did not order that, he suggested that we just eat it because it would be a bit of a wait before we could get the spaghetti. Steven--not a seafood fan--said no. They took the seafood away, and also took Becca's mushroom pappardelle away so that the dishes could be served together. Not long after, the mushroom pappardelle and the right dish--the spaghetti--were brought out. They were simply disappointing. Steven's spaghetti dish was bland and undercooked...it seems like they rushed it in light of their error. It seemed like Becca was brought out the same plate as before--like the plate was just stuck under a heat lamp while Steven's replacement dish was prepared. The sauce was thick on top, and the dish was not very hot. After we got out food, not once did a waiter stop back by to see how our food was. We wanted the bill (costing us over 60 euros) as soon as possible so we could just get out of that crowded restaurant. After craving pasta all day, we were regretted our choice of restaurant. read more

Homemade pasta in a small restaurant. Down one of the side streets off the main road, the restaurant was very warm, busy, and noisy. Even being busy, we received good service except for them forgetting part of our order. The pasta was homemade and the sauces very nice. I had the papparadelle with porcini mushrooms and walnuts. I will say that this restaurant feels authentic, is cozy, and the staff were very friendly and attentive, but maybe only because is was a slow evening. A bit of a delayed review, but I was in about a month ago on Thursday, no reservations were needed at all. I am assuming the food is more spot on when busier.
