This was by far our best meal in Venice, and definitely worth visiting! Yelp has the address wrong, which is perhaps why there aren't as many reviews here as there should be, but for those of you who are confused, this restaurant is in Venice, Italy and not the middle of Italy where the current map shows it as. It's located close to San Marco plaza, and is a fairly small restaurant that seats only about ~20 so reservations are a must. Thankfully they are not super hard to come by as I emailed them about a week out and was able to snag a table for 2. I do think in the summer months you'll need to book earlier, but if you aren't able to get a dinner reservation, they do a 28 euro prix-fixe lunch with 3 tapas and a main.
We came for dinner and were offered three options - the seafood tasting menu (80 eur), the fish and meat tasting (75 eur) and a la carte. The items from the tasting menu come from the a la carte menu so effectively you could order the same items and just share and probably come out ahead $$$ wise, but we opted to do the tasting so we didn't have to split among ourselves. The courses for the seafood tasting were - sardine sandwich, roasted scallops, sea urchin black spaghetti (we asked them to substitute this instead of the fish soup pasta and they were more than accommodating), sea bass, and an assorted dessert plate. Everything was delicious, but the flavors of the sardine sandwich were so interesting, and I love everything sea urchin so of course I was a fan of the spaghetti. My boyfriend liked the scallops and sea bass most so we were the complete opposite which goes to show that everything was pretty good!
They have wines by the glass and the bottle (all super reasonable, especially by New York standards), so we had them recommend a white for us. The meal lasted a bit over three hours, which is longer than you'd expect for a 5-course tasting, but this is Italy and they like to stop and enjoy la dolce vita. I am pretty sure we were the only party at our table that evening which is pretty refreshing considering NYC trendy restaurants rush to turn tables 3x a night . Compared to the rest of Venice, this place is on the pricier side since you can indeed get great food for under $50 a head, but if you want something a little nicer I highly recommend Il Ridotto, truly a gem in Venice. It's got a Michelin star too, for those of you collecting stars. read more
