There are tons of options, including many vegetarian ones, and I have yet to try a dish that wasn't beautifully made, with balanced, light flavors. There are lots of beans, lentils, vegetables, yogurt-based sauces, olives, cheeses, stews, bread, tea, three or four variety of starchs--rice, couscous, bulgur, etc-, burek, fried stuff, baked stuff, boiled stuff.... Sometimes, if I need to eat one meal in a day, I'll go here. Second: the people that work here come from various places--Turkey, Lebanon, Germany, Cuba...ALL of them (that I've met) are friendly, generous, and welcoming (and patient as I point at the different foods to pile my plate with!). The atmosphere of the restaurant is awesome: a clean, simple yet warm vibe, classical music playing, and a back room where you can look onto the back yard. Third: you are getting ALL of this for either 7 or 9 Euro. I come from NYC, where one can easily--and in fact often does--pay twice that amount for food half as good. SUPPORT places like this, that offer lovingly made, healthy, delicious food for good prices....this is my favorite restaurant BY FAR in the neighborhood, and there are many other good ones here. I've brought about 4 friends here and all of them have been blown away...one even told me the next day, "dude, I can't stop thinking about that restaurant!".

And my meat was totally burned, I couldn't eat it. The restaurant was really full and we had to wait 1 hour for our food, what is understandable, but is not worth the price. I was celebrating my wedding anniversary there and unfortunately was not a good experience, I'm not coming back!

We passed this place just about every time we walked to and fro our airbnb, and it looked cute and was almost always busy, so we gave it a shot. An older man, presumably the owner, greeted us. He didn't speak much English; we spoke no German. So in a game of charades, we managed to get seated and order a pitcher of still water. So far so good. He handed us menus that thank you jebus had English subtitles, and I quickly settled on a risotto dish with beets and veggies that sounded right up my alley, in addition to the antipasti appetizer tray we decided to start with. After placing our order, I watched as our waiter moved from table to table and realized he was the only worker in the place. It was a relatively small restaurant, maybe 10 or 12 tables between the inside and the outside, but one guy for the whole place? yikes. He brought our water quickly and took our order in good time, so I thought that maybe he's just super fast and a rock star waiter and handling the whole place by his lonesome is no biggie? And then he walked out the front door.... and I watched him pass all the outside tables... and turn a corner... and not come back. Did he just drop the mic and up and quit? Is he coming back? Is there anyone else here to bring me food, because I'm pretty hungry? A good 10 minutes later, he shows up. He resumes his work. He brought us out our appetizer, which was a tray of grape leaves, some seafood which I cant recall because I did not eat, roasted veggies, olives, cheeses, etc. It was good to okay. We had something similar a few days prior in Fuessen that was freaking magical, so it was impossible not to compare the two and I think that sandbagged my feelings a bit. We finished the tray and I saw the server walking in our direction, seemingly to pick up the empty plate. But he kept walking... all the way out the door. I watched just as I had the first time, as he left the building, passed by the diners outside, and then turn the corner out of sight. Whaaaat is going on. Long story short, this happened one more time, totaling 3 times that he just left the place unattended for 10-15 a piece. I could hear the bells from the kitchen as they completed plates to be brought out to hungry eaters. I watched as fellow diners looked around in curious frustration, waiting to get their meals or their wine or their check. It took over an hour and 15 minutes for us to get our entrees. And was it worth the wait? Not, unfortunately. My risotto was lacking something. Flavor mostly. I had to add salt to the dish just to get some kind of taste to it, and I never do that. The food was bland, the service was partially non existent and the price was too high for what we got.

From the review, it…read morelooked like a hip and upcoming restaurant in Neukoelln with strong vegetarian and vegan side but with also a good amount of meat. Good enough, because our group of six people shared the same balance of carnivore and vegetarian. Quite honestly, the food was just OK and a little bit overpriced for a bit mediocre taste. I had the penne with pesto accompanied by ladyfingers and cherry tomatoes. The main thing, why this establishment got such a low rating, is that it was service that tip the boat into the area of infamous Servicewueste (Germany has a reputation of having bad service). It took almost twenty minutes until we got the menu. I thought this was quite an achievement. The restaurant itself wasn't crowded but wasn't empty either. I think it took the courage of one my female friends to get the wine menu and food menu. In the end, we stayed at this place for three hours(!), more or less involuntarily, having paid for drinks, half of us getting the food and even of the people who got the food, one of us got the wrong dish. Only after some discussion, we received a halfhearted apology and a discount on one bottle of wine, all of which I thought should have given us for free because we gave them so many chances to get things rolling. The point is, they messed up whether the kitchen is to blame or not, and we are disappointed as customers. Sadly enough, because of that, half of our evening was ruined, and half of our people had no food. And to be honest, I still do not understand why half of our group did not get their food. One of the girls got a salad, which did not even require heat to make. (Mind you, the manager was blaming the kitchen and kitchen was blaming a power outage) Two of my friends ordered the same thing, of which only one of the person got their dish. I think this rendered me speechless. In my view, good service would have been to acknowledge that things went wrong and just try to make it up. As I said, we walked out disappointed, hungry, and a little furious about the time we spent there. All six of us will probably never go there again. This is not how people want to start their weekend.

I wandered down to the picturesque Winterfeldt Platz and decided to try out Manzini. Nice coner location, wide menu with English translations lots of outdoor seating. Luckily I was in no hurry... if I had been, my day would have sucked. I ordered the lasagna and a drink. The drink and a basket of bread showed up in good time, and I began to nibble on the bread and read my journal articles. I nibbled some more and eventually realized I was the only one sitting there... seems they lost my order or decided to make fresh pasta at some point - it was well over an hour before my lasagna showed up. Wow. The good news was, I was in leisure mode and the lasagna was delicious... and the portion was huge. Two could easily share. Piles of fresh pasta, rich veal sauce and a pile of fresh herbs and cheese on top. Yum. I decided I wanted a glass of house red - but honestly that was slow too. And then a bee landed in my glass and I had to have the waiter take it off to remove the bee... and he stopped off to take another order on the way. Seriously? Dude - pull the bee outta my wine and get that order after you bring it back - I'm trying to eat my dinner. If the service had been better, I could have given them 4 stars - but even discounting for the fact that I was in no hurry at all - this was glacial at best. The food was really good - the service was not in the same league.
