There is another Il Pescatore restaurant listed on Yelp but either it has the wrong address or there's two restaurants of the same name. The one I am reviewing is located at Gran Caribe Resort and is part of their all-inclusive package.
Of the five restaurants located at Gran Caribe Real, Il Pescatore is the most spacious and has a nice view of the front of the resort. A lot of people have said you need a reservation for dinner but as of this current review date, the resort has gotten rid of the reservation system and is exclusively first-come first-serve for all their restaurants. Regardless, we came for dinner at 8pm and were seated immediately.
We noticed there were two waves - one early dinner rush at around 6-7pm and then a slow period until 9pm, when the late dinner rush comes. So come between those hours and you'll get a table right away.
... not that it matters. For some reason the restaurants at the resort take FOREVER to get you your food. The three a la carte restaurants (Sunset Grill, Maria's, and Il Pescatore) took at least 30 minutes to bring out the main course. Not sure why. Anyway, when the food comes out, it comes out hot so I know it's not been sitting out. Maybe the kitchens are just small and not as well equipped to handle a full house?
The food was delicious, however the portions were small. We finished dinner at Il Pescatore and went across the lobby to the Albatros buffet and had a small plate to fill us up...
If this restaurant were located here in Los Angeles, it probably would have been a one and done for me. I wouldn't come back. read more
