I went with two friends this past August (one Italian and one American) and they were equally as excited as me. I have traveled all over Italy and this meal was really one of the best. A must get is la pasta con salsi Di noci (walnuts) on the top right. We had to order an extra because it was so good! I also emailed the restaurant for the recipe to make back home and they sent me a detailed reply back very quickly. I attempted making the walnut sauce which was very good, but obviously didn't compare to the real deal.

We were a bit too early, clearly. We had a drink somewhere else, then made our way through the square and it was packed. We chose Bar Berto randomly, mainly because it was busy and yet had one nice table free near where we could watch all the passers-by. I think this place is known for its beers, but we were doing campari spritzes and stuck with it as we perused the menu. We ordered a mozzarella di bufala appetizer and each had a pasta. Mine was the Genovese specialty - Trofie Pasta Genovese - and my dining companion ordered a ravioli dish. Both were excellent, but the Trofie was a revelation. Just drowning in the basil pesto and the pasta pieces were so unique and the texture so perfect. We loved our meal and the service was excellent. We were helped by two different young women who seemed like international students or travelers - seemed like English was their first language. So glad we chose to luxuriate on the square - it was fun to people watch and be in such a lively place for a few hours.
