Randazzo in off season can be quiet, so when we wanted a late lunch our choice was narrow. We came…read moreacross this place and asked if they could accommodate us, despite the fact they were closing soon. Kindly they agreed, and wow what a surprise. The unassuming exterior did not hint of the quality food inside. We had an antipasto of a selection of local meats, cheeses, chutneys and fried vegetables. All was beautifully balanced and together provided a snapshot of the tastes from the Etna region. We followed with pasta made with pastachio from the region-heavenly: the pasta was beautifully made and perfectly cooked and the pastachio based sauce were delightful. We followed with a plate of various fish, each lightly fried with a fine seasoned flour covering. The freshness and taste of each shone through. All was washed down with a carafe of red wine which the owner told us was his own. Grown and produced in the rich soil of the volcano. It was a remarkable wine made all the more remarkable for its low price. This family owned and run restaurant is a jewel and if the train journey around the base of Mt Etna is not reason enough to visit Randazzo, Gli Antichi Sapori certainly is.

Following the previous review I would like to reconfirm everything mentioned in that review, on top…read moreof that the owners are lovely people who took great interest in my elderly farther. The restaurant prides it's self on fresh local products that are prepared in the oldest traditions of Italian cooking. I ate probably twice as much as I should have but the dishes were just too dreamy to pass by. Calling this place a hidden gem would be an offense... it's a hidden 18 caret diamond!!

I have to say I almost walked past this spot as I thought it was closed, they had in fact closed…read morethe door because it was so damn cold and to block out the street noise. So if you pass by have a look inside to see if the lights are on and the staff are waiting before you walk past, don't assume it's closed and and it's a sliding door so trying to push or pull it doesn't work ;) Because of the location in the old city like most places you can be sure of a little road noise once in a while but they have music softly playing so it mostly drowns it out. I wouldn't consider the road noise an issue the ambiance manages to make up for it :) I ended up ordering the carbonara pasta as it's one of my favourite dishes and the picture I saw of it made it the only choice I could make. I ended up asking them to leave out the pepper as I felt it would mask the beautiful ingredients that goes into the dish. It wasn't an issue for the chef to leave it out. They did make sure it was just I didn't like pepper and it wasn't an allergic reaction that I wanted to leave it out. Once my dish came out and the staff showed a little bit of their humour by betting me to try just a little pepper and left the pepper shacker on the table with a huge grin. I was eating alone so it was nice to have a bit of interaction with the staff as most restaurants just ignored me and let me eat alone. So thanks for hiring great staff that do make a bit of an effort to ensure the guests are comfortable. I decided to skip dessert as ive already had three treats today but I'm sure their desserts would be amazing. They have a decent range of seafood and seafood pasta options but don't worry they have a good range of meat alternatives. The staff were great and had a little fun and interacted with the customers which was a nice change. I would say drop by here if you are in the area you can be sure to have a wonderful meal. Also if you arrive before 9pm you can beat the rush as most Italians don't reserve a table until 9pm or later...

We were hesitant to try one of the port restaurants because I just generally think of them as not as good or authentic. After a fail of a journey we made our way back to the port and to this AMAZING GEM OF A RESTAURANT called Da Adelina. It is right at the port but upstairs, on top of another restaurant. Check the photos of the entrance and COME TO THIS RESTAURANT! We had the gnocchi, calamari fritti, calamari in red sauce and spaghetti with pesto. Everything was magnificent. Best food in Italy so far. Do not miss this place.

Our antipasti of mixed raw fish (paper thin tuna, swordfish, and cuttlefish, plus tuna tartare with shaved truffle, marinated anchovies, and more) and octopus with potatoes were excellent. My husband's secondo of swordfish rolls was delicious: both the fish and the tomato/caper/olive sauce were great. The only disappointment of the meal were my grouper/chard/coriander-seed ravioli. The pasta was tough (might have been due to the whole wheat flour) and the fish inside dry. Our waiter made sure to ask how we liked everything throughout and politely noted our comments on the ravioli. His wine recommendation, a reasonably priced slightly fruity, but also minerally white Malvasia from nearby Salina, went very nicely with our meal. The view from the terrace was fantastic, with Stromboli puffing away in the distance. Great experience overall!
