Randazzo in off season can be quiet, so when we wanted a late lunch our choice was narrow. We came…read moreacross this place and asked if they could accommodate us, despite the fact they were closing soon. Kindly they agreed, and wow what a surprise. The unassuming exterior did not hint of the quality food inside. We had an antipasto of a selection of local meats, cheeses, chutneys and fried vegetables. All was beautifully balanced and together provided a snapshot of the tastes from the Etna region. We followed with pasta made with pastachio from the region-heavenly: the pasta was beautifully made and perfectly cooked and the pastachio based sauce were delightful. We followed with a plate of various fish, each lightly fried with a fine seasoned flour covering. The freshness and taste of each shone through. All was washed down with a carafe of red wine which the owner told us was his own. Grown and produced in the rich soil of the volcano. It was a remarkable wine made all the more remarkable for its low price. This family owned and run restaurant is a jewel and if the train journey around the base of Mt Etna is not reason enough to visit Randazzo, Gli Antichi Sapori certainly is.

The restaurant prides it's self on fresh local products that are prepared in the oldest traditions of Italian cooking. I ate probably twice as much as I should have but the dishes were just too dreamy to pass by. Calling this place a hidden gem would be an offense... it's a hidden 18 caret diamond!!

We were hesitant to try one of the port restaurants because I just generally think of them as not as good or authentic. After a fail of a journey we made our way back to the port and to this AMAZING GEM OF A RESTAURANT called Da Adelina. It is right at the port but upstairs, on top of another restaurant. Check the photos of the entrance and COME TO THIS RESTAURANT! We had the gnocchi, calamari fritti, calamari in red sauce and spaghetti with pesto. Everything was magnificent. Best food in Italy so far. Do not miss this place.

Our antipasti of mixed raw fish (paper thin tuna, swordfish, and cuttlefish, plus tuna tartare with shaved truffle, marinated anchovies, and more) and octopus with potatoes were excellent. My husband's secondo of swordfish rolls was delicious: both the fish and the tomato/caper/olive sauce were great. The only disappointment of the meal were my grouper/chard/coriander-seed ravioli. The pasta was tough (might have been due to the whole wheat flour) and the fish inside dry. Our waiter made sure to ask how we liked everything throughout and politely noted our comments on the ravioli. His wine recommendation, a reasonably priced slightly fruity, but also minerally white Malvasia from nearby Salina, went very nicely with our meal. The view from the terrace was fantastic, with Stromboli puffing away in the distance. Great experience overall!
