Another Spontini. It's always nice to get in touch with restaurants of this Structure. An…read moreHistorical Structure, existing in Milan since 1953. I remember the times where there was just a Spontini in Spontini Street, close to Corso Buenos Ayres. A place where the "mythical" pizza, with anchovies in the dough was prepared. Just one format, to speed up service, always really quick.
Time has elapsed, and now Spontini got a Franchising. With a great number of Restaurants and also take aways all around Italy, or at least Lombardy. Places where to eat a quite good Pizza, at reasonable prices.
And here there is a Spontini in Lower Bergamo too, together with a Spontini in the Upper Bergamo, already reviewed. A take away one.
Here, in Lower Bergamo, there's instead a Pizzeria which is either Take Away or Table Service.
I was there around the middle ofOctober, because I was there for the wonderful"Bergamo science" festival. And this Spontini, just along one of the main Streets in Bergamo, the well known Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, leading from the Station to, by changing its name in Via Roma, close to the Funicular to the upper side of the City, was perfectly fitting the goal of a cheap and quick Lunch and Dinner( when I was there for the Evening too).
I was there for the first time on the Evening of October 14th 2017. I was there for the Penultimate Day of Bergamo Science. And I framed this place also during the Lunch. Stating to go there for dinner.
And so I did. After giving a peek to the upper exposed menu, I stated for a "Spontini 1953 double Mozzarella" (doppia mozzarella). I like Mozzarella Cheese, and, in general, Cheese on Pizza. So, this was a right choice.
And, at once, I found out that...... If I should have chosen to eat pizza sat..... the price would have raised up to 7,50 euros, instead of the 5,50 of take away price. remember it, if you choose to sit into a served room! But there are some counters where to stand to eat pizza. And it's good, anyway. There are also sockets to charge one's smartphone, and this can be really useful, considered the discharge rate of these devices!
So, my pizza, the most expensive, was 5,50 euros. The other ones are about 4,50 euros.
Now also fillings are available in Spontini. And this is, for somebody, not so wholesome: it's no longer the "dear old Spontini".
But that's right so! Pepper oil, with chili slices inside, is available there, close to the cashes. And this is a value added. Caution: the small container of Pizza is not the best to add olil, which will be bound to "overflow". But that's right the same: with a napkin one can easily clean, if it occurs!
Like I said the same pizza, sat, and with service, costs 7,50 for the "average" format (the same I eat), and 9 for the abundant one. A little bit expensive, I think. But there are also cheaper pizzas.
So, I suggest to eat standing at the counter. The place is nice, shiny, welcoming.
So, welcome to Spontini! It's no longer the "historical" one, but, anyway, it's a pleasure to come it across, and to dwell inside it for awhile!
