Es war eines der großen Bauvorhaben in der oberen Füßgängerzone. Im August 1977 wurden die beiden Anwesen Beck (ehemals Cafe Beck) und Schäfer abgerissen. Die Lücke zwischen Fußgängerzone und dem Schlossplatz wurde mit einem Neubau geschlossen. Nach nur 15-monatiger Bauzeit stand das neue Gebäude. Besonderen Wert war auf ein Altstadt gerechtes äußeres Erscheinungsbild gelegt worden. Die Dachlandschaft nahm die Umgebungs-bebauung auf und auch zur Fußgängerzone hin wurde Wert auf eine filigrane Fassade gelegt. Am 3.Januar 1979 war es dann soweit: Das neue Schloßcafe wurde eingeweiht. Inhaber war Klaus Fritz,der das neue Cafe mit unermüdlichem Fleiß zunächst bis Dezember 1983 alleine führte.Zum 1. One of the staff (the owner?) told us she is vegan herself, but it is not just a vegan cafe. Lots of options for vegetarians and meat eaters, too. I decided this sounded amazing and opted for this, and it was a delightful unexpected extra to my caffeine hit. We had a roll with smoked tofu and salad each, and we also had the option of a cashew nut salad but we felt satisfied with all we had ordered.
