There isn't really much on offer for food however, with some run-of-the-mill coffee shops and a juice bar. Something I liked about Athlone Town Centre was how spacious and quiet it was - not sure if it's always like this but every time I've been here it's been really easy to get around shops comfortably. Other shopping centres can often be so busy that you end up just giving up! The Sheraton Hotel is accessible by lift from within the shopping centre itself, and if you stay there you get free parking in the hotel/centre car park (Normally 8 euro per day).

Well first of all here's my first review of this place. I've already done reviews on yelp only to…read morefind they've disappeared along with photos. So if this one disappears I won't be doing another one. Right here it is. If one considers the tourist office as the centre of Mullingar then this place is about an 8 to 10 minute walk. Mullingar is a charming Irish town with a lot of character and darn good foodie places. Just beside the tourist office stands a statue of Joe Dolan a famous Irish singer alas now dead. I'm pleased to say I saw him live and wow what an unusual voice. He had a number three hit in the UK in the 1969 when the charts had Elvis In the Ghetto (originally titled the Vicious Circle) David Bowie Space Oddity, Credence Clearwater Revival Bad Moon Rising with the amazing voice of John Fogerty who brought bluesy swamp rock to the hippie masses; Fogerty also holds the distinct honour of being one of the few musicians to be sued for sounding too much like himself. I digress again. This centre is a tad unusual as it has local businesses in it including a local barbers, a florist, a jewellers, a fruit & veg shop and a local butchers. Most shopping centres have the usual multi national and national names. This place has Boots, Holland & Barrett, a CarPhone warehouse and also has Dunnes Stores selling food & drink in one store and clothing and shoes in another store. The local butchers Tormeys has an on site Himalayan salt dry cure beef ager so I bought a few sirloins. I didn't need a coffee so avoided the Esquires coffee place. Worth a visit if you are close by.

Still,…read moreif you are looking for a book in Ballinasloe, it's one of the last places with any kind of selection. Because I was on a schedule, I couldn't linger or turn around and return the ring, but if I'd had the time, I absolutely would have. The older woman serving me was unreasonably rude--and (potentially racist?) Although she eventually seemed to realize and got back on track, I was stunned, especially since no one else I met in Ireland behaved this way. It felt like such a poor representation of the country. In the end, I still bought the ring (a decision I regret now) but I've since decided to give it away so I don't have it sitting around, reminding me of that awful experience in Galway.

Thomas Dillon is the original maker, so I figured I'd buy from the best. They have such high quality jewelry and beautiful claddagh rings. Women's are 50 euros, men 60, for just the silver. Maybe a little pricier than other spots, but they have a lifetime guarantee and an original stamp on the inside. They have other jewelry as well and a section in the back full of historical articles and the worlds smallest claddagh ring, which is super funny! I love my new ring and the woman helping us was so knowledgeable and kind! I'd highly recommend Thomas Dillin.

I had never seen this shirt anywhere in any of the cities I had visited. I never even saw this shirt at the Guinness storehouse! The lady requested for the other store to hold that size for us. We thought that was so nice! Fallers also has good sale prices. The store sells everything from clothes (adults and children), to cups, to umbrellas, to toys, etc. A good go to place for gifts. I forgot to mention that Fallers has a small fitting area so you can try on the clothes before buying!

Yelp 100 Challenge 2019 - #64/100…read more The first store we went to was Kath Kitson's, the feminine, flowery stuff is not really my style. I did find some breakaway lanyards that I can definitely use for my work ID. Then we checked out Kipling. It is pricier than the stuff that I can get Stateside but the designs here are a lot more exciting. Spent most of our time in Super Dry and found some good deals. I ambled around this seriously over-priced place for about half an hour. When the pound to euro…read moreratio was near one forty it was still overpriced, and now its only ten per cent then it has almost zero attraction for me. I walked by an on - street doughnut & coffee cart and their idea of a deal for a coffee and doughnut was €5. I'm pleased to say that my money stayed in my pocket. I also priced a sweet/savoury crepe stall but again their cheapest sweet crepe offering was about €5 with savoury more expensive. No chance; I have no intention of handing over five euro for fifteen cents worth of pancake batter and yes I know some sugar and stuff will be added but even with that, the mark-up is eye watering and I simply refuse to be ripped off. Still I was determined to see if someone could entice me to spend money and I came across a Thai street food place and while it was near noon and devoid of customers the smell of cooking oil invaded the area. So that was enough to persuade me to keep walking. The place is very well kept and their little flower displays and some of their art and sculpture are pretty indeed. I departed with the same amount of money as I arrived with. My wife of course well that's a whole other story.
