Such a disappointment! Eating ice cream is a real splurge for me. Friday was the day I really needed a treat. We went through the drive through. Hubby got double chocolate and I got chocolate almond, double scoops, in a cup as we were hearing back home (an hour drive). We both started eating our ice cream and I asked my husband if his tasted funny. Yes! He analyzed this and OUR ICE CREAM HAD BEEN THAWED And REFROZEN! It was horrible! Still on our way, I had to set my ice cream aside as it was leaving a waxy feel on my palette and the grainy texture was unbearable. No more, Ideal. Driving through Richfield and we were looking for a place to dine, but really did not want the regular fast food. We were directed to The Ideal Dairy. Not knowing what to expect, we decided to just go for it. Upon entering the building, I could see the appeal of this place increasing the longer I was there. From the ice cream freezers to the bread shelf, among other things. This is how I feel eating in a fast food diner ought to feel like. The lady that helped us was awesome. Energetic and seemingly glad to help us with the menu. I ordered the Turkey pesto sandwich. Such a simple sandwich but, boy oh boy, it had so much flavor. I ate it in record time, it seemed. I could have eaten three of those sandwiches. Paired with a broccoli soup, and I was surely satisfied with our stop here. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone passing through. read more

I was a little disappointed they didn't have any 'raw' milk but then again how many places do? It was just a small hope for a diner located in a dairy town but the owner said processing got too expensive. Barring that, the food was still great. Had the breakfast bowl with gravy and expected to feel heavy for the next few hours but it was surprisingly light. The meal was pleasantly filling without being coma inducing. The muffin was fluffy; sausage wasn't overly seasoned. Even had enough room leftover for their strawberry shake. Creamy, milky - loved it. The rest of the family had the breakfast burrito and a breakfast bagel. I tried all of them and everything tasted great. The biggest deal for me was that nothing tasted salty like most restaurants seem to be doing nowadays. The bagel was soft and chewy. The breakfast burrito surprisingly had no egg but still good with their aioli. I wouldn't be surprised if the ingredients were fresh and everything was made from scratch. Checked this place out during our trip going to Colorado. The place is very clean and spacious. The wife had the Italian "panini and a chocolate shake. I had a "piggy panini " and a vanilla shake. The food was tasty and the people were kind. I encourage anyone passing through to give this place a try. They stop making the gravy for the biscuits at 11am, so be aware if you're from out of town. The prices were good for what they offer. They also had a nice variety to their selection. It was very much like going over to a friend's house and eating a meal. Home cooked feeling. We ALMOST passed this place by and then were lured in by their drive-thru (as we were on a roadtrip and looking to avoid stops.) I'm SO glad we paused for Ideal Dairy!!! Firstly, before our food came out the kind staff gave us a dog-biscuit for our pup! She was thrilled. We humans got two breakfast sandwiches and the bagels were ultra soft and tasty, not hard or grainy like so many other places. The egg, cheese and ham were all also good. We got coffees as well which are massive, we should have ordered smalls! When I asked for cream I was expecting the little half-and-half cups you get everywhere. Nope, they gave us a cup of REAL CREAM. Thick and soft and sweet and cold and oh-so-delicious. I could have drank the entire thing by itself! Made me regret that it was too early for shakes. This place is a hidden gem in a small town. Ice cream and ice cream products are top notch. You can tell they have been in the dairy business a long time. They use fresh fruit in there shakes. They serving sizes are perfect. Sandwiches are fresh made to order. The sourdough bread is the soft kind. Has good flavor. Prices are good I have paid twice the price for way worse food. Before we left town we were told to go here by a friend and we were glad we did. We were all very hungry so it may not have mattered, but it was very good. I got the panini and although messy it was great. I think the best part of it was the bun. The ice cream gets an A, the food, an F. We got corn dogs, teriyaki chicken, and ice cream. The corn dog was barely warm, and the corn crust was soggy. The hot dog was also cool, kind of soggy as well. The teriyaki chicken bowl featured un-seasoned chicken (tasted boiled), stale rice that tasted old, and a sort of bitter, runny teriyaki sauce. I only ate a few bites because I was starved. My children ignored their corn dogs. The chocolate shake was very thick - you needed a spoon, but it tasted good. A smooth mouth feel, and it tasted like a Wendy's frosty but better. I was very disappointed in the food and have had better in a school cafeteria. read more

What could possibly knock a star off? This is the best ice cream and sandwiches I have a in a good long time.

The employees that worked here were very nice but the ice cream appeared to have melted and re-frozen and tasted freezer-burned. I tasted vanilla and another flavor and they were the same. One of the girls explained to me that this happens when they smooth the melted top of the ice cream down every night to cover it and it re-freezes hard overnight and then slightly melts the next day. The ice cream in the cartons were sort of pulled away from the top of the cartons like it was not staying frozen enough in the ice cream freezer. Could be time for the owner to check the temp on the freezer and possibly do some maintenance... read more

It's a cute place, that's why my mom sister and I decided to try it. The girl that took our order was obviously new. She didn't know how to use the register and when my sister tried to order a hot dog and a mint chocolate shake the poor girl thought she wanted a hot dog+mint+chocolate in a shake. She looked all confused and went and asked someone for help. I'm thinking she must have been nervous but it was pretty hilarious. After that fiasco we got our food. I ordered a mint+oreo shake and a corn dog. My shake was really good. The corn dog was obviously the frozen ones you warm up in the microwave so it was a little disappointing. My mom ordered their special, the "fresh strawberry shake" they claimed that it was made with real fresh strawberries, she expected there to be some strawberry chunks in the shake but there weren't any. She also said it wasn't as flavorful as she had hoped it would be. She didn't even finish it. She also ordered a corn dog, when they brought it out she took a bite and it was cold. So we tell them and they take it in the back and microwave it again. Basically she was VERY disappointed with her meal. My sister had basically the same experience as I did. She wasn't as impressed with her mint chocolate shake as I was with my mint oreo shake. Overall it wasn't totally horrible but we probably won't be going back there when we are back in Richfield. read more

Every time I go down to visit my grandparents, this is a place I HAVE to stop at! It's been around forever and has only gotten better with age! :)! The staff is amazingly kind, and helpful. You get a great value for the price. And it is a super cute place! Their punch bags are a kid favorite. Their ice cream no matter the flavor is always divine, although if they have german chocolate cake ice cream, you know that's what I'm going to be getting. Their nachos are super good especially if you ask them to add red onion. And their soups and sandwiches are so stinking good. Definitely a place everyone should try if going through Richfield, or is driving by it! read more
