If there's one thing I love, no matter the season, it's red toe nails. Always classic! The…read moreproblem is, when I paint my nails myself, I look like a three-year old just painted fake blood all over my feet. This is best left to the professionals. I had never gotten a beauty service done in Zurich, which is partly to blame on the cost of things, but mostly to blame on my hesitancy speaking German in new situations. But, I was going to Italy and dag-nabbit, my nails needed to look pretty. I picked Salon de Beauté based on a random internet review and the straightforward website - have to start somewhere, right? I made an appointment (auf Deutsch) through the contact form on the website and got an appointment for a pedicure and eyebrow cleanup for a few days in the future. My appointment was with Lucia, the owner of the salon. She is Czech but has lived in Zurich for a long time. She speaks a little bit of English, and we got along fine in a mix of German and English. The set-up for the pedicure was a bit different than what I am used to. In the US, I usually get a pedicure while sitting in a chair, perhaps in a row with many others. Here, because Lucia is the main (and only?) practitioner and because she does a number of other services, pedicures are performed at the end of a bed (like you might lie on when getting an eyebrow wax). I have to say that this was the most thorough pedicure I've ever received - my feet were like a baby's bottom afterwards and the red polish I picked lasted a long time without chipping. The eyebrow plucking was also very well-done. She also does facials, other waxing, manicures, and massages. Overall, highly recommended for her service and the prices were quite acceptable.

And in an act of selflessness and only for you Qyper out there, I went to get two treatments here. So that I cannot only write about the shop and the design, but about price and services. The shop itself is located close to the Börse/Selnau and is a bit unremarkable from the outside. That they are doing reconstructing work on the building does not help. I do agree with Sam55 that the ladies are really nice. This is however not worth a point. Because in this business it's not so much about how nice the people are, but how well the service is they "deliver". It's about value for money. And this is not perfect here. A (quick) Pedicure with polish for 80 CHF. Yes, price-wise ok, but the result was not much better than when I do it myself. The facial treatment, which was planned for 90 minutes, only lasted 50 minutes (ok I was late too), but still ... I had to pay the full price. And suddenly 150 CHF was quite a lot of money. Conclusion: I won't come again. There are too many small beauty shop in Zurich, waiting for my money.

Ity is always very attentive and patient in listening to exactly what I want, and she is diligent in taking her time to get me there. I rarely do threading because I've always found it so much more painful than waxing, but with Ity, there was no pain at all...I found her threading to be even more painless than waxing. I would highly recommend Ity for threading, and each month I looking forward to my appointment with her. Moreover, Ity is very friendly, and I always have a great time chatting with her. Since she works out of her home, her schedule is pretty flexible. She's quick to respond via SMS, phone, or e-mail for setting up appointments. She does the threading at her dining table, so it's not a salon-type setting, but I never have any problems with it. Ity makes sure that you feel comfortable and at ease in her chair, which I always do. I've had my brows done (both threading and waxing) at all sorts of different places in both San Francisco, CA and Houston, TX (my previous 2 homes), and without a doubt, I'd confidently state that I've had the best experience out of all of them with Ity.

Ity is very friendly and professional. She knew exactly what to do to clean my eyebrows up. She also made suggestions on how to care for them better going forward. The whole process was quick and easy. I am thrilled with how my brows and upper lip (i´ll no more traumatize this area with wax) look and will be going back many many times! Overall I am very happy with my first threading experience and I couldn't recommend Ity enough :) :) :)
