Our floor takes names from characters and places within the short story "Le Danse de Salomé," as noted by beautiful placards and artwork throughout the room. The window opens out onto a quaint courtyard, and the sill is just large enough for you to sit and admire the scenery, smelling the fresh ocean air. Totally picturesque. The front desk is multilingual and incredibly kind, directing people through to the parking garage despite ongoing construction in the neighborhood. They also opened a bottle of wine we brought having forgotten a bottle opener ourselves. Parking is accessible via a car elevator into a private lot. Location is prime, the very centre of Rouen. And yet, the world is quiet beyond the front gate, perfect for those searching for a good night's rest. A bit of paradise. Ah, and they do offer complimentary breakfast, just let them know if you'd like it when checking in.

And the style of the room leaned too much into the castle motif with the rock tile and dull color. The history of the building offers some explanation, but the given that it was remodeled in 2010 makes me wonder why it still felt so old. The excellent staff, great location, and incredible history of the hotel made for an enjoyable stay. But there is definitely room for improvement.

This is a beautiful, well located hotel that offers impeccable service and attention to detail. We enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet each morning of our stay. With both sweet and savory options we were spoilt for choice. There was a full bar with a piano player every night but Sunday. It was a fun place to gather after a day of touring. Located in the heart of the old city, we were able to walk everywhere. If we return to Rouen, the Hotel de Bourgtheroulde would be our first choice for accommodations.
